Seriously impressed with the demo (especially when extended)

So I booted up the PES demo (with the time extender), and my goodness - I played the most enjoyable game of virtual football ever (and I'll even include the first time I played FIFA International Soccer & ISS in there too!)

Something I hadn't really noticed before in the demo (due to the rarity of it happening), but the very physical nature of the ball, I know in previous PES games we've had balls bouncing off people's heads, but I scored a goal that otherwise would have gone wide courteousy of a defender's head being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I've yet to score the same goal twice (I'm playing on Regular - I'm still getting used to the 360 controller on the PC!), and I've just had great football all around - definitely my best PES experience yet.

I love that the referee isn't anal about the slightest tug of a shirt anymore - that really became a gripe of mine in PES 5. I also love that the referee nor his linesmen are not all-knowing. If they aren't in the right place to see something, it heavily increases the chances of it going unpunished!

The improved menus are a very welcome revision as the old menus are borderline torture.

All in all, I'm thoroughly stoked about the game, and I can't wait to play the real thing so I can check out the master league (and what I hope some really exciting and engaging management play)

at last, a 100% positive reaction!

i haven't downloaded the demo or anything, i am just going to wait until next week.

by the way, do the linesman flag for fouls and freekicks? say before the ref actually blows his whistle.

i.e say you tackle someone right infront of the linesman which is a foul, does he flag and THEN the ref will blow for a freekick, as though the ref is going on what his linesman saw?

I just did a little test, and the linesman does do his little wiggle with the flag, but the ref wasn't too far away so it was pretty much the same time. Will have to keep an eye out, a replay seemingly would be the best way to see it, but the whistles aren't recorded :(

I'll keep playing and let you know if there is a latency behind linesmens reactions and the ref.

I had an offside against me in the demo earlier and the linesman flaged to signal the offside and then the ref blew for the offside following the linesmans decision, so it would seem that the ref bases offsides on the linesman. I am unsure of freekicks though....will have to keep an eye out.

Aye, perhaps it is because I'm now consciously looking for it - but there is definitely a pronounced latency between the linesman's reaction and the whistle blowing for an offside decision as described by copa_mundial!

Either way, neat stuff :D

yeah of corse its neat this is Pro evo 2008

i wonder if you'll beable to score goals that are offside, or score a goal that was ruled offside but wasn't? mistakes by linesman just like in real life, sometimes it annoys me that the offside decisions are always perfect, there is never any contraversy when it comes to those decisions because you know the computer will get it right! I would like to be playing a 2 player game and score a goal that was margianally offside, can you imagine the mayhem with controllers being dashed at screens and stuff!

I played the demo on the PC and I thought that the speed is totally astronomical. It's like PES6 on steroids. No real match is played like this. Not even clashes between Liverpool and Everton. I seriously hope they reduce the speed by a HUGE amount before the release cause this was ridiculous (correct spelling?). Why can they never get the speed right? I thought this was supposed to be a simulation.

Another thing that's REALLY annoying is when I do a tackle and the player I tackle gets up BEFORE me and takes the ball. Come on man, that almost never happens in real soccer.

Actually, that's a very good phrase. If Seabass sees it, he may borrow it and proudly put it down there in the box, next to Ronaldo's shoulder: "Like PES 6. But on steroids." At least that's the direction he seems to be taking.

But you said they were on steroids, so why does that come as a surprise to you? Maybe next year we'll be able to score from 30 yards by kicking with the back to the goal, like in FIFA 2001.

Yeah, I'm exaggerating. Actually the game's pretty smooth, but that makes these things all the more annoying. The speed particularly gets to my nerves. Whitestar is right, the players run like crazy during the entire game. Maybe they're sponsoring Red Bull?
