Not sure what you want to see with the game play for PES, its kinda easy to say its crap or broken but you haven't said what about it is wrong or how to improve it? I mean personally I think that the models for the players is more realistic in PES than FIFA, you can really tell that in FIFA there is that skeleton which they have made the 3d models from and the body is very badly modeled round it. At least with PES it feels like there is a real player on the pitch not just a stick man with some flesh! Anyway if you really want to suggest a constructive change then do it but I think perhaps fleshing out your beef is more helpful. Compare PES2009 with PES4 or 5, there a lot less frustrating and lot more realistic in many ways. Sure PES isn't all we could dream about it but then again it is a game after all and not real football. If you want the real stuff get outside and have a kick about!
Well said. My case, sadly, is that I used to play but I'm now past my prime and have been injured for over 3 years and unable to play. PES is my only outlet, so maybe that's why I sometimes take it too seriously...
You're right though in that it is really rare to see people make any sort of suggestion for change beyond "I don't like it! Fix it!"
One thing which I think needs to be redesined is the tackling system. In past years I think it was far too easy to barge in and use the single player or double player tackle to strip the ball away (though it was also fun!). I would say that's one of the things they have made some good improvements on in 09, but at least to some degree the tackling system now feels "caged." By that I mean that there is, in some situations, a bit of an invisible barrier between the player you control and the player you are trying to tackle. This is subtle, but I think most people will know what I'm talking about. In fact, I find that sometimes I can't tackle a player who I want to try to take the ball from, so I resort to using the super cancel so that I'm "allowed" to close the player down and try to steal the ball. It's as if Konami have tried to fix the problem by partially scripting your player's movement during tackling attempts. In the grand scheme of things this is an improvement for the game in general, but I think they have a long way to go in order to get it right.
What they need to maybe do is encourage defensive jockeying (waiting for the offensive player to make their move) rather than charging in (or rather charging in only at the right moment). This is what your coach teaches you to do when you are a young player, after all. One way of implementing this would be instead of adjusting the tackling system, adjust the dribble so that if a player charges in at you it is easier to respond and evade their clumsy challenge. This would make the game more fun for attackers as well as defenders. They have tried to do this in this years game I think, but, at least for me, it doesn't seem to work as well as I would like... Maybe I'm just not good enough at dribbling though???
