Does Anybody Else Hate How The Computer Cheats?!

I'm just wondering about this as it seems the cheating the computer does is unreal.

for instance:

1. When you do a tackle the computer conveniently gets the ball back - the player you tackled might as well have just done the perfect pass to his team mate as that's where the ball goes, and straight to feet.

2.when you're fouled in opponents box ref doesn't give penalties but for the same foul anywhere else on the field (that you commit) you get a yellow for.

3. your players turn soooooo slowly on the ball allowing opponents to tackle even if you're dribbling with someone fast like walcott and not someone rubbish like distin

4. slow opponent players catch up and push past you to tackle you as if by miracle (christiano ronaldo vs say makalele)

5. computer *nearly always* scores free kicks even if you have a brilliant keeper and the guy taking the free kick is John Mcrubbish

6. every pass you make goes directly to opposing team or goes to the wrong player in a bad position so the computer can get the ball back easily.

7. your defenders refuse to head the ball when in a brilliant position, allowing computer to score

8. when you tackle the computer the ball seems to bobble and then stick to that players feet defying physics.

9. your players refuse to shoot or pass when you tell them. For example you press the button to make sure they hit it first time and instead they take bad touches and allow defenders to close down making chances to score disappear

10. your defenders kicking the ball out when there's plenty of time to pass properly and you've told them not to kick it in that direction.

11. you can smell when the computer has decided it *will* score as all their players are crap and even though you close them down and give them no space they seem to be able to bustle past and push defenders out of the way in order to score.

It makes master league almost unplayable when you're far better than the team you're playing but it cheats at every opportunity and decides not to let you win.

It even cheats when you play a friend in exhibition mode but not nearly as bad and it seems to swap who it cheats.

There's plenty more but I'll let someone else get angry now! What cheats have you run into?

pretty much everything you have put down there, no 11 lol i get that all the time. and i know exactly what you mean about tackleing a player and they somehow keep the ball or they "pass" to another player

if you can go on a winning streak of 25+ games and then EVERY game is a cheat

i played a spanish league and every header puyol jumped for he missed. no lie he only conected with his head when his feet were firmly on the floor. 38 games of an imcompetant defender

I agree. Especially no.11. I sometimes reckon you are better just to let the computer score its goal and then try again, cos nothing you do can stop their players surge towards your goal.

Numbers 1 and 4 really get me. You may as well not tackle sometimes, its like you are playing a give and go pass for the other team when tackling!! and i also get pissed off when players like Patrick Viera are 5 meters behind a player like Rooney or C.Ronaldo will catch them up , overtake and tackle you!!

another one that really annoys me: this seems to happen all the time.....the ball is going out for a goal kick , your defender is running towards the ball to clear it out your area as there is a couple of attackers not that far behind you and might get the ball if you leave it ,so you try to clear the ball upfield / out for a throw to be safe. And it doesnt seem to matter how many times you press the button, your defender runs into the ball and takes it out of play for a corner, and they dont even attempt to clear the god damn thing!!! they are not under any pressure so why can they not do the most basic thing in football , kick the ball upfield??

You forgot one! Your players saving the opposing defenders some work and effectively shielding themselves from the ball behind them.

The best example of this is when you take free kicks in midfield. You'll notice that when the AI is applying that deadly, unrealistic pressure of its, the one and only player to whom you can short-pass the ball will go stand behind an opponent player. WTF? The only one of my players who seems immune to this bewitching is Mascherano. Perhaps it has to do with some hidden stat? Like "stupidity"?

Number 6 - I wouldnt quite say " every pass you make goes to the opposition" but i know what you mean.

I really dont understand how you can have a player a few meters away with no opposition players in the way and you can still fail to pass the ball to him!! with it being passed to the other team!!

I disagree with most of what you've said there to be honest. I'll try to answer some of your points.

When I first bought the game I was (like you) trying to blame everything except myself. I came to realise it's more down to what I'm doing wrong rather than what the CPU is doing right.

Points 5 and 7 - At first, the CPU nearly ALWAYS scored their FK's and corners. I've since got better at defending both. Putting a defender on the edge of the 6 yard box when defending a FK can help, as you can sometimes head it away. I know the CPU STILL score too many FK's even after you've done your best to defend them, but if you don't concede the FK in the first place, they can't score a FK.

I know it's not always easy to say that, so don't immediately jump on my back for it. Why not stand the player up instead of diving in? Get goal-side and face him up with R2. It works, trust me.

I think a big problem with people on forums complaining about the game is that they expect everything to be straightforward with the game. The booklet with the game doesn't explain every little trick in how to defend, but it goes a long way. These forums have helped me a lot in defending dead ball situations and in open play. Just take the time to read over stuff and you'll be better for it.

Point 2 - Now, I've been awarded plenty of penalties that shouldn't have been given, and I've also not been given penalties when they should've been given. Real managers in real life feel exactly the same way. If you got every penalty that in your eyes should be a penalty, it wouldn't be that realistic.

Point 4 - You have to look at a lot of factors here. Firstly, Ronaldo is faster than Makelele, we know that. But who's stronger? Makelele. If Makelele manages to get into a tustle with Ronaldo, or any other stronger player infact, the stronger player will be more likely to win the ball, which is why it's best to avoid these tussels when you can.

Point 6 - To me it's nonsense. It's your job to find out if your player is in a good position or not. That's what the radar is for. To me, 2008 jumps over any other game in the PES series as far as closing down by the CPU goes. They give you hardly no time on the ball, whereas in previous versions you could score, and almost pass around along the back four and GK at will, and win 1-0 if you wanted to. If you make a mistake once when messing around at the back, be extra careful next time.

Point 1 - Yes, sometimes they do seem to "conveniently" get the ball, but I think (don't quote me on this) that it could have something to do with the level of difficulty you're playing on. Again, in real life there's plenty of occasions when one team seems to get the "bounce of the ball".

Point 3 - I can't say I've had this problem. My players turn the way I want them to turn pretty much all the time :p

Point 9 - This does happen sometimes, but it's mostly down to the player's attributes. Yes, they don't always shoot first time and it doesn't always fly in the top corner like you want it to, but again, in real life, it doesn't always do that either. It's not very often in the PL that a player gets time and space to get a decent first time shot away, let alone score from it.

So yeah, that's just my views on it. You may completely disagree with me, you may not. I just felt like replying because back when I first got the game, I probably felt like posting the same message as you.

Baddar, couldnt agree more. Im playing on Superstar level now and at times i wanna break the bloody thing in two, but it makes it so more realistic. Sometimes my team is just on fire and they beat Chelsea 3-0, then next week we have to struggle to get a draw at Sunderland.

Its frustrating but all the more rewarding when you do win. I was getting bored on the lower levels coz you can just buy two excellent strikers and depend on them to win all the time. BUt ive just won the league at the 4th time of asking and it feels great!!

I would really love to see Makelele catch C.Ronaldo !! and who is stronger?? C.Ronaldo 6ft 3ins tall and 21 yrs old vs Makelele 5ft 9ins tall and 30+ yrs old??
think about what you have written!

Sounds like you just don't like things going against you mate to be honest. Have you ever seen a real life footy match? These things happen all the time, it'd be absolutely shite if every time you made a tackle your player came away with the ball, and just because you have a great 'keeper a lesser known player would never score a free kick past him. It just makes it even more rewarding when you do win.

There is a massive problem with speed/pace/top speed in the game.
U can have lennon bombing down the wing and sami hyypia keeping up with him. Stupid =(

To mp78, I actually did think what about I'd written, and it does make sense.

Yes, I know Makelele shouldn't neccesarily keep up with Ronaldo, but if he goes shoulder-to-shoulder with him, I'd back Makelele most of the time.

In saying that, I personally don't have any trouble running past the slower guys, which is why I'm finding it hard to work out what you mean. I bomb past players easily with faster players. It's about using the sprint button at the correct time.

What I normally do when on the wing is entice a player in, whoever it may be, without holding sprint...then when they come forward to put a foot in, I press the sprint button down and I'm away. It works.

I agree. If you sprint at a player from a distance, you'll give them time to gauge where you could go, therefore making it easier for them to stop you. It's best to suddenly sprint past them when they're close.

think about what you have written!

You havin' a giraffe?!?!? Height can be a disadvantage. Smaller player, lower centre of gravity, hence greater stability. Oh, + makalele is a bleedin' brick & Ronny is a nonce.

I didnt say running past players is a problem because its not. Any retard knows how to use the sprint button properly as you so cleverly suggested.
Its when a slower player can somehow manage to catch you up when you are clearly running away from them. And yeah Ronaldo is bit of a Nonce but still size matters. I am 6ft 4in. tall and play football a lot and i know through my experience if some little short ass , no matter how strong they are will bounce off me if there is a physical contact. And in order to get someone bigger than you off the ball through the use of strength is 99% of the time going to result in a foul .

ps . thanks for letting me know you had to step round a player before sprinting. I would have never thought of that idea !!

I like the way people keep quoting on things that happen in "real" football. I would be interested to know how many of you play "real" football. ( and no , the school team does not count ) and at what sort of level they have played to.

As height is such a disadvantage can you explain to me why the players who need to be the strongest and generally do most the tackling( usually your centre backs ) tend to be over 6ft tall? I can really see those midgets knocking them over, because afterall they have a lower centre of gravity!!!
