I wrote a small piece last week saying that I had lost patience with Pro Evo and that I was considering moving across to FIFA. When I had the game, Pro Evo gave me a steep learning curve which I played and played until I understood it. At first it was hard to get to grips with, but like so many after a while I finally had my 'Eureka' moment and got it. The game seemed superb. I played an entire Master League season in about three days and basically put my little self employed business on hold because I was gripped by PES once again. Graphically I thought the game was stunning, the gameplay was superb, tactics etc etc seemed a breath of fresh air and everything was going great.
But over the weeks I started to get irritated, and even further down the line bored. The players seemed unresponsive all of a sudden, my enjoyment started to vanish, and the passing system seemed to get more and more frustrating. It was at this point, after two and half completed seasons of Master League that I rented FIFA and started giving that a go. FIFA has many things going for it, its fluidity is exceptional the polish and all that shit. Although FIFA gave me initial enjoyment and had to totally change the way I played football after a week or two it just felt too dull. I was on World Class mode, and playing 15 MINUTES A HALF, just to get that one or two opportunities to win 1-0 or 2-1. BUT the big problem with FIFA in my eyes is that it just feels stupid on times. I was just constantly chasing and holding x, the CPU build up play was non-existent and just involved ploughing down the middle and I became bored.
So this got me thinking...why or how had I lost all my enjoyment for PES when I loved it at first? If many or all of you have come across this then I apologise now and I'm a noob, but for those who haven't give it a go. Like I say I may be looking like a complete noob because I'm the last person in the world to discover stuff like this and all of you have probably done it already or written about it...but...
I was looking through the forums, the Winning Eleven ones I think, and I came across a few people who had exactly the same problem. Option files were mentioned, and game updates etc, and it started making sense. I spent all day yesterday testing the different combinations and I found an incredible difference in gameplay from the initial Pro Evo 'out of the box' game, and all the updates I had applied and option files I had put on. Quite simply the 'out of the box' game with no added shit plays like a fucking dream. I played several games as it came just off the disc, several games with the first update 1.01 I think, and severla with the downloaded content that gives you all the kits and team names and stuff.
THE DIFFERENCE IS REMARKABLE. Now this may be just me, and tell me if I'm talking shite, but to start the game from scratch again with no kit shit and updates, the game feels so responsive, much more fluid (almost FIFA like), passing is crisper, I can pass into tight situations, my players don't feel heavy and like mongs, there seems to be more ball swerve when passing and shooting, and the striking seems to be lower and more realistic. This one is harder to expalin, but there seems to be more angles in terms of how I finish off moves, and I can beat the odd person now and again which I could never do with all the updates and data packs.
I am now absolutely loving PES again, my players are doing what I tell them, the CPU build up play is fantastic, literally all the goals the CPU have scored have been through good football, I don't feel I've been cheated once yet and the computer has stopped spamming that UBER through ball, and this is in Top Player. Possession is now more equal, last night I had a game against Cluj in Europa league and they beat me 2-0, absolutely fair and square (I'm Liverpool, on Top Player, 15 mins a game). It was an absolute joy, and what's more for the first time in what seems to be like forever possession was 50-50! With the old data packs and stuff it wasn't unheard of for me to have 70% of the possession against Arsenal. I'm back hooked again. When I win I deserve it, when the CPU win I just don't feel like the game has cheated, it has literally been two or three wonderful moves from the CPU which has cut me apart - but which I could have done something about - which makes all the difference.
In tight situations I've got that ability back to shuffle in close control and play delicate through balls. There is the ODD EXCEPTION about cursor change, but even this now feels almost fixed!!
SO....to anyone out there, the question is have you tried going back to the original PES, version 1.00, and playing it again?
Do you feel any difference, for me it's like two completely different games, PES version 1.00 and PES 1.02 or whatever it is?
What has made such a difference in gameplay that the first version, to me, feels lighter more responsive, fluid and electric whilst the updated data stuff make my players seem like heavy pieces of shit who take an eternity to pass the ball, and who cannot wriggle out of tight spaces because they turn like the QE2?
AM I JUST TALKING SHIT????
Anyways have a ponder and get back to me, the only problem I've got now is that I spent all day yesterday making all the kit alterations myself and getting the team names right and some transfers (still under version 1.00 of the game) and will be 50-50 as to whether to install KONAMI patch on release, probably fuck up the game even more I'm thinking.
Get back with your thoughts...
