hey,

just wondered what people thought on the commentary and atmoshpere of the crowd this year.
last year Jon Champion was a pretty good edition but lawro was pretty dire, so what are the combination like this time round?
also, the atmosphere was pretty lacklustre last time round as well, no buzz like in previous PES games, ie. not much roar when a goal is scored etc.
ooh and finally can you curl the ball in play with the accuracy r2 like you could in PES6? as you couldnt in PES08 and i used to love being able to bend it into the far corner Henry-esque.

thanks,

the day the spanish commentators go 'goooaaallllllll' when you in the primera division is the day I'll use spanish commentary in spanish league - can't believe they don't have that, possibly in this one? I heard the spanish commentary was miles better

apart from that, commentary has a long way to go, I think I prefer pes6 commentary too

Jon Champion is a Setanta commentator :\ but he would need to have Craig Burley along with him to make it true Setanta;)

i think the FIFA commentary sounds real (as if you were actually watching a match, with martin tyler and andy gray cracking jokes etc).... john champion makes me whince....god help us when craig burley comes on (who knows as much about football as my nephew does!)

Out of the 4 commentators PES has had (well since PES4), I think Champion and Brooking would be the best pairing. Lawrenson just can't "act" like he's at a match when reading his lines whereas the other 3 could do that much at least. He sounds like a 5 year old reading a story out loud to his classroom at school.

Before PES2008 came out, I installed FIFA 2000 which also had Lawrenson on commentary duty and he was terrible on that too. Can remember Chris Waddle on another FIFA game (99?) and he was worse if anything. The last real footy game I played for more than a week before Pro Evo was Actua Soccer 2 and that had Barry Davies and Trevor Brooking and I thought they were quite good on that (I am going back a while though ;)).

I had all 3, hated the first one and the third too but 2 was amazing. Had good gameplay and a decent edit mode too for the time. If I remember correctly it was up against FIFA97 and was a lot better. I did like FIFA96 which was the last one to use sprites instead of 3D models. I wonder what happened to the Actua Soccer guys, would like to see what they would come up with on the Consoles and modern PC's.

Sometimes I think I should go back to PES6, extract all of Brookings dialog and replace Lawrensons with it.
