I've always found there to a be a learning curve with Pros. I'm enjoying getting use to the game, I didn't want a game where I could just pick it up and beat the computer on top level in my first game.

Too bad this is that game.

Anyone else feel as if the series is becoming more and more scripted? Or at least feels like it?

I'm finding it a challenge myself. A welcomed challenge and I look forward to getting the full game because 5 minute games just aren't enough.

The biggest challenge I find is shrugging off the PES2008 mindset and to a lesser extent the PES6 mindset too. It feels a lot like PES5 which was more of a challenge than the two versions that came afterwards.

As i'm at work i'm now playing PES2009 on my laptop so i'll describe how it runs on this machine. First of all the spec:

Core Duo T2300 @ 1.83Mhz.
ATi X1600 PCI-E Mobility Radeon. (Catalyst 8.9)
1Gb DDR2 RAM.
Windows XP SP3.

Graphics settings (Driver):

2x Anti-Aliasing
8x Antistropic Filtering

Game Settings:

1280x720 Full Screen
High Quality
Using Frame Skipping and Vsync

The menu's all perform as normal, no slowdown there. The intros are choppy but not too bad but not exactly smooth either. Quite close up its ok but can slow down when the crowd is in view. Once you get into the game then things i'm glad to say are perfect framerate wise. No slowdown at anytime during play until you get a replay then its the same as the intros, i'd hazard a guess at between 18-22fps (haven't got FRAPS installed unfortunately). Still its good to see that you don't need killer hardware to play the game at 720p.

Considering the graphics card, you'd probably get quite an improvement if you knocked the level of Anisotropic Filtering down.

For the overall experience that probably would help the replays a lot. As for the gameplay you could probably get away with 4x AA and 16x AF.

You just don't know how to shoot yet, because what you said is not true.
No I think the shooting is pretty awful.

I've spend a hour playing various PES 2009 matches and almost every shot floats over the bar, or is ridiculously weak and goes straight to the keeper.

It's like kicking a balloon.

They've definitely ruined the shooting, unless they change it for the final game.

Really? I've got the hang of the shooting, scored some crackers. Oh and btw when watching real matches how many shots fly over the bar, wide or straight to keeper?? quite a lot I've noticed ;)

I agree with you when your first playing the game but you do get used to it. As i played more games i didn't hold down the shoot button too long i just tapped it, also i held R2 (ps3) to get a more controlled shot and it's easier to place.
I don't know what you mean by weak shots, as all my shots have mostly troubled the keeper so your obviously not aiming where to shoot if they're going straight to him.

Nothing in the demo needs to change.

You need to change how you play.

This is a different game, it will take time to learn how to pass, shoot and dribble.

This is the best PES ever created.

Yes it is difficult, I feel bad for all the pricks who scored goals by running down the wing and dropping a low pass by the penalty area for a lay in goal

Does shooting need to change? No, you must learn how to shoot

Does crossing need to change? No, you must learn how to cross

See where Im going with this... Practice the game you lazy slackers

I've probably played around 10 matches on this demo and so far I'm still somewhat undecided. In PES's defence though, it always takes time to get used to, it has always taken me weeks to decide whether I like it or not, and even with PES 2008 I am still probably undecided.

There is nothing wrong with shooting in my opinion, however I think the dummy's are very slow to respond if my memory serves me right. The goalkeepers are seriously poor, I've seen them make some great saves but also some real messes that any retarded human could deal with. I remember crossing the ball in with Ronaldo against Liverpool, and I crossed it far too close to Reina in goal, and instead of catching it, he let the ball hit him in the face. The tackling is the same as ever which is a disappointment, I was hoping for several more animations when performing a sliding tackle, as well as from the player falling.

The pitch seems to be visually worse than in PES 2008, when taking free-kicks and set pieces at least. From a distance it seems alright, but seems very flat and blurred when taking set pieces which is a shame. The lighting of the graphics is amazing though, and I think Konami have got the pace of the game just about spot on, a tad slower would be better, but considering PES 2008 was rocket-fueled, I'm pleased with the tempo for PES 2009.

Well, I've played on my laptop last night, first of all, I think 5 minutes is not enough to judge the AI (or at least teamvision).

Even tough, it felt like a slowed pes2008, I don't remember how pes5 felt, so I can't tell if it is like that. Shooting is interesting, some players define a lot better than pes2008, and i got to win every game for 2-0 (5 minutes is not enough to come back).

Also, when the game is tied, the AI pretended to close with two lines of 4 (I was playing vs. Real Madrid) which worked pretty well.

Overall is a good game, not mind-killing, but a pretty good.

The only fact that worries me, well, actually there are 2:

1. The players seems to lost a lot of reaction in some plays, resulting even on one own goal (the player kept running towards goal).
2. I ran pes2008 on high quality without any problems, this demo didn't let me play on high quality. I just hope a kitserver lets me play on high lol

Yeah I agree. I will say it's too hard to judge on a 5 minute match. The shooting annoys me, as well as the automatic tricks.

I haven't noticed any of these yet. The only tricks that happen are the ones i perform.
It's happened to me a few times with Tevez, Messi and Ronaldo.

My only real issue is the shooting. Fix that, and you have a fairly decent football game.

Hahahaha.....Man that was funny.

The best defense in the world (and I hate the first team) is Real Madrid (Ramos, Pepe, Cannavaro, Heinze) and Arsenal (Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy)

Liverpool defense =

Compare the Spanish League to the England League for a second. The Spanish League you can play at walking pace, when they come up against the English teams, they are forced to play at England League pace which doesn't suit them. When every an English Team comes up against a Spainish or Italian team, who advances to the next round most of the time?. almost every year the Semi Final contains at least 3 English Teams.

Back on-topic, i Brought FIFA09 yesterday and played it round my mates, since ma XBOX360 has the 3 redlights, and i have to say, its sort of like FIFA08, with a bit more tweaks. Its a brilliant game, but from all the hype from other people it just doesn't live up to it.

Yet to play PES2009, but from reviews and the pole, it could be a hit. Don't forget this is just the demo there could be more in the final version. I just hope the AI dont keep crossing the ball from one-side to the other inside thier own half every 5mins.

Just played a full game as Ronaldo. Double tap R2 to request a pass and for some reason in this mode it's easier to go on mazy runs....perhaps it's just the camera angle, I dunno. Good fun though.

Are you aware that it's been possible to play as one player for the last 7 years or something. You just had to select "fix" in the cursor settings (one step further than manual). We had 2 multitaps and 8 controllers for our PS2, and used to play 8 players with only the keeper and 2 centre backs controlled by the computer. Awesome stuff. This should be included in the online mode, but with 10 on 10 like Fifa.
