HDMI Cable Weirdness!!

OK guys – here’s a weird one for you to mull over. Since the PS3 update and the PES 1.20 update, my PES 2009 has been playing much faster and looks and feels like 2008 version. I have read on lots of forums that many people have expressed similar changes to the game (I myself have posted about this before). There are also lots of you out there who haven’t experienced anything at all.

So fed up and annoyed with the 2009 I went into GAME to get PES 4 for the PS2 to play on my PS3. However I was informed that because of backward compatibility issues I couldn’t. Dejected I settled for a HDMI cable instead (it was in the sale).

Here’s where it get’s weird. I went home and connected the PS3 to the TV with the new HDMI. I popped in PES 2009 and as expected the graphics and clarity were far better than the red, yellow and white connectors. However when I started to play, the game speed had slowed down and it played and felt like 2009 BEFORE the various updates??!! I thought at first that I was obviously imagining it, so played several more games and it was great! It felt back to normal and not like 2008 at all. The ultimate test I thought was to take out the HDMI cable for the original red, yellow and white connector thing. Low and behold – game was much, much faster and was playing like 2008 again. HDMI back in and slower, better 2009 re-appeared...............???

Now I’m not technically minded at all, but wondered if you guys out there that were, could explain?!?! Could the update have been geared towards HD or something? What is the explanation?

It may be an effect of the ghosting created by SD scale-up to high resolution screen that gave the speed effect. Additional clarity and 100% utilisation of screens pixels may account for the 'slower' (read defined) image.

dude i really think you're onto something here!

cos i was like quite a lot of u guys: when i updated my game to the new version, the gameplay felt as if it had reverted to the pes 2008 version (quicker)

at first i thought it was my imagination till i saw a lot of other people having the same problem on forums and realised it can just be my imagination.

so here's what happened today. usually when im done playing ps3, i turn my tv off first then put off the powerplug switch. today by accident i turned off the power plug switch even though my tv was still on...

but this must have reset something! cos when i played pes2009 the next time, the gameplay had gone back to how it was in the original pes2009. i think what happened when i turned off the power plug while the tv was on must have been the same effect as you swapping from HDMI to red/white/yellow then back to HDMI again. basically reset the connection and reverted it back to the original setting.

shit dude i think we're really onto something here. been struggling for ages wondering whether it had just been my imagination or not.

reminds me of a time i went it to Currys to buy the cable and when i asked the store person looked at me really strange then i suddenly realised i accidentaly said HIV cable!

we both laughed at my mistake and he went on to explain that he was actually HIV positive!! which made me feel so much better and not embarressed!

If anyone else on the forum wrote that, I would've believed them.

Say no more... >_>

Maybe it's your eyesight...I fail to see how a HDMI cable can affect the gameplay of pro evolution, hell, not even the developers seem to be able to change the gameplay of it :ninja:
