Konami Grab Champions League License?!?!

Hunter

BELIEVE
I think it would be a win-win for everyone involved -if- Sony and Konami reach an agreement of ONLY including the UEFA Champions League on the PES versions for PS3.

This way it would be very profitable for Sony, as well as it would please millions of PES Fans worldwide. The main issue with such an agreement would be that it isn't the best profitable-wise proposition for UEFA (from UEFA's perspective).

And yeah, such an agreement would suck for Xbox owners -but- it is better than getting ripped off by Konami-Sony-UEFA.

This could really work wonders for Konami -as- featuring the UEFA Champions League in their PES series -could- prove decisive in their competition with EA's FIFA.

And then again, a spin-off game of the "UEFA Champions League" might not turn out as profitable as they expected. Only fools buy such an excuse of a game.

That is the worst idea ever. They may please millions of PES fans but they would lose all respect from millions too, which doesn't really help you elevate a game to the next stage does it ? It isn't a "win-win" by any means, the only win it's for is Sony and PS3 fans, no one else, not even Konami as they'll be raped for not treating all the public equally by excluding the Xbox 360 and Wii console owners like myself.

Well, if you want to get ripped off, then that's fine by me.. But I won't be wasting my money on some "UEFA Champions League" spin-off game.

And considering that Sony haves something to do with it -and- Microsoft haves nothing to do with it -it- is only fair that Sony comes out better than Microsoft.

^Konami would loose money if they make something ps3 exclusive such as champions league. There are more X360 players so far (not sure about pes 2008 though).
If there is a stand alone UEFA CL game, will all the teams be licensed? If not, it would be soooooo crap! Imagine a CL with teams such as North London and Trad Brick??? So I guess Konami will put the CL license in PES2009 if they really grab that license.

Agreed. It makes sense.

I think that if KCET really have got the Champions League licence and they were to make a stand alone UEFA Champions League game, then my guess is that ALL of the teams in the game would be licensed.

Then PES 2009 would be left without an unlicensed Champions League. This is the scenario that makes the most sense. Anything else is absolutely ludicrous.

KCET will lose lots of money if they put the Champions League licence in PES 2009 as they will miss out on the extra sales they could achieve through a separate Champions League game.

KCET know that PES 2009 will continue to sell with or without a Champions League licence thats why they will release a separate Champions League game IF they have indeed got the licence.

Well yeah, from a certain point of view what you said seems to be the case -BUT- the thing you failed to consider was that today we can easily download a "Champions League Patch" -and- problem solved.

Maybe also download a patch for Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool -and- I have no need at all to waste my money on a "UEFA Champions League" game.

I think people who buy games such as "UEFA Champions League" are fools, what a waste of money.. buying the same game with a Different Title. A great way to waste 100 bucks in the same EXACT game.

The issue here is that Konami might actually lose millions if they release a separate Champions League game. Who will buy such a game??

Considering the amount of things that can be downloaded (or edited) today -it- would be a safer and wiser choice for Konami -to- Include the UEFA Champions League in PES09, it would probably win over some FIFA fans -and- it would certainly make a difference in their competition with EA's FIFA.

Agreed. It makes sense.

In that case, Konami can always release a separate "UEFA Champions League" game for the X360 -and- release an exclusive game for the PS3, that is including the UEFA Champions League only on PS3 versions of PES.

This way, X360 players have an option if they want -and- PS3 owners have an exclusive game. And again, this would be better for Sony, Konami and UEFA.

Because this way, they can have the extra-profit of releasing a game based on the "UEFA Champions League" -while- they would also secure better sales in the PES series for PS3.

I think this would be a win-win for everyone involved.

Fifa makes EU versions. Like we saw in UEFA 08. They tweaked the game a little bit and there you have it. FIFA fans buying it. I think many people will buy it. But sorry guy's I am not a believer of this champion league thing. If they have it they would probably put it in the game. But It really doesn't matter for me. But i think it will be nice for allot of fans. But still i don't think Konami would make a seperate game.

Remember they have allot to make up for. At least Seabass was honest. Pes2008 wasn't even out and he was complaining. So i think we are dealing with a honest man that will give us allot in pes 2009. Let's hope.

if they decide to make a separate game then it's for the money. If they need it they will get it. Maybe a way to pay for the licenses.

fifa has the EC (euro cup) which is the camps league but not officially..... youll be suprised how many people can work on a game i know different game but rockstar had over 1000 people working on GTA 4... as for liscense as long as you get the GB's say so then the rest will fall in line like they way pes can have the nike ball for the la liga only... because they have the la liga liscense!

If the CL is not included in pes 2009, I guess it will be in pes 2010.
Amateur: I think you're right but still the ps3 players will benefit a bit.

To be honest, I don't even care that much about the UEFA Champions League. I am NOT going to waste my money on a "UEFA Champions League" spin off game -and- I can always download a "Champions League Patch" for PES09.

So to hell with it, Konami can do wathever they want to with The UEFA Champions League.. I don't care. I only think that IF Konami haves the License -then- it's only fair that they include the CL in PES09 -because- it is only fair after a disappointment like PES08.

yer i agree with you shaun i dont really kno how they will use it to if it is in pes09 will it be part of the master league or a seperate part like when you choose the cup in the menu....im a lil cofused what this will offer us....does that mean then that all the participents will be liscensed now like liverpool and others that wernt before...

and i kno that if they bought it from uefa then they dont have to worry bout adidas or other things ecause the BG(uefa) will be all that matters

That's another thing in Konami's favor. If Konami includes the UEFA Champions League in PES09 -then- they would have almost all the Important Licenses; Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc, etc.. The ones that are usually missing in the PES series.

This would make FIFA's Licenses pointless -something- that can only help Konami.

yer mate it would dent but i dont think make it pointless.. youll always have fifa fanboys, and maybe it will feel different on both games..... but because fifa ofc has the fifa liscense then all bodies involved are fifa's

True, the license wont be a problem, I just think it would be a plus point. If they get the CL license, would that mean that the team in the CL can be licensed too??? i.e Manutd wont get license for FA but can it get license for CL??? Curious.

Yeah, I think so.. That is why it would be a good deal for Konami -because- it would include Licenses for all the Top Teams in Europe.

This would make FIFA's EPL License pointless -something- that can only help Konami in their competition against EA Sports.

Believe me, Fifa-Fan-Boys would be very interested in a Football game that includes the UEFA Champions League. That License could win over some casual gamers that are more into FIFA (because of the Licenses of course).

PES 2009 Champions League Mode

Posted by Peter Willis in PES 2009 News on Wed 09 Jul 2008

I was informed last week that Konami had indeed acquired the Champions League licence, but told it may not be in PES 2009. I was then told 2 days ago that it is in fact going to feature in Pro Evo 2009… but opted not to post it as there is a NDA in place. But, you know what, I didn’t sign any NDA - Konami never tell us a thing, they apparently don’t care about 10,000 PES fans coming through our door every single day. Not one single acknowledgement came from Konami following Dan Bolas’ massive effort at putting together a letter containing the thoughts of the fans.

So screw ‘em, this post is a little bit of a two fingers up to Konami for ignoring us for the past 6 years. You may already know this if you hunt through the forums of a certain website for long enough, but…

The Champions League mode WILL be in Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. Not a seperate game.

That is all.
