Questions from a (possibly) returning player

Hi all,
I've played PES up to 08 version, then went to Fifa for various reasons. This year, the demo from Konami really got me hooked and I may buy the game this year. I have som questions that may clear things up a bit for me and maybe others who thinking about returning.

This may be a many questions, but I hope I got some of the answeard.

*How does the game play online? Fifa really feels scripted sometimes. In the 45th and 90th minute for example, the defence and keeper turn to s***. Some may blame something called handicap, some momentum etc. For me, I just feel that somethings there, whatever it is. This apply mainly to the Ultimate Team mode. Does PES have anything like this? And discussion on the matter in the community? (EA banned people writing about it on the forums after they promised to answear questions about scripting/momentum/handicap in a sticky, which they never did. They deleted the thread and banned people from ever mention the matter again)

*Are the matches different when playing online? With that I mean if every game feels totally different from the other? The way people score goals etc. In Fifa, there is possible 90% of cutbacks and finesse shots (which is way owerpowered in that game). I always had the feeling PES seems more "free" and anything can happen, any ball can struggle it's way in to the goal.

*Are players unique? I mean, Ronaldo, Nani, Messi can do tricks no-one else can? The likes of Rooney, can he pull of the most advance skills as Ronaldo? Or does the game have some skill system in the likes of Fifa? (For example, Ronaldo got *5 skills in Fifa and Rooney got *3, which means Ronaldo can pull of more advance tricks)

*How is the skill system? Is it a great variety for skills? I really enjoy pulling of skills during the games.

*The tactical aspect of the game, can one make a tactic for possesion gameplay and one for counter attack? If so, does it really feel any different? In short, can you set up the team as you want and really play the style you want? Is it more deep then Fifa in the tactical region of the game?

*Doe's player got "traits"? As in Fifa some players have playmaker trait, some longshot taker etc.

*Master League: Is it anything like Ultimate Team? Is it real players in it? If someone explained it a bit I would be greatful. How one buy players, is there chemistry etc.

*The servers, are they working most of the time? Lag when playing online?

Many of the questions refer to Fifa, but thats mainly cos that's what we have to compare with.

You know most of this you can find out in the demo you played, such as.

Player Traits - Yes
Tactics - Yes
Unique Players - Yes
Skill System - Yes but it is much more difficult than Fifa, Almost pointlessly so IMO.

Master League, Unless it has changed, Is kind of a mix between career mode and Ultimate team. You can start as a Proper team with proper squads or you can choose the crappy team and totally build your team from unknowns, so to speakm To World class stars. When you play a game you earn money and obviously the result factors in to amount per game and with this money you can search the market for players you want to add.

As for online, couldn't say as I haven't played a PES game for longer than you.

I'm sure I read somewhere that this year there is a option to pick opponents by similar ranked teams, so hopefully this wont be a issue any more

Ok let me tell you this. Online sucks in every game that has competition involving different ranked stuff. In this case teams.

So I don't think it fair to compare online experience oter than smoothness of the servers. oh and BTW, LAG will happen in ever online game. I's un avoidable. That said, I never play online because of what I mentioned above.

Anyway before I answer a few questions, I also want to tell you this. Both Pes and Fifa have stupid flaws. With Pes, they are appearant at first glance, Fifa's are more hidden (but annoying as hell).

Tactics. Well, in my eyes, they work way better in Pes, because Pes does have variation in Gameplay. Fifa doesn't have that much depth because every team can play the same way. Pes 13 especially enhanced this. I normally play with Juve on the demo and they play exactly like their real life counterparts. Then when you switch to Bayern, the difference is notable from the get go. They play differently. This comes down to different tactics and different players.

Individuality. Pes 13 introduced something that does't only have a name, but something that is actually there. Player ID. Basically this ensures that good players will play exactly like their real life counterparts, meaning Pirlo for example, when AI controlled especially, will always try to attempt that special through pass and he's also superb in close control and an expert in not giving the ball away. C.Ronaldo will always try to shoot and dribble his way though fo exmaple.

Now when you play with them yourself, if you try to imitate the way they play in real life, you'll notice that it becomes easier to do stuff with that that you find harder to do with other players. So individuality is without a doubt better than Fifa's.

Fifa 13's career mode sounds fantastic, but what I hope is for them to remove super scripted stuff in there. You'll know what I am talking about if you played Fifa 12's career. On the other hand, master league isn't as "realistic" as career mode in terms of presentation, and licenses.

Overall feel. Some may experience annoyances in Pes at first glance because of the awful animations when compared to Fifa's silky smooth animations.

So all in all, it's a matter of visual preference over depth or vice versa. In my eyes, Pes' gameplay offers way more depth, but lacks that visual appeal that Fifa has (no, not graphics, but animations and presentation as well as licenses). Graphically both are good. Fifa has great looking stadiums, but Pes has way better player faces and way more preset ones.

Sup Possibly returning player,

The answer is pretty simple. Buy PES 2013 this year and see it meets any of your demands.

It is also a plus that you have played Fifa and can compare the pros and cons of both games.

But please bear in mind that PES is not what it once was.. and this maybe the reason you switched to Fifa.

Above, there is a honest post about online...Barca vs Real Madrid all the time and for me PES is a lagfest, but i live in the US.

