Serious issue with PS2 PES 2008 online play...

I played a couple of online games of PES 2008 on my PS2 earlier on and something absolutely shocking happened.

While I was in the middle of playing the online game, my striker ran in my opponents 6 yard area and took a shot. The ball deflected off my opponent's Goalkeeper and the ball somehow landed in my own 6 yard area and my Goalkeeper was suddenly struggling to stop the ball from landing in my goal.

This happened twice in 2 matches I played online on my PS2 today. How could something like this happen? I'm assuming that this is some kind of weird form of lag.

Anyone else experienced this while playing PES 2008 online on the PS2?

yes mate this happend to me alot of times and it will still it is because lag
