I don't mean to burst your bubble but how can this game work in north America when Europe uses PAL and North America uses NTSC? I suggest that anyone who lives in North America or Canada should verify if this game is really region-free before they go buying it. Even if the game is region-free, how will it get beyond the TV settings [NTSC vs PAL]??

THe EUro version (PAL) wound indeed work on a US HD TV. HD TVS have no region difference so if you play PES2008 on a US HD TV it will indeed work !

Well let's know how it goes when you buy the game then, but i for one know that the PAL/NTSC thing still applies to HDTV- go ask at your local electronic store or Google it.
