PS3 or Xbox 360?

First of all, I don't want this to turn into some big argument, just seeking some advice

Didn't know where to put this so I put it here because basically I'm in need for some hints/tips. I've had a PS2 for a good few years now & have most PES games for it (plus some of the FIFA games) and have been happy with it. But recently I've been wanting to get a next gen console, especially for the new PES (and maybe FIFA) coming out. My problem is which one to buy. Money is an issue, or more the lack of it, so obviously I'm tempted to go for Xbox. But then you have the monthly subscription for Xbox Live which in the long run balances it out. I also have a concern as to how well I'll be able to play on the Xbox as I've always been a playstation man & have only used an Xbox once or twice (that was the original Xbox). It'd be good to hear from people how have made this transition. I'd also like to know which games console PES plays betteron and which is better for editing, online leagues etc. It'd be good to hear from people how have made this transition from Plystation to Xbox & people who have PES on both platforms

So my questions are:
1. How much is Xbox Live?

2. Which console is better for online gaming?

3. Which console is better value for money?

4. How easy is it to go from Playstation to Xbox

5. Which console is better for playing football games (mainly PES)?

6. Which do you reckon I'd be better of with

Thanks in advance

I would recommend the PS3 for the following reasons:

1: you are used to playing with a PS2 so the PS3 controller would feel much more natural to you than the Xbox360 one
2: on-line being free is really a pro
3: the editing capabilities for PES 2009 seem to be better on the PS3 than on the Xbox360

The Xbox360 is cheaper, but having to pay for the on-line bit, looking at the amount of machines that fail and the fact that the PS3 also includes the blue-ray functionality made me chose for the PS3. I got it a few weeks ago and I am very, very impressed by it.

It's just an advice. People who have an Xbox360 may completely disagree with me :p

Cheers Jasperinho, I'm probably more in favour of PS3 having read some reviews/arguments between people on the internet & it does seem the better option. Although I would like to hear the Xbox side of the argument.

I used to have a PS2 for ages, then the XBOX 360 came out and i bought that and had no problem moving over, the buttons are all in the same place only difference is there called different things.

Id go for what ever your friends have really because its more fun playing against friends on the internet. As you can link up with them and play other people rather than just being on your own.

Live on the xbox is £40 a year, £35 in some shops depending on where you get it from, but my friend has had his XBOX for year and half now and hasn't bought live because everytime you buy a game they give you a month or some times 2months free on gold membership.

At the momment in time 360 is better for money, i saw in HMV on sat that 360 + fifa 09 was £140 with 60GB hard drive. Thats gatta be worth the money.

I used PS3 a couple of times, i enjoy playing on it but 360 have achievements aswell and they have brought a whole new level to gaming, you can do the story modes and everything else like you normally do on games, and you can play matches on football games and complete league but you get points for doing certain things, like winning so many matches, scoring certain types of goal that type of thing and it makes playing on games more fun and makes certain games longer trying to get the achievements.

Yeh, well the problem is my friends are pretty much split 50/50 on either console (though there are a lucky few which have both). I checked the HMV website, no sign of that offer, but I've seen these offers about in town:

Get FIFA 09 for £10 when bought with Xbox 360 - 60Gb (£169.99)

Get FIFA 09 free when bought with Playstation 3 (£299.99)

Didn't know about that free Xbox live membership when buying new games.

Back to square 1:erm:, Cheers NikWebb

Xbox 360 because:

1. Its alot cheaper.
2. Online is better IMO even though you have to pay for it but its only £30 a year.
3. The new dashboard comes out November 11th with alot more new features :D
4. Decent exclusive games.

Also i think the controller is much more easier to hold than the PS3 as it is bigger than the PS3 controller but this is just my opinion.

And when people talk about the problems 360 has, its generally only one problem with the graphics card which, microsoft arrange a UPS dude to come pick up your xbox take it away they fix it and send it back to you without you paying anything.

Great, now I've got an even harder decision.

