Played around 10 games or so so far. The game keeps getting better and better. Dunno what, but looks like AI is improving over time. While in first 2-3 games I had tons of chances now they are not as many. Actually out of the last 3 games I lost 2 and won 1 (on Top Player). So I guess AI is proving to be somewhat of a challenge. I still think that it should be a bit more smart at Top Player level, but its still pretty good. Goalies are pretty good.
I dont like that chants are too loud, and also the referee, who give red cards left and right. Also, AI's slide tackles are almost always end up in yellow card, I on the other hand get it rarely. AI needs to learn how to slide tackle properly!!
Overall: Great demo. 8.8/10

Just played my first match and its brillant. On 360

It is a little bit slower then last years which make it better i feel. Very good CPU. I'm also happy that im not getting pressured by the defense constantly. They actually drop back and play offsides. Very happy with the demo so far. I could careless about ad boards and the fans. I heard United fans singing and cheering. What a relief this PES is. Also best soundtrack in the pes that i'v played.

I think it's brilliant. Perhaps the biggest improvement in my opinion is the crossing and heading, it's so much easier to use. Passing is better also, and my god are the player faces perfect or what? FIFA cannot compete.

Seems to be really realistic too, I just cannot get Robbie Keane to score. :p

well, after a couple of games of the demo here's my thoughts. and i'll say off the top that at least konami gave us 5 min matches... the 2 min you get in fifa isn't enough to get an accurate gauge of the gameplay.

- graphics are much better
- game speed is way way different from 08
- i agree that the running animations are a bit boxy
- overall it seems a bit LESS responsive than 08... this could be due to the slower speed of the gameplay.
- still no control over where the goalie will kick the ball
- robinho still plays for real
- passing seems, uhh, a bit off IMO
- the AI has gotten much much better, especially on defence.
- long throw ins suck.. the guy just throws it way up in the air and it hangs for a while.
- shooting is really soft... by that i mean you don't need a whole lot of the power meter. otherwise its way over.
- crosses play in different as well... they miss a lot more.. its not so auto directed toward a player

overall its a definite improvement over 2008... only time will tell with the actual product though

Just played it on PS3 and it looks to be less responsive than PC demo :((( Also, i dont like how the tricks are on the d-pad. I hope it will be possible to change that in the full version of the game back to the right stick where it belongs...

impressed with the demo so far (ps3) it looks much better than 08 with the graphics and stadium colors plays a lot like pes of old something across the lines of pes5 or pes6 ...

im def gettitng it in a couple weeks time.. one thing tho the ball sounds a bit weird.. like a ping pong ball when its kicked...

other than that.. awesome

so after another 15 demo matches, i have to say this feels more like actual football. its awesome.

you can actually make good intelligent long ball passes, across the pitch... the AI makes intelligent runs and overlaps and is smart about its support of the attack.

the pace of the game is really really good IMO... and i like how the defense isnt constantly running at you... they play positional defense, which allows for a bit more space and time to pick out your targets... which is also much more realistic.

all in all its looking like its gonna be a cracker of a game! very excited

Feels more like real football, I like it. I scored screamer with Tevez and when he was celebrating I noticed he had that scar on his neck.

Aye, mate. The player faces and graphics in general, are definitely better this year round.

I haven't played much of PES 08, so I'll be comparing with PES5/6. It's a huge leap, in graphics terms, coming from PES5 to '09. In the earlier versions, to achieve kits and faces who are as good as those in '09, I had to use kitserver.

On another note: the menu is better than last year's.

I'm enjoying the demo, a lot. So much so that I forget to pause and quit before injury time so I don't have to see that damn video :realmad:

We share the same boat amigo.

We, PC Gamers (apparently) can turn this off. I'll check for that. :smug:

As BarnDoor said, despite the game being good it does not seem to have the same old PES vibe which was around the older games.

So far, I'm enjoying the demo and am looking forward to the game. :) I guess I'm not disappointed at all, considering I wasn't expecting much of it. Before playing the demo, I only took a look at a few player screenshots.

Edit: This time, can I get to add my own music in the game? That would be great because the current one is shite.(despite being better than 'Hit 'Em Harder!')