Fifa online is not great ..but is miles ahead of PES....and don't listen to Shaun7, online does not suck in every game that has competition....only PES as far as I know....and

Apart from how CR9 runs, all the players play the same in PES. There is no individuality whatsoever. No matter what team you choose ..passes are always on point. This year it is hard to miss a shot on goal from any angle or distance with any player. Run pass shoot ..:w00t...back passes not needed either in PES.

I have not seen any data on online for PES2013 as yet...but i dont expect much difference.

Basically, PES 2013 demo looks a lot better that the previous releases but i have also seen the Fifa 13 Gamescon gameplay.......and believe me, PES is going down big time this year.

..still hands on is always the best way to decide.. I am sure it will not take you anytime to see why Fifa has obliterated PES for the past umpteen years

Play both demos!

peace

The most anoying part is that you have to play online to get any PES points so you can buy every classic player + teams + kits + balls etc.

Myself doesn't like todays football in general like I did in the past. Therefore I am creating over almost every team/player in the game with classic stuff.

This is why I love PES and forbid me but licenses is not always good when this is the case.

But what I wanted to say is that online sucks with default rosters and chicken peaople who always chooses the same team like Barca & Real. Even if I choose one of those teams the other player chooses the same team for god sake:realmad:

To get online playing fun for me and not only necessary to get PES points people need to be more opened minded regarding teams and for god sake Konami, let us use our own optionfile so it gets funny. I don't even care if someone puts together a line-up with only 90+ overall players when I am putting my classic Flamengo on the pitch!

Thanks for listening to my frustration guys!

Yes I know. But in 2012 you got 10 points/game offline & 50 points/game online.

So it makes big difference, my friend!

Well yes, but unless you're on PS3 or Xbox (which apparently you're not) there are different cheats for PC and other cool stuff you can use to unlock everything.

There must be something for consoles too...

I'm on PS3 and it would be awesome if I just could unlock everything so I could start editing immediately instead of playing online.

Hope someone could work something out. + a tool to get every preset face in PES2013 from the past versions...:)

Thanks for all the answears so far! I'll guess it will be more fair when Fifa 13 demo comes out, so one can compare the gameplay. Though I really like PES demo so far.

I believe you didn't get my message or you chose to ignore it ;)

I never said online sucks without giving my reasons. I said online sucks when there are different ranked stuff in there. Why? Because the noobs who want to feel great just pick up the most overpowered stuff and do an cheap tactic to win and every game has a cheap tactic. In fifa it's to use a speeds but strong player, run down the wing, square + X and a 90 degree turn, finesse to top corner.

Anyway, the point is that when you have a game that in this case has different ranked teams, many players would pick up the best team to ensure a win. In shooters, everyone plays with the 1 OP gun for example. That was my point on why online vs matches sucks in these kind of games.

If you live in uk and have a good solid tinternet connection, You wont have much lag at all. Pes 2011 was wank online with lag and unplayable. 12 was very solid for me and much better to play online, Im expecting slight improvements in 13!. As regards to online gameplay, Its MUCH better than fifa, Fifa's a harrassed piece of crap where you dont have time on the ball with cocks doing pressing tactics all the time. I find pes online to be a tad slower

Correction, online sucks because it's human nature to fuck up everything they possibly can when given the opportunity. That's why online gaming sucks in general.

I only play PES last year for MLO, I loved it, the online was much better than 11. Hopefully it will improve this year aswell, and there will be less flaws people can utilise to win games cheaply.

It's usually not the game that ruins peoples experiences when playing online, it's the community (usually kids/younger people aswell)

People on Pes 12 will abuse the speed team presets with speed merchant wingers and sprint down the wing and pass the ball to a CF who can score into a near open net, just as people abused the Akimbo secondary's in MW3 and just like people abused wall hacks and out of map glitches in quake years ago.

Some people don't mind winning by playing cheaply and cheating, they are what spoils online gaming.

Have truer words ever been spoken :D

Question: Is MLO exactly the same as offline ML, But Just online, or is there something else to it ?

I have only ever played ML of old.

I didn't play enough of the ML in 11/12 to comment I'm afraid. The current MLO is very enjoyable though, you have a ranking number which determines which league you are in (this gets updated weekly) Contracts have to be paid and can be lengthened by 10 matches, 20 matches or 50 matches, obviously 50 matches gives you the best value for money.

Players form is where I think it's most different on MLO, everyones form in the game changes together I believe, so a player goes from red to orange to green to blue to grey and back up - the more people who own a player determines the value of the player, so players are usually most expensive when they are in top form, players with a higher form rating stay at the higher end of the form cycle for longer.

I haven't played standard ML at all really on pes12 due to the enjoyment I got from MLO, the games are great fun, aside from the abusers of game flaws mentioned above.

Try it :)

That's the most retarded thing i have heard in my entire life.

So let me get this.....you get a chance to choose any team you like and you chose a shit team, your opponent chooses a team with a speed merchant and kicks your biach arsse......AND ITS HIS FAULT. :w00t

So why the furck didn't you choose the team with the speed merchant? Are you retarded? :shocking:

Well you may very well be ....or maybe you are living too close to a nuclear plant.

Turns out... it is really the fault of the game itself. PES Poor design leads to stuff like this....and many more

The online result....Barca vs Real Madrid 99% of the time.

You will need a speed demon to compete online ...and unfortunately they are only on those two teams. Guess who they are?

This does not happen in Fifa online! Guess why
