What I'd like to see in PES 2012

Ok, so I'm new to this forum but not to PES. I've been playing since the first instalment on the Playstation 2, to the Xbox 360 versions, and own them all. I also managed to sample the earlier ISS games on the PSone and even the Super Nintendo (SNES).

There's a couple of things I'd like to see implemented, and others fixed, in PES 2012. I can't speak for the rest of the PES community, so these are just my personal, relatively unbiased views which I've put quite a lot of thought into. Any control references will be for the Xbox 360 version, as that's the one I have. Possible changes are as follows:

>The penalty system. It has already been mentioned on CVG.com that the camera angle will be changed back, but i'd like to see a power bar added. The problem with the last two games was that the penalties were over-complicated and confusing, if not too difficult to master - a back-to-basics approach would cure this, with the player simply choosing the direction. An addition of choosing the right power, and possibly a finesse shot option - so as not to over-simplify things - would also be welcome.

>Simple little errors, some of which didn't exist in the previous game (such as not being able to choose which preferred side a wide players plays on when you use the search feature in the Master League; and the automatic substitution of a lightly injured player from your starting 11 in the ML, so you have to manually change it back each time they return from injury), to be ironed out.

>Kick-off and goalkeeper (with the ball in his hands) control restored to the player. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. There was nothing wrong with the old way, with a forced timer for online games. I've lost count of how many times my team has kicked off and instantly lost possession because I've pressed the A button in the meantime, or trying to drop the ball at the keeper's feet only for him to do that hand gesture thing and kick it long anyway.

>The PES 2010 custom replay angles to be restored. The angles in 2011 were very poor, with it being impossible to get a clear view of the action most of the time (option 1 was too low, option 2 was too close, whereas option 4 - the "freecam" or "ghostcam" as it's usually called - was wholly unnecessary). Also, the option to view the custom angle replays should be mapped to a button during the standard replay (e.g. press the X button to see it) so players no longer have to press the start button three times if they want to skip the celebration and ensuing replays. One standard replay should suffice.

>"Link Feints", activated with the Left Bumper and a flick of the right stick on the Xbox 360, should be taken out altogether. They are a pointless and clumsy addition, in my opinion, which fly in the face of the notion of more control being offered by PES 2011, by allowing players to utilize preset skill combinations, without actually possessing any skill themselves.

>The difficulty level needs to be raised - not simply by adding another "star", as seen in the previous games, but by making the transition from one difficulty to the next a little steeper overall. "Top Player" is far too easy at the moment.

>The quick substitution menu returned - I know the whole formation screen has been revamped, but a simple list menu (as a separate option in the pause menu) like before would mean substitutions could be made much quicker, without the need for the drag-and-drop mechanic.

>Swap deals in the ML, i.e. player-plus-cash deals, being reintroduced.

>Constant updates after every game, e.g. "Player stats increased by one point" and "Sponsorship bonus requirement met" to be removed, or at least contained to the Topics section. The logo for the Topics section could contain a number, to alert the player to the number of new messages which have yet to be read.

[Low Priority Requests]

>The old training mini-games to return. They were fun!

>As were the penguin costumes, ostriches and dinosaurs from PES 6.

>The various "add-ons" purchased with the in-game points, such as the option to start the ML with more funds, to be removed. Instead, starting funds should be set to default if the player chooses the fictional player line-up, or pre-determined depending on team ranking if they choose the real line-up.

>The "add-on" option of choosing a real player in Become a Legend should be a choice to begin with, not an unlockable option.

>More varied achievements would be welcome, as opposed to the ones which reoccur in every iteration of the series. Possible examples include achievements for getting particular high scores in training games (mentioned above).

>Commentary is, as ever, quite poor (though it thankfully is a far cry from the days of the first PES). Improvements could be made to make it feel as dynamic and free-flowing as the FIFA series.

[The Online Modes]

>There seem to be far too many lobbies, with very few players in them. Fewer lobbies would be sufficient, and a revamped menu system would make them more accessible.

>It was very difficult to get a foothold in the online ML, due to the matchmaking service constantly pairing me against teams which boasted all-star lineups when I had little more than the fictional ML players at my disposal. I did like the fluctuating player value system though.

>Legends mode was by far the most enjoyable mode. I would like to see this points-scoring system added to Become a Legend, or at least an option to choose to activate it if some people don't want it.

>Lag was also an issue in some games, but this could have been due to the distance between myself and other players. I do know that previous PES titles suffered from atrocious lag issues, with many games in PES 2008 being rendered unplayable for me.

So that's all I have to say, for the moment. Having bought the FIFA titles from '08 to '10 alongside PES (due to the spate of overwhelmingly positive reviews they were getting), I still believe that PES is the better game to play. The player control in FIFA still feels too ponderous and sluggish, and the shooting feels tame. Player likenesses are inferior too, though player animations are excellent. The fact remains that no amount of licenced teams or eye candy can make up for raw gameplay. With minor improvements, I believe PES can become top dog again in the eyes of the critics.

