So. Downloaded the PC and PS3 demo.

Real Madrid vs Chelsea, won 9-1. I scored first from a scrimmage, then decided to check out the penalty shoot-outs, so walked the ball into my own goal. To pass the time, I started messing about with the "tricks". Sneijder on the left flank, did some sort of heel trick, wanted to cross the ball but accidentally hit the shooting button, which resulted in a goal (from well over 35m, from the fucking sideline). A bit confused, I then decided to try out how 'good' the keepers are. Needless to say, I only managed to fit 7 more goals in from practically all over the field before I got bored and went back to trying out tricks again.

This isn't football, EA. If I buy a football game I want to be challenged by intelligent opposition. Sure, this may have been set on amateur or something, but I don't particularly find the movement of my fellow team mates all too intelligent either.

And then there's the gameplay. As usual, the 'ball on a string' gameplay is back. You can make freak 360 turns with a defender in your neck and the ball just magically sticks to your feet. You never really have the idea you're controlling a human being who is controlling a ball. It just feels like you control either a human, or a human with a third testicle.

Graphics wise, sure the players look like they're supposed to, but only if you zoom in properly. Otherwise the game looks rather bland and edgy. As usual the goal celebrations is where all the bling bling appears on your screen, which is ironically the screen you'll be seeing way too often.

I played some more games on the PC, but alas, the same problems persisted.

Overall conclusion, FIFA 09 is probably a good game for children who want nothing more than seeing their footballing idols on their screens, and don't mind about the freak score lines or unrealistic gameplay. Fifa 09 the best football arcade game, nothing more.

For fans of realistic football, I just don't see how this game would even come close to appeasing you. It's the same old reason why you started playing PES in the first place, unrealistic football, not a single challenging game, all about commerce.

I'll pass, once again.
You must of had it on begginer difficulty cause since Fifa 07 I haven't scored more than 5 on any difficutly above proffesional.

I haven't downloaded it yet. I tried earlier and it was 14% after 25 minutes. Fuck that for a lark.

""Unfortunately, a minor technical problem has caused a delay to today's PLAYSTATION Store for PS3 release of new content. Currently, we anticipate that the new Store content will be available tomorrow (Friday) morning."

Taken from the official Sony site.

Not sure if true as I can't be bothered checking the Sony site as it doesn't effect me, but yeah..

Also, less fanboy rubbish in here or I'll be deleting posts (!)

Can you move the Fifa threads that are in the PES section to here.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I've brought them into Other Gaming but don't want to merge them into this thread despite how annoying they can be.

I've finished with the demo, I'm no PES fanboy at all and here are my observations:

-I still can't use my PS2 controller, leaving me with only the keyboard which, quite frankly, is ridiculous.
-I shouldn't have to tweak an INI file to open up the possibility of a PS2 controller working
-There shouldn't be a "mouse and keyboard" option.
-The game, on its default resolution and detail settings was struggling to cope on my ATI Radeon HD4870 which can run Mass Effect perfectly at 1680x1050 with 8xAA. Oblivion and Race Driver GRID are more graphically intensive and ran far better. No current game bar perhaps Crysis on full settings should suffer any issues on this card up to my native resolution - which I wasn't even playing at. The jitter might be bad coding but I shouldn't be seeing it in ANY game.
-The response times are erratic, sometimes instant as you would expect and at other times delayed. It isn't delayed by a lot but it ruins the fluidity and simply isn't acceptable.
-The gameplay honestly felt too arcadey which is something I've always found with FIFA.

Now then, I'll probably buy PES2009 despite being so royally disappointed with 2008 and am hoping that it at least doesn't suffer from any of the above issues.

Played FIFA 09 today after downloading the demo and it is absolute piss. As far as I mind, its the same, if not worse than 08 and the football in 09 is like a £1.99 ball that you buy on a beach.

How people can say FIFA is better than PES is well beyond me. Even PES2008 is better than FIFA will ever be.

My mate's are all claiming that it's decent, and quite frankly I'd rather believe their opinion than the obvious bias that is coming from posters on a Pro Evo site.

Honestly, mate shes crap. Im not being biased here, Im just saying what Im saying having played the demo.

Im still playing it, but for one reason, possibly the only reason to still have the demo... The Ronaldinho against the keeper loading thing.

You can value my opinion to be honest. I haven't bought a FIFA since 1997 (yes the one with Ginola on the front ), anyway, I tried the FIFA 08 demo last year and was still relatively unimpressed if I'm honest. Although I partially enjoyed the Euro 2008 demo but that may purely have been all the hype surrounding the Euro's which may have influenced my opinion. As for the FIFA 09 demo, I'm loving it so far. Everything seems pretty spot on as far as the gameplay goes, only flaw is that it's difficult to score, and not in a good sense. The ball physics for the shooting should be better, instead of the ball dipping, a lot of the time it floats and rises for a long time meaning a lot of efforts fly over.

Worth a bash mate, get the demo.
