Is the Coaching manual and DVD worth buying? I am sick of not doing very well and wondered if it will help me.

I am playing on the level below the top, Professional i believe as i played a league on Regular and managed to win it all be it only just so i put it up to the next level where i am really struggling to be honest and i have no consistency what so ever and it is getting so fucking frustrating and the controller has nearly been launched a number of times:realmad::no:

Any help would be great as i really enjoyed PES 2008 but am getting fed up with the new, i know before anyone says anything that it is only because i haven't quite got to grips with it yet. i don't mind losing by any means but to lose or draw every game gets a bit boring after a while!!!!

i havent seen this years manual but i had it for 2008.
basically it teaches you all the tricks and ball control stuff you want to know aswell as the best formations for some of the bigger teams.i think it also had a bit about good new players.i would imagine its pretty much the same this year.
however i did find it quite useful, especially playing against my mate.it can be a bit time consuming learning alot of the moves but it does help.so id say get it,it should help u against the computer and its guaranteed to piss off your mates:D

i got the book & dvd last year, and found it to be pointless... sure there were 1 or 2 little tidbits in there that helped, but overall its just a rehash of the manual

The guides I think are worth buying once if you have never bought one before. Even if they don't provide any real secrets, they do get you thinking about the game. I guess what I found most helpful when I bought one, was that it helped me to know that there WASN'T anything I was really missing. Only over time do you eventually come to grips with a new version, or at least that's my experience.

By the way, it's this yearly pain and suffering (i.e. challenge) to get good at the new version that keeps me coming back to the series every year.

I'm with you. I had, well downloaded the book and DVD for last years pro and found it pointless.

A lot better if you learn things on your own, much more fun that way.

Depends on how well u know the game. I have been playing the game for 8 years now and so for me, the Guide wasn't a great deal of use although there are the odd usefull tid-bit in there.

As a product overall though, I dont rate it. There are even useful techniques that are really helpful to know that this book totally omits to mention.

I felt it was always more fun and worthwhile to grind out the learning curve of the game. It always is quite hard to pick up, but like MatCat, ive been playing the game for quite a while now and I always seem to pick it up after hours of master league.

I play on pro level too, i have changed my movement from the analog stick to the D pad. I must say what a difference it has made. The game is just so much better to play, so i would start there.:)

One thing I forgot to mention that is useful about the guides is the explanations of the attributes and special skills. A lot of people seem to misunderstand what these do, and I guess that's one of the things I found most useful from having bought the guide once. Things like, for example, the fact that the dribbling special skill won't help you at all if it's your own player (CPU player with this will behave differently though). As for improving your play, I agree that playing more helps the most, but some of the tactical suggestions they make in the guides, like turning your Side backs into CBs is helpful for beginners as well.

Turning your SBs to CBs?! HOW?! Haha. Seriously... I want to know. Sometimes I feel they shouldn't even run up and act as wingers and it leaves my side defence wide open for a follow up.
