hi
i'm old, and infirm, and not at all good at PC games. But I bought PE5 for my kids, and am trying to set it up (have never played any previous versions - closest being FIFA 2001). It seems to me that "player 1" defaults to keyboard always, and you can't select gamepad as player 1. This would be fine, except that training (esp situation training) only seems to allow you to use player 1, and I really need to get the hang of the game. I would like to train using the game pad, as using a keyboard to control this game seems to be impossible for all intents - for my fat, decrepit fingers, anyway.

I presume i am doing something wrong - something obvious, and cloth-headedly stupid. But I'm too set in my ways to conceive what it might be. would any one of you smart, computer literate youngsters be able to help an old buzzard out?

Two ways to do this:

The first is to go into Options from the in-game menu, then to Button Configuration and set the first player to be a controller and not the keyboard. Once you're in there press OK once or twice to go through the various menus where you can customise which buttons relate to which actions and then when you are on your way out, save the option file (should be an in-menu option if it doesn't do it automatically).

Alternatively, before running the game, go into the folder you installed PES5 in and double click the file named Settings. Alternatively, you'll find this as an option in the Start Menu in the Pro Evolution Soccer 5 folder.

Once there, click on the Player 1 tab and you'll get a drop-down list of available controllers. Select the appropriate controller and then click OK at the bottom. Now if you run the game, it should have remembered all of this....
