What happens when you select Install ?

Hey guys, I was navigating around the menu and went through System Settings, and down the bottom where there is Install and Download, I selected Install and it went about installing game data which took around 5mins, what has this done ? I only thought that when a Download was available you could actually select Install ?

You installed the game on your hard drive. It's suppose to help with the loading times and stuff. It has nothing to do with downloadable content.

It does help with loading times. Reading from the HDD is MUCH faster than reading from the disk.

It also means it doesn;t have to access the disk as often, so your drive will last longer, and less risk of the game disk scratching in the drive.

Thanks for the reply back guys :) Makes sense now :)
I can't seem to find it though under GAMES, the only PES2010 game listed is showing it as the actual Disc itself, I did find one under Game Data as being about 3GB in size, I just deleted it, I dont mind running it off the disc...

On ps3 you canot save replays without installing the game...at least on my console.

Doh!!!!

Thats probably all of your saved games etc gone now mate! Your console (PS3 or Xbox 360 I assume) still uses the drive to store game data.

After all, thats why it has a hard drive, why delete it?????

I installed it hoping I could run it with out the need for the disk ( seeing I rarely play any other games).

Same us you still need the sisk just installs like 2 gig on the hd!

still seems to take as long to load tho?????

Definitely loads quicker on my xbox when installed, and each game loads quicker also.

But yes, you still need the disk to validate the game.

Hi mate :) Thanks for the reply, nahh I made sure that it wasn't actually my match data, that was still there luckily :) It was just some big 3GB file that was there which I deleted, game still runs off the disc as it did originally, and I can save replays, so it must be running fine :)

Hehehe, yeah I made sure that the game data stayed :)
Hmmmm I have no idea what it could have been, it may have been the Install I did ? It was about 3Gb, so I reckon that's what it was....

yeah its the install from the 2010 disk. you can do anything with it only delete it. guess it just saves 3gig being loaded off the disk.

I dont this intall thing on ps3 when the game came out never new what it done but this basicly clears it up.
