Same old problems

I know this should probably be in the demo thoughts thread but I just felt the need to do it here. I know I'm by no means a regular poster, in fact I can't remember the last time I did but I do visit the site often enough to know peoples thoughts about the upcoming installment of our beloved pes. It pains me to say but I'm not too impressed with the demo, and I'm not going to back that up with a comment like fifa is better because it isn't, it's worse. I wonder what Konami really do for 12months? All the same old niggles that have plauged previous games are still present.

Seabass once mentioned that the Konami team watched plenty of matches and even went to the last world cup to really get the feel of football, I wonder what matches they've been watching?

When was the last time you saw a goalkick and all the back four stand on the dege of the box, inviting pressure from the strikers. Mind at least this time it appears the strikers take this advantage and not run to half way line like last years pes. Why can't I simply pass a square ball or even more importantly kick the ball backwards from a freekick? When I want to keep possesion I don't want to be forced to pump the ball forward or roll it to the nearest man, which inevetably goes straight into the wall and not out wide where I wanted it to go.

Throw-ins are the same, when the opposition have one right in their own corner, my players give them all the time in the world. I haven't noticed the annoying thing of the left winger wandering across to the right side yet but that's probably still there.

I did manage to get my defenders up for a free kick which was nice but then Agger refused to go back and just stood on the edge of their box while the keeper launched the ball inot my half.

I hope some things are now present in the full game, like changing weather which was suppose to be in the last version but clearly wasn't. Oh and I hope the computer players react better to the situation, like start flying into tackles when they need the ball when losing. A side note on this is that when playing the demo today, de rossi, while being controlled by the comp on my team, scythed through the back of henry and got himslef sent off. I was a bit miffed at this but looking back, he is dirty little get so I guess Konami noticed that.

Right, I've had my winge and hope the full game is great but I fear it will disappoint again. Lets hope the edit mode is better this time round. I say again, come on Konami, do some fecking work!!

why is it that the slightest bit of criticism by anybody on this forum results in the term fanboy being used?

Ive already lost the will to play the demo

I must agree with you, I don't have a connection and won't be able to download the demo. But after hearing some of these reviews it may just as well be a good thing, sounds more like PES08.1

I'm dissapointed, just a few upgrades...I wonder if konami took PES08 and made the gameplay as slow as PES09 how much difference there would be between the 2 games? not much i reckon, and don't bring graphics into this, for the 12 months Konami had, the graphics isn't that big step up anyways. Wonder what Konami did these past 12 months.

And they probably only saw the japanese games at the world cup, because they clearly don't know shit about the atmosphere present at big games. Fifa does a waaaaaaay better job at this. One thing I like about Fifa as well is when you press L1 your strikers go on runs, I prefer that to it being set to automatic, gives you more control.

I understand what people are saying about konami maybe not doing much in the past 12 months but surely the same must apply to EA, konami & massively improved the edit section as they probably knew early on that they would be missing out on the licences again & also the become a legend mode has probably taken a lot of development.
I agree they probably could have done more but at the same time EA could maybe have made more significant changes aswell with FIFA but it doesnt seem that way either.
Everyone talks about how much better PES 5&6 were the best football games & look how long it took konami to get to that level on the PS2, it could be that we are all going to have to wait for the guys at konami & EA to get the best out of the new consoles.

For the edit mode being that much improved, I don't think so! Certainly it's a massive improvement on PES08, but not that much of an improvement on the edit mode in PES5 & 6

If you guys listen to only one thing i say, make this it.

No amount of screenshots or video's can do this game justice until you play it for yourself, don't grow disheartened that some people are saying its dodgy, because everyone has different definitions of how they like their PES. I personally loved the demo and cannot wait till the game is released.

Don't listen to what others say about the demo, download it or get the game and try it for yourself. Its like anything else in that if you buy the game expecting epic fail, then you'll probably not like it.

Its a big improvement, of course there are little things that could be improved, there always are, if there weren't it would be the perfect Football game, but for now, this is a great game.

Totally agree! takes a game or so to get used to the new feel of it! but u do fall in love with it! like any pro evo it takes afew games to feel good with it! people need patience! but anyway this game isnt massively different from last years! just had all the problems ironed out and it feels like a proper pro evo game! I don't have to tell people to play pro evo instead of fifa! simply download the demos and judge for yourself! fifas good but pro evo is better!

I find it increasingly ironic that people accuse other people of being 'fanboys' because they dared to criticise their beloved game.

While the presentation is an improvement over last years offering, as is the edit mode, the important issue is that thye have entirely failed to rectify the AI, the animation is still poor and the responsiveness of players is only marginally better than 2008.

Another major issue is the complete lack of any weight to the ball, when a player kicks the ball we hear a nice thud, however the physics are terrible. It's far too easy to dribble around opponents and passing the ball around swiftly could be replicated by a well educated chimp. These provides a complete sense of detachment from the game and I'm therefore entirely unfussed as to the outcome... scoring is about as joyful as is conceding, mainly because the game doesn't make you care.

The lack of stadium atmosphere and issues such as clipping just smack of sheer lazyness on the part of Konami. If anyone is expecting any real changes for the demo I fear you'll be disappointed.

that's just a stupid comment ^^^, he never said he can produce something better! And as Konami is relying on guys like him and everybody else to buy there product he has the full right to criticise the demo, he isn't the only one either.

He didn't have too! he is pulling the game down full stop! so he is questioning the PES teams ability to produce a decent football game!
