System settings - Install what?

I'm new here so bare with me...

I was just wondering, in the 'system settings' menu there is an 'install' option. When you click it you can "install game data". When I confirm I want to install game data it starts to load, 1%, 2% etc. I clicked cancel right away since I didn't know what the heck I was doing.

Can anyone here tell me what this does if I let it load completely? Does it install the game from the CD to the hard drive of the PS3? If so, are there any advantages playing the game from the hard drive instead of the CD?

You mean if I let the installation finish? Does it copy the game from the CD to the hard drive?

1st: Yes.
2nd: It does but still you will have put in the CD to play the game.

This is the file that gets updated when you install the patch.
