Long from a Goal Kick: ever worth it?

Just wondered what you guys think about playing the ball long from a goal kick, or a deep free kick. Do you ever do it? I find it's a stone wall way of giving the other person a great chance to attack, as it always seems to get contested just inside the opposition half, dropping to the opposition, with my midfielders running on past the ball, leaving my back 4 exposed.

Any tips? Prehaps playing the ball more into space, or should I just avoid it?

It's good if you have a tall striker like Crouch, Adebayor e.t.c. who can win aerial challenges

I've found that it you float the ball, by pressing R2 (on the 360, I'm sure it's the same on PS2), it makes it tougher for the keeper to win the ball, because you get more time to position your player in his way. If the keeper does win the ball, he'll only punch it out, and there's a good chance you'll win the ball and put it into a pretty much open goal. If you're even luckier, since the ball can float quite high, there's a chance of the cross looping over the keeper and going straight in. I've had two incedents where I've hit the bar, so you never know.

Like Bammers said, you'll need a tall striker. I like Berbatov, Adriano and Ibrahimovic - tall player with very good body balance.

i lik berbatov but hate adriano and dont really like ibrahimovich, but they are good in the game.the only reason i ever pump it long from a goal kick is for a bit of mixture in the game but it is rare that it works.ive also found taking it neear th by-lin and just pressing cross one so it looped, but not holding rt so its looped even higher, can often go very close to the goal over the keeper and if you connect you cant miss despite it been a header!!

for me from goal kicks its always worth it, as long as your midfield doesn't consist of people that are 2 ft tall. In terms of free kicks i prefer short, yet the floaty ones can be okay, you have to get them perfect though.

I very rarely kick the ball long from goal kicks as i like working my way up the pitch and as for free kicks it depends what team i am and what sort of options i have

I'd say I kick the ball long one time in 20. I always just use the short pass to the CB, Pass to the LB/RB, pass it to the RM/LM (I always play with pacy wingers), then I just run down the wing and I've set up an attack from the goal kick. Works 9 times out of 10.

I do exactly the same ferdinand. It's even better with a fast winger.
