Including RPG elements in BAL

It would perhaps be interesting to include a general "experience points" in to the BAL mode, as exist in many RPG games like Diablo.

For example, each time you play a match, you receive experience points. How much you receive would depend on factors such as:
-the importance of the match (Champions League matches and cup finals would give more than domestic exhibitions)
-how well you played (match rating etc)
-how long you played (substitutes receive only a fraction of the experience points)
-etc.

These points could then be accumulated to unlock special abilities like "DF positioning" or "playmaking", just as you would acquire new skills in RPG's.

I believe this would put PES in a whole new light and genre. It would be a fusion of RPG and football. Also, online playability would virtually make PES a MMORPG.

It would make the game appeal to a whole new audience, and thus a whole new market. The games sales may sky rocket, as the RPG and MMORPG markets are lucrative.

If by any chance a Konami representative reads this and likes the idea, I can discuss further in detail. I would be happy to assist further.

I am looking for a job.

This is by far one of the most interesting ideas I have read. It has a lot of potential in my opinion.

I dont agree, its a football game, lets keep it this way, focus on gameplay and not trying to change the game to a new type. What makes PES a serious game is that it isnt like some other football games where you buy new stadiums and pick the price of tickets or spend your eranings as a player. Konami would be laughed at for attempting to go down this route. In real life a player doesnt just buy new skill, he trains and practices for it and even then certain skills are limited to some players, playmakers dont usually acquire that ability when there 25-26, they grow up playing that way.

Well, to be honest, I'm sure a large portion of PES fans would love the option to manage things like increasing stadium capacity, setting ticket prices etc. to make it even more realistic.

Sure, no-one would want the gameplay to be sacrified, but if stuff was added along these lines, I wouldn't complain.

And maybe you could walk around on a little map, visit football towns, buy new shoes, save the football kingdom, and rescue princess Victoria Beckham.

this is already in the game. you will notice when you finish a match you get two sets of stats. one is pink and one is green i think. one is determined by your own player graph and how well you played, the other is influenced by the importance of the match.

at least this is what the instructions suggest but in practise probably hasn't been coded in. i did notice when i played a cup final i didn't seem to gain any more exp than i usually did, but in theory thats how they presented it. altho the unlocking of abilities would be good.

Good ideas. I find it silly how atm you just reach a certain stat point and you automatically receive a special ability. Needs to be a better way to implement them.

Hi,

Thanks for all the comments. Now I shall reply.

I dont agree, its a football game, lets keep it this way, focus on gameplay and not trying to change the game to a new type.

Firstly, I would like to clarify that gameplay and online modes are much more important to me than my suggestion here. I am sure no true PES player could disagree today.

Having said that, I believe you perhaps fail to see the potential of the idea. I personally predict (based on my observation on the growth of bandwidth) that within the next 2-3 installments, 10 vs 10 will become very popular. The highlight will be to play with your own BAL player in online leagues, looking for better online teams to play for, just as a professional football player would. That gives Konami about 2 games to perfect the offline BAL mode. They have to make it as addictive and fun as possible. It is in the nature of MMORPG's to be addictive, so Konami might study them and learn what exactly makes it so popular, and then bring those features into BAL, and later online Legends mode.

This will stabilize the PES series again financially, as at the moment the competition is overwhelming. I am worried that if they do not offer unique features, together with correcting the gameplay, the PES series may come to an end.

This is how much I care about the game.

And maybe you could walk around on a little map, visit football towns, buy new shoes, save the football kingdom, and rescue princess Victoria Beckham.

This really is not what I have in mind.

What I do have in mind is you create a BAL player, go online and join the "Konami Transfer Market". Other players, who created online teams, will scout and transfer you. You will play in online leagues and tournaments. You improve yourself and gain recognition. As your profile rises you get offers from more prestigious online teams and perhaps get called for national tournaments, or enter a PES Legends World Cup to represent your country at the World Cyber Games or equivalent.

All this could be possible within perhaps the next 2-3 generations of PES, if Konami lay the seeds for it in the BAL mode today.

Moneygeddon getting to you Kubi?

Yes.

this is already in the game. you will notice when you finish a match you get two sets of stats.

The experience points I suggested would be seperate from the gained stat points after every match. Think of the stats (attack, defence, shot accuracy, speed etc) and special abilities (playmaking, DF leader etc) seperately.

My idea is, after a match you get extra stat points that increase your stats as it is now in BAL, but also seperate experience points which you can invest in tailoring the role of your player by unlocking special abilities.

Good ideas. I find it silly how atm you just reach a certain stat point and you automatically receive a special ability. Needs to be a better way to implement them.

Yes. It should be the other way around. I mean, if you unlock for example the passing special ability, one should get more stat points for passing speed and accuracy after every match, not vice versa as it is now. This way one can shape the career of a BAL player, and train him for the online competitions (as my fantasy description above).

Thank you all for putting your brains in my idea.

I have read through the inital idea that you put forward and your replies to some things as well. Now, I like the general idea of what your putting forward but I am not a fan of how you propose to implement them. I think that special abilities should come from development of a player. So showing in the game that your an accurate passer or a good accurate shooter on goal should be reflected in your stats. Now in reality people don't suddenly get labeled with special abilities from thin air! Its something that they work on in training and develop themselves in matches as well as on the training park. I mean this is true of taking corners and free kicks as well as many other aspects of a players game. I think that unlocking an ability should reinforce how good a player is at a certain thing. I think perhaps the stats that you gain should be more reflective and take in other things such as type of game, coming on from the bench, personal performance, condition of the player etc. I feel that training specifically on certain aspects of a players game would also be a good feature. So the general idea I do like but how your going about it I don't think is right and definately not when you compare it to an RPG! Keep PES to the good game it is... Football!
