Do you guys think that i should already have a small edit saved to my HDD before i do the switch? Or will this mess things up? Any input appreciated.

I'm answering my own question but it could be helpful to someone.

Yes

I saved an edit file but hadn't actually done any editing. Then later copied over this file.

The answer could also be no, but i haven't tried that way ;)
