I have come to believe that I am a bit of an expert at getting through training in ML mode at a fare rate of knots, so I have decided to share my eternal wisdom with you lesser folk.
Note, I will edit this post to eventually cover all aspects of training, so be patient.
To start with, it is always best to start from the top of the list when selecting players for training, this way you won't forget who you have already trained and save time.
-Left/Right Side Corner Kick-
Firstly, pick the player from the 3 that has the best passing speed.
When taking the corner kick, tap the control pad 2 or 3 times away from the goal line, depending on how close the defender is. This is so he will have less chance of intercepting the ball.
Press the circle button until the meter is full then at this very moment press down on your control pad. This will make you hit a fast ball along the ground.
Your 2nd player will run onto the ball.
When he receives the ball, immediately back heel it to the player behind.
This player will be left totally free in front of the goal.
Shoot into the far corner where 9 times out of 10 it will go in.
Very rarely will you miss or the keeper will make a save. Even the shitest goalies can score doing it this way.
-Short Pass-
To start with, pass the ball to the player directly across from you. This will make the 2 defenders close in a little leaving the wider players free.
When you have created some space from the defenders you will be able to take an extra touch on the ball and pick out your next pass more accurately. Remember, it's better to take the 0.5 second gap of an extra touch than it is to be intercepted and start all over.
Don't be afraid to pass the ball to the player directly opposite, very rarely will your pass be intercepted this way
Do this until you have completed all the passes needed
-Attack-
Pick the 2 best dribblers first, and your less fortunate player last.
When the first player receives the ball, Hold the R1 button and press and hold down and right on your control pad.
Do 3-4 runs with the ball (depending on how fast your player dribbles) and then start to straighten up down the wing, to run directly at the defender.
Slow down until you are close to the defender to draw him to you.
Your 2nd player will now be positioned directly inline with the goal.
Pass to him, making sure he is still onside.
Walk towards the keeper who will approach you.
When he is close enough, side step him to your left using the R2 button to avoid going back into the path of the defender.
Shoot. GOAL!
-Defence-
As soon is the training session starts hold down and right on your control pad to head diagonally.
It's a 50/50 chance that the first pass will be passed to the player on the right of the screen.
If this is the case, you should be able to intercept the pass immediately.
My best time in doing this is 59.12 seconds left on the clock.
If, however, the pass is not intercepted or he passes to the opposite side, then get your player to man mark the opposing player at the bottom of the screen.
Do not rush around the screen in a blind panic, staying composed is your best chance.
When he is passed to, you should be able to intercept it this way.
-Shoot-
When positoning the ball, move it back about a yard or so, so it is roughly at the edge of the darker green grass square.
When you make the pass just walk onto the ball. This will give you a closer, more controlled touch when receiving the ball back again.
Walk up to the keeper and sidestep him using the R2 button.
When doing this, it's up to you to decide which way you go, taking into account where the keeper is.
When you have created enough of an angle or the keeper has commited himself, shoot.
-Dribbling-
No real tips I can give for this, except once you know the course you should be able to do it without any problems.
-Long Pass-
If the player is righ-footed, then tap the control pad right twice, if he is left-footed, hit the pad left twice.
This is to allow for curve when hitting the ball.
If you are reasonably close to the target you're best bet is just to tap the circle button once as quickly as you can.
If you are further away, tap the circle twice.
Some players do not need to be moved left or right when taking this kick, players that take a direct run up, for instance van Persie.
Other players come at the ball from a tighter angle. In this case, you will need to move left/right around 4-5 times.
Other than these tips, it really is down to practice to get the power of the pass correct for each player, but these tips are usually standard.
-Free Kick-
If the player is right-footed, then tap the control pad right twice, if he is left-footed, hit the pad left twice.
If the target is high, then hit the ball approx 1/3 of the limit on the meter.
Do not hold any other buttons that will change the path of the ball (ie, holding down will hit the ball slower, but higher).
If the target is along the ground, tap the shoot button once as quickly as possible.
Directly after you have press the shoot button, press left on your control pad, this will make the ball roll slightly slower.
Because the target is on the ground, if you hit it too hard the ball may bounce over the red and up into the yellow.
There is of course no guarantee that this will work each time for every player, but I found it works best and is more consistent.