So wait, is it £30 or £40 for Xbox Live?

This the best advice so far, and I own a 360.

Yeh, think the PS3 sounds better, just can't afford the £300 price tag. Might take a while saving

PS3 is better if you dont want to pay for an online service, like to watch Blu Ray movies and if you would like to have a media machine which is capable of doing lots of things..... HOWEVER my personal view is that the 360 is the console to have if your a serious gamer and in particular an Online Gamer... why? you get what you pay for. The amount of unplayable experiences ive had on PSN (PlayStation Network) lagging like fuck! before anyone says Saha your connection is crap ive got a 20MB Broadband Connection with Virgin that is pretty damn fast!

On Xbox Live most games ive played have been relatively smooth affairs, that and also Xbox Live Marketplace usually offers better content than PS Store and also its updated a lot sooner than PS Store....

I'd recommend Ps3 because:

The editing is easier compared to the Xbox version

You don't have to pay to play online

also if you go for the PS3 you will also have a blu ray player :D

I'm not biased because i have both and love both but the PS3 is the better console

I have to disagree with you, yes Blu Ray is brilliant but the damn movies cost too much. I mean £25 for a film? rip off. Online play as I said before is shite on the PSN. Ok the editing is easier on Pro Evo but there are lots of other decent games which are fantastic online on the 360.......

I always hear this. Online, the 360 is better than PSN in all games.
Pro eveo 09, well, it's the same on both consoles (I played both) but the editing is easier on ps3 IF YOU HAVE PHOTOSHOP FOR TRANSPARENT PNG's. My coisin who own a ps3 doesn't,so it's like he's playing the 360 versions. taking a photo and rubbing or ereasing the background, but he imports it.It's the same thing.

I own both, so my 2 penneth worth is, the 360 has more games, xbox live is good but also expensive, transition from ps2 to 360 no worries there, generally slightly cheaper for your 360 games too, 360 has to be the worst console ever made in one word the build quality is SH*T, i have owned 3 all with red lights, pretty ridiculous, they kind of have a hold on you though as most of your mates are on xbox live so you buy another, everyone i know has had issues with the console. PS3 has blu-ray, online is free, people say it's crap. i have to disagree, its free for a start all the games i've played online with have been no different to xbox live, had lagg issues with pes 08 but that was konami not the PS3, much better build quality than the 360, downsides, controller is crap compared to the 360, generally more expensive option than 360. For me it boils down to Cost Vs Quality. 360 is cheap but you get what you pay for, PS3 is better build but far more expensive, if you can afford it and the games go PS3 if your on a budget 360 is defo your answer.

Well Thanks for your answers everyone. I'm pleased to announce I went with the PS3 and have so far been very impressed and feel I've made the right decision. Graphics are great and the PS Store is full of good demos. Shame there is no add-ons for PES.

Downside, after forking out £300 I only have the 1 game (PES 2009 of course) and God knows when I'll get another. Anyone know anything about a Virtua Tennis 4 I've played the full game of VT3 at a mates and have the demo for it & enjoy it, but don't want to buy the old game if a new one is coming out.

PS - sorry, I know I'm going a bit off topic

Thanks again everone!!

yea i agree you made the right choice the ps3 is far better built than the 360 allthough i cannot really comment on the online aspect of it as im not genrally an online gamer.

But as the ps3 has the free online (wireless), automatic updates, blu-ray player and lots of add-on peripherals like freeveiw boxes and neon light type things, i know is bit pointless but its a good overall package

It does seem that quantity (xbox) over quality (ps3) fits in with tthe games, how much longer can the 360 put in the same amount of content using DVD's, as the PS3 can put on a blu-ray, seems the 360 wanted to be the first (quick an cheap current technology) buh ps3 wanted to be the last (future proof gaming system) that will outlast the 360

oh and i know blu-ray is expensive now but not gonna be like it forever remember, DVD's used to be like £25 each same as blu-rays now buh the more that are bought an more time passes the cheaper they'll get