Shooting is rubbish. My players get inside the box and either shoot it straight at the keeper for an easy catch or blast it miles over/wide when it should go in easily :/

Maybe it's just Madrid.

anybody else enjoying the BAL "mode" like fix cam on player wide end and play with a fixed player... wow, it's satisfying as shit to score... scored a header with rooney, a freekick with ronaldo and a last minute set play with torres... FUCKIN ILL MAN

I played as Ronaldo on amateur and scored a free kick from 44 yards out. In off the post. I almost came. Great game mode, will be even better when you can call for passes.

Just played the demo on the PC and I was amazed to see the optimization on lower end graphic cards this time. The game also plays beautifully. IMO PES 09 is way better than PES 08 in every aspect!
No fifa for me this year!!

just finished downloading the game now and played 2 or 3 games and there is a big smile on my face. WoW maan .. its just jaw dropping and polished look and gameplay.

here are the basic difference i fount from Fifa

First of all the graphics..

comparing these 2 are actaully unfair cause i found PES is so much superior in terms of graphics.first of all I didn't had to change anyhting but the antialising of the game is just awesome. not a single ragged edges which we aere constantly shouting for fifa.fifa models look like made of saw blades.
the players look so life like and most interesting thing are the expressions of the players whereas the fifa players were expressionless.i found there were some lighting problem in fifa in terms of exposure which is definitely not a case in PES. FIFA Dept of field was like a joke but PES DOF is just sweet. And the nets and its behaviour ae just awesome.U just haveto play it to feel it .Players look so life like !and the animations complememted the grpahics. But i didnt like the PES09's menue .. i like more of fifa 09's glassy look.

About the controller , PES found my controller automatically and the buttons were nicely placed where i liked. in FIFA there were so much scandal with these buttons , huh ...

i like the sound tracks but i hated the ball sound of PES. it was like a shotgun everytime a players shoots change it immediately.

Satiums are just mind blowign with all the manager benches and crowd look awesomely animated and there are randomization in the crowd and doesnt look it was just with 2d GiF fila and just a copy paste thing like fifa.

The AI is just superb. Many complained about Goalkeepers but i found it was baseless . My man U goalkeeper saved some spectacular sure goal chances and im proud of him

The gameplay is so smooth and complemented by superb animations. it feel like you are really playing a game or watching one on tv . and game speed is perfect. I also likd fifa gameplay and new collusion system but i couldnt play fifa well because of the controller issus.i had to play without the tackle option which i couldnt remap on my controller but i found both fifa and PES gameplay satisfying enough. BUT PES is something extra you can ever ask for !

Conclussion : If its a PC , it gotta have PES09. Yoiu can also buy fifa 09 but u cant miss PES09

I'm enjoying it on the whole. Some observations:

One thing I've noticed is that the CPU seems to play rather dirty on Top Player. Any time I get good movement going, the AI starts in with nasty tackles. Out of the maybe five games I've played on Top, the computer has had nearly a straight red and around five yellows per game!

I think manual passing using just directional usage of the right stick has enormous potential. I've always had an extremely hard time getting manual passing to work correctly due to having to push the stick down AND release at the right time while holding a direction. Didn't get along with my hands.

In spite of the above, I'm not sold on the tricks via just left stick/d-pad (though it is the perfect place for the roulette, imo), as I'm having a tough time getting them to work at all, let alone consistently.

AI movement seems much improved, especially going forward (though defenders actually try to defend, too! What a concept!). I really like that if there's an opportunity to score (like, say, a ball to a wide open player at the far post), the AI on your team will actually take the chance before the cursor can change. It makes play less stupid than it could be at times in the past, because even though you may not actually press the button to shoot, your work in the attack (dribbling, passing, drawing defenders, etc...) isn't wasted as often. Keepers are significantly better, though I've noted some kinda weird (ie, physics-defying) things happening when they, for instance, try to stop a really hard or oddly angled shot.

Shooting is a lot more difficult BUT that difficulty is offset well, imo, by the movement and the types of shots/headers you can manage (and the opportunities enabled by AI movement). I've already scored some with Barca and RM that I haven't even SEEN in '08.

Assisted cursor is enormously irritating. Unassisted is quite possibly genius, though it's taking some serious work to adapt to it.

Squad lists seem a little thin compared to some previous versions of the game, particularly Liverpool. A lot of their youth players are missing. Here's hoping Konami hasn't started skimping on the kids in some of the big teams (they have a few of United's, so that's a good sign). Maybe the full game will have updated rosters.

Count me fairly impressed, and I'm by no means a hype-buyer. If anything, I'm often generally disagreeable and borderline absurdly skeptical. Back to playing.

-J.
