I am not sure what the general feeling is on crossing. But for me this is what truely killed my love for PES.
Ever since PES 2008 - Konami's first attempt on the XBOX 360 crosses seem to land on the strikers head, foot or anything, and the keeper is always left floundering, very rarely keeping the ball out.
This for me drowned any sort of challenge as it has been the case all the way up to pes 2010, finding myself thumping the AI with the majority of goals coming from crosses. Even crosses by Valeny were done in a Beckham like fashion, and no matter who was on the end of it would always finish it like a world class striker.
I have since seen a video of pes 2011 showing footage at gamescom and it looked awesome, but the one thing that stood out was a charge down the right, cross, and then a thunderbolt volley into the net. The same animations and look that could be traced back to 2008.
Obviously crosses are a pivotal part of the game, but PES6 and before balanced these out beautifully making them a real challenge.
