Portal 2 [PC/Mac/360/PS3]

- Portal was a 'trial'. Size and assets specifically kept minimal. Had no idea it would be this popular.
- Portal was a 'test bed', Portal 2 is a 'game'.
- GlaDOS returns as the antagonist.
- Chell returns, and we play as her.
- Portal 2 takes place a long time after the original. Hundreds of years, in fact. The complex has overgrown.
- Those orbs seen at the end of Portal are personality orbs. They've cornered off sections of the labs as their own, and are concerned about the decaying state of the complex.
- Portal gun remains unchanged.
- Physics will now be part of portal puzzle solving. EG: A vent that sucks air in can be combined with a portal to 'suck' from a different location.
- "Paint" mechanic, various liquid substances that cause some reaction. For example, in the demo shown a orange substance on the floor caused Chell to be propelled upwards. Using portals you can apply these 'paints' to other areas of the level for puzzle solving.
- Reflection cubes will allow Chell to reflect lazers for various puzzles.
- The co-op campaign will have you playing as two bipedal robots. The like to hold hands.
- Splitscreen for people playing on the console, and 'picture in picture' available for those playing remote co-op (eg: PC). This allows you to easily communicate with the other player and combine efforts for puzzle solving.

I love Valve games, but they make me dizzy. The only FPSs that do so too. Not sure if I'd pay full-price for this either way.

They need to announced episode 3 already!

PORTAL 2 PLAYSTATION 3 STEAM FEATURES REVEALED

January 18, 2011 -- Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the Steam features shipping with the PlayStation 3 (PS3) version of Portal 2.

Marking the debut of Steam functioning on any next generation console, the features shipping in the PS3 version of Portal 2 include cross platform play (PC/Mac vs. PS3) for multiplayer games, persistent cloud-based storage of PS3 saved games, and cross platform chat (PC/Mac and PS3).

In addition, those who purchase Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 may unlock a Steam Play (PC & Mac) copy of Portal 2 at no additional cost by linking their PSN and Steam accounts.

"We made a promise to gamers at E3 that Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 would be the best console version of the product," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "Working together with Sony we have identified a set of features we believe are very compelling to gamers. We hope to expand upon the foundation being laid in Portal 2 with more Steam features and functionality in DLC and future content releases."

"We designed the Portal 2 PS3 experience to be very straightforward for gamers," said Josh Weier, project lead on Portal 2 at Valve. "PS3 gamers will be able to simply drop the Blu-Ray disc in the PS3, link to their Steam account from inside the game, and all their Steam friends (on PC and Mac) will be visible and accessible for chat and game invites."

These features are made possible thru the use of Steam, Valve's platform for the delivery and management of games and digital content.

Portal 2 is due for release on the PlayStation 3, PC, Mac and Xbox 360 this April.

Has there been any more info/trailers for this in the past 2 months? It's out in 3 weeks but I haven't really heard much about it for a while.

Just me and possibly Andy getting this game? I thought there would have been more interest in this considering how great the first was. IMDB credits Stephen Merchant and J.K. Simmons as voice actors in the game. It'll be interesting to see how they fit a Wurzel into the game.

IGN - 9.5/10

Seems like it'll be good.

I haven't played the 1st game, but I may be tempted by this one. One of the things I was worried about was whether it'd be worth the money. But it seems like they have a single player mode that's a decent length, and the coop mode sounds good too.

Finished the first game today and I quite enjoyed it - I'm surprised by how popular it is considering it's essentially a puzzle game.

Might get the second one, not too sure.

Well I bought it on saturday and completed it yesterday. Good game I thought, different tone completely but I'm still a tad unsure how it's getting perfect scores across the board.

What would you say were the negatives in the game? I'm up to about 14/22 on The Return at the moment and am taking it slowly. I really want to try out the co-op but the bastard PSN is still down which is a disgrace. Thank fuck I haven't paid for PSN plus.

I think the game is a victim of its own hype to some extent. It's a good quirky game but I don't quite understand why its got a Metacritic score in the high 90s.

For me, the difficulty never really went too far beyond mildly taxing. Similarly the length of the game didn't really feel as if it warranted the £40 price tag. Then again I haven't had the chance to take it online with the PSN debacle.

It's a solid 8/10 game but I can't help but feel that it's benefiting from being a slightly innovative game in a sea of COD clones.

I think that's exactly the reason. I haven't been caught up in any hype over the game though as I don't visit many gaming sites and there's been barely any interest on here. I've seen a lot more hype over games like LA Noire and Mortal Kombat or Battlefield 3.

I mainly go on reddit and they were really fired up over it, perfect demographic I guess.

Also Valve had this "Alternate reality game" in the build up to Portal 2 where people could do certain tasks and get new clues relating to the game itself. Eventually they were told that if they completed loads of random tasks then they might get the game released early.

Overall it was a very convoluted task where people had to buy other Steam games which ultimately didn't alter the release date by much. In doing so they pissed off the majority of their most loyal customers and generally confused everyone else that wasn't involved enough to care.

Reached the start of Chapter 3 last night, and quit due to making me feel a bit nauseous. Might have just been unwell as Valve games haven't given me motion sickness in the past.

Latest rumour is apparently there was a hack where people could add fake funds to their PSN account and 'buy' (steal) content from the store. It's nearly been a fucking week though.
