How can I make the wing backs join in the attacks up the wings. I am a noob to the game and noticed sometimes they will run up the wings but sometimes not!! I mainly play as chelsea. I did notice on the game plan option there is a menu to adjust this but I wasn't sure how much to adjust, can anybody help?? Also how can I make the central defenders not run out of position? I have noticed John Terry and Alex come up attacking from time to time!! Oh I play on xbox. Thanks

On the team style tab under gameplan the top slider is player support, if you have this high around 18-20 accustomed with the attacking style low about 2-5 will make you use the wings more pushing Full Backs up the pitch while attacking.

As for CBs you may have them joining the attack under the Set Piece tab, it's right at the bottom under PK taker, making you able to push CBs up on corners and Freekick, but this can also make them come up during open play which sometimes leaves you short at the back, I only have 1 CB coming up on corners.

While playing you could also use the teamstyle "POS DEF" which usually keeps your defenders back but this might make your Fullbacks(SB) stay back as well.

Hope this helps.

You could just turn on 'CB Overlap' which makes only one of your CBs join the attack. For you it's probably better to set them manually in-game.

As for the OP I'd say go to the set-piece settings, as already mentioned, go to the bottom and choose which defenders are to join the attacks. You can select all your defenders if you feel like it so you just need to make sure your two full-backs are selected to join attacks before you start your games.

If you want the wing backs to attack more, you've got three options in my opinion.

1. Move the wing backs up the pitch in the tactics screen, placement of players can considerably change the way your team plays.

2. Check to see what mentality your wing backs have. Are they defensive minded? Balanced? Offensive? If they are defensive they will sit back, offensive minded will always look to push forward, and balanced is balanced. If you need to play a defensive game to avoid defeat put in wingbacks who are more defensive minded. This can make a rather large difference in the way your team plays (this also applies to the problem you are having with your CBs)

3. As already mentioned, change the team style slider for player support to 20. However let me make a point. If you have your player support to 20 offensive, this only changes the entire team as a whole. Now let's imagine each individual has their own built in player support slider. If you have your team player support set at 15, a central midfielder with balanced mentality will have a player support of 15, if you changed your team to 20, the CMF will go to about 18-20. But for a sideback/wingback, if your team is set at 15 he may personally be set at 8-10 depending on his mentality, if you move the team support to 20, his personal team support may go to around 15.

This prevents every single player on your squad from charging the box, which allows you to maintain some formation shape and discipline. If you really want all your player to charge the box, use the All Out Attack tactic with full attack emphasis (little colored bar), even then some players will tend to stay back more than others.

Hope this helps.

I don't understand how setting player support to 20 would be effective in getting your wing-backs up the pitch, your whole team ends up going forward which basically defeats the purpose of your wing-backs bursting down the flanks. Surely if you must fiddle with the team style then changing attacking style to 'wide' would be more beneficial if you're looking for your wing-backs to make runs down the flanks.

I don't recommend that though, best thing to do is just set which defenders attack in set-piece settings imo.

Increasing your attack style to out wide has little effect on sidebacks and wingbacks. Only useful for pushed up SMFs and WFs, and even then I hardly notice a difference. I mean if you have wide players, they will play wide and run the wings even if you have attack style set to 0 (narrow/through the middle)

Then add in the other slider for support of man in possession and you throw a monkey wrench into the equation. If you tell your players to attack wide, but tell them to come in close for support, then what have you accomplished?

I think the whole tactic thing needs worked by Konami. I imagine a lot of sliders get lost in translation (my above instance for example). Some tactics have an effect, while others are obscure. To be honest I run almost all my sliders at 10
