And spoke to their technical department. I asked when the PC patch would be joined by the PS3 and 360 patches, to which the man said he didn't know in a rather stroppy manor. Giving me the impression this is the 100th time he's had to answer this question since last Friday.

I asked what they intended to do about the horrific lagging and jumping frames throughout the game. He said they are planning on releasing two patches for the PS3, as their are so many issues that need addressing. I tried to press him more to find out what else the patch would offer ("The whole game will transform" I hoped to hear) but he wouldn't let anything else slip.

Finally though, I think we've found something ground breaking about the game. 2 patches, released less than a week after release of the game?? That has to be a world first.

Is it me, or is the PS3 becoming the next PC?

Who'd of thought during the days of PS2 that we'd need patches...

Patches are great. I dont mind at all!

If they improve a game, or add extra features then yes, they are acceptable. I just hate having them to fix fuck-ups.

In all honesty, i'd rather have waited until next year for a bug free initial release. GTA had the right idea, upset a few impatient muppets now, rather than upset everyone.

we got the next gen gameplay hopefully for once they r comitted to fix the rest. if all the issues are adressed by the end of the month we shouldnt have anything to complain about. any other features added r just a bonus in my opinion

i think the ps2 took patching to a whole new level... i mean many of these developers have learned from many of you guys on these forums on how to hack and change code and all that...

in fact, every year they try to make it more and more difficult and every year you guys manage to figure it out and release a patch that makes the game as enjoyable as it can be....

patches O'Houlihan....about time. i wonder why they have the name old snake in metal gear 4...you think it meens in a kojima twist you will play as a young snake as well??? cos the logic thing to do would be just to name him snake...old snake?

Why? They admit the game had flaws and are decent enough (they owe it to us) to add an extra update to fix these. If they are free as I assume, I see no problem with this.

Err...why should the game have come out this poorly in the first place? Do they not take the game and test it? It's incredible they could have fucked it up this badly.

They're doing it to save face and get the customers back onside.

I agree... it shouldn't have; but I'm hardly against Konami releasing updates every year if they feel anything isn't as good as it could be and they see an appropriate way to put things right.

i agree, who are the testers? maybe next year they should select a few die hard pro evo fans from forums like this and give them a version of the game a month or so before release to test. that way they will get good honest feedback, and then have the oppurtunity to fix or address the problems and delay the release.

He agreed with you in the first place.

He's saying OK they shouldn't have bought it out, but they have done. So if a patch fixes it then why is it a bad thing?

Because releasing 'buggy' code in this day and age, and especially for a console (sorry sony, but it is...), is frankly unnaceptable.

If companies like Konami know they are releasing what is effectively an unfinished product, then why don't they say so? The answer my friend is: they would not sell.

All the pre-release bollocks about the features didn't include stuttering framerates, PES 6 rotbox levels of customisation etc...

Look, i happen to like the gameplay, but i don't like paying full price for an unfinished product.

Next time you buy a sandwich, if the assistant said "oops it's not finished, you can have one slice of bread and the filling for full price, BUT, we'll send you the top slice in a month", would you be happy?

Rant over.

this is a bit differnet to a sandwhich, yes i agree your principle is the same, but PES2008 isn't gonna go off, or go rotten after a month. i don't understand, Patches are always being released for PC games.

I think we should start getting used to this on the PS3 seen as it is more or less a PC anyway, take warhawk, v1.1 patch was released last week that fixed a few bugs, and i bet a lot more games could be like this in the future.

My theory is, Konami released the game like this KNOWING they could patch it in a few weeks on the PS3, PC and xbox360 if they needed too. So they released the game just so they wouldn't lose out on those precious sales to FIFA08.

If the choice was to wait until march for a bug free PES08, or get a buggy game released on time, that is fully patched and unbugged by march. I would choose the latter. I enjoy playing the game even with its bugs, so I'd rather be playing it now with the bugs than not playing it at all.

My point is (despite the dodgy sarnie reference) that we shouldn't need to. It's going to be unavoidable i feel, but it shouldn't becom the norm, a la PC. Nice to see you agree on the sales point though.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that one ;) I believe Rockstar have made the right choice with GTA by delaying it. they want to get a quality product on the market, not a half baked version, and credit to them. They are not obviously concerned about the xmas sales, they know they'll get them any time of year and tbh, so would PES.

yeah, plus GTA4

A) does not have any direct competition, like pes and fifa.

B) isn't really time dependant, like it would have seemed silly to me to have pes released in march 2008, when it is traditionally known that any sports game being released with the YEAR in its title needs to be released a couple of months before the corrosponding year actually starts, not 3 months into it.

but i stillstand by my theory that fifa being the only next gen footie game out Konami had no choice but to release when they did otherwise fifa would have got WAY to much of the spotlight.