It always was for me anyway.

I think KONAMI is going on the right direction for PES 2012 , they have smart moves such as second player control , or more active AI that can move with dummy runs , create more space for attackers and make alot of chances for us to score , also new defenders system , i think it will be promising .

Otherwise I don`t agree with KONAMI about what happened last year in PES 2011
because after the demo was great , and i played it , then i got shocked from the final version which i bought and simply it`s unplayable , i can`t understand , a company with a huge workers and they are making a football game for many years , they make a game like that in 2011 , looks like they let basketball players to test it before they sell it to us .

Konami should understand that , no graphics or some new animations or some new videos can let us have a good game .

But the magic words to make a wonderful PES as i always say and say and say for years and nobody listen to me ;

1 - THE GAMEPLAY : What most attarct us to any game in the world is the GAMEPLAY , should be solid , smart AI , defenders knows what to do and in the right time , the gameplay should be more fluid , controlling the ball , giving more space to players so they can dribble , joggle , play with both feet .

Also , the point is not only attacking all the time , but the computer attcks in smart way and changing of plan in the whole game , such as Barca last year in PES 2011 , always attack from the left wing all the time with 2 players or 3 most , that is not right .

another issue also here , in PES gameplay ( also in FIFA ) the defenders play the ball from the back to the atatckers directly , the AI dosen`t have an option to play from defenders to midfield players then attackers , that also is not right .

as we are a good players and many of us play or watch real football , we like the gameplay to be more attractive , when we choose professional mode as example , we want to see the AI attack and attack and attack , that made us love PES in old days like PES 6 , we all like that , we love to have more space while playing the computer , the pace of the game will be enjoyable more if the AI is very smart and knows how to attack all the time , that is why we choose professional mode or higher so the gameplay can be more playable and fantastic .

2 - CONTROLLING THE BALL : the second magic word for PES that should focus on is controlling the ball , since PES 08 till PES 2011 we are suffering from controlling the ball , once i have the ball , i feel furstrated and i want to get rid of it quickely , that is not a football game should be , as a fotty players , we always like to play with both feet , recieve the ball and have it on the other foot then take one or 2 defenders ( such as Messi and C Ronaldo ) , but in past PES games , i don`t feel that , also the defender always comes from no where , and takes the ball , seems like the defender says : you don`t have the rights to dribble or joggle the ball , lol

do you want to know why many of PES players are playing FIFA more in recent years ? the answer is because the gameplay is fluid . ( in my opinion ) even i know that PES gameplay is more attarctive . and the second reason is ( 360 system ) dribbling and freedom to move the player and turn him at any direction i want anytime and ... anywhere , ( with the ball )
people don`t care while playing fifa about licenses because players look all the same there and they look smaller than PES players on the game camera , they also don`t care about graphics most , but they care about ( freedom of moving the player with the ball to anywhere and passing one or 2 defenders easiley )

now you know KONAMI how to get us all back to play PES again like old days ?

so these 2 major issues PES , GAMEPLAY AND CONTROLIING THE BALL , in my opinion , if PES focus on these 2 issues , no other footy game in the market can face PES , can you do that KONAMI ? i dought that but let`s hope we can find that in PES 2012 and i was wrong .

Just had a look at a new Gamescom video on CVG:

http://www.computerandvideogames.co...iler-shows-intelligent-ai-football-life-more/

Here's a couple of points I'd like to make:

>Football Life has potential, but would need plenty of variety in responses, statements, etc. There was nothing more boring than reading exactly the same instructions in every pre-match dressing room scene in the Be a Legend mode in PES2011. Maybe the introduction of some Mass Effect-style dialog options could make things interesting? Nothing too black-and-white, though.

>The reintroduction of training games is nice, that was one of the ideas I mentioned in the first post.

>Hopefully the option to at least trade with the South American teams will be available in the Master League this time. Obviously including them with the other European teams wouldn't quite work, seeing as they'd be segregated by the differing cup competitions.

>Less impressive is the off-the-ball movement, which I believe EA had a stab at with a previous FIFA title. It was a disaster, and was promptly canned.

Nailing down the core mechanics, reintroducing some of the things that worked in previous games, and ironing out the flaws from the last title, are far more important than adding new features - which have more than a tinge of "novelty" about them - in my eyes. I can't speak for everyone else, but I myself would simply like to see that.

P.S. I just remembered the "Random Selection" matches from PES 6. They were brilliant! A reintroduction would be nice.

Alos, the auto-sliding tackle issue needs to be looked at. There was an option to turn it off, I know, but this only applied to leagues, cups, etc. and not individual matches, i.e. the Exhibition mode. Instead, the option should be included under the "Player Settings" options - where you can change the auto-switching frequency and other things. Then it would apply to every game. Simple!
