Shot Aiming...

I think you made a mistake in your second explanation, saying that going right to left you'd have to shoot northwest or northeast when you probably mean northwest or southwest.
No I said running ACROSS the pitch... I am still aiming toward the goal to the right of the screen. If you pressed southwest the players shot would be weak as he would try changing direction. So I'll stick with what I said.

Well either way I practice it, my shots still are horribly inaccurate. Forget I even said anything.

Well...the easiest way to do it is as Hitman said...south east, north east if you're running from left to right to TRY to aim the shot.
In my opinion, what matters the most is the way you are facing the goal;if a right foot player is facing the goal from the right side of the field, the chances of scoring if he shoots are not as high as if he was in the left side of the field; that's because of the curling you set on the ball, a right foot usually shoots with the inner part of the foot which makes the ball curve to the left :p unless he shoots with the outter part of the foot, which makes the oposite, making it a bigger chance to score. Either way, I'm not sure if you can control the inner part, outter part shooting style in PES5.
I like long shots, so basically what I try to do is something like this: (running from left to right) Adriano is facing the goal far away; as he is a leftie I try to get the ball on his left facing the goal in a 45º angle :p press :square: and then keep pressing up and right at same time, otherwise it's most likely for the ball to go far far to the left, so this way I try to keep it between posts ;P
Probably most of the users now this and it's no big deal, but may help you.
But obviously you can't have 100% control of your shots, that's why not everytime you shoot, an olympic goal comes out; so try focusing on facing the goal in different positions, training mode with "Play again retry" may help you a lot :p
And avoid at all cost going face to the goal if you are somehow far.
Good luck!

Go into training mode to try this. WE9's is kickass now with the ability to basically replay the same couple of seconds over and over. Just take a shot, then replay it as many times as you like to see what different things do!

Thats what Im trying to figure out. How to NOT miss by a mile everytime I shoot... and miss in the same spot over and over again. Maybe it'll help.

Thanks for the clarification fellas, I got it, it's DIAGRAM 2, LOL!!! I have really noticed that player positions and balance plays a big part as well. I feel I am getting better at shot aiming, but w/ this info, hopefully, I will improve even more. Thanks again.

So troublesome...just switch the view to 'wide' and aim with your D-Pad instead...higher accuracy, unless you like using other views.
