Fuck that shit, Ali. Just play career. I've been using these settings and am getting some realism and enjoyment out of it.

I might give that a go, but is it so much to ask for a nice honest online contest against a fellow football fan? Every game is against some "run straight from kickoff" twat. The match I had yesterday, the guy just ran straight up with Aubameyang and my defenders just bounced off him (including Ashley Williams, who you would've thought could outstrength him). It's just so frustrating when I actually have to work for my goals, and the opposition just does that straight from kickoff and manages to get a cheap pen/free kick (which never seems to happen for me!). Sure I could alter my play style to play more twattish, but I just don't have it in me.

Ali, I know it's a long shot, but have you ever considered that maybe, just maybe, you're shit at FIFA?

I'm not shit per se (well... I'm shit at defending, I will admit that), but I'm not good at playing Fifa the way it's "supposed" to be played.

In Fifa 14 I beat someone (can't remember the score), but afterwards he messaged me and called me a "Barca fag". I was a bit confused, considering I've never once picked them online, so I messaged him back. He then responded with a big rant complaining that I played possession football and that's not the way Fifa is supposed to be played.

My record in regular seasons does tend to be a lot better than in FUT, because you don't tend to come across the pace abusers as often.

I was only saying it in jest anyway mate ;)

I admit i'm shit at FIFA. I can barely dribble the ball and defending is not my strong point. However I have started playing the game rather slowly in FIFA 15, passing the ball around a lot more and not trying to run past people (because I can't dribble) and i've found a lot of success in this especially because most people play the "get the ball and run" style of play.

You just need to drop back a bit from the start. It is hard to stop, but it's not impossible. Maybe you should pick a defensive position in clubs and get better at defending? :joel:

I haven't played Lone Seasons yet, but I play Co-op. I try to run through their defence from the start if a bullshit goal happens against us. Sometimes you gotta respond to bullshit with bullshit. Otherwise you're just trying to be high and mighty and in the end that's just bullshit anyway.

I did play right back the other day and didn't play too badly... though I don't think the opposition was that great.

Nah, it's not "high and mighty", I just don't like playing that way. Never have.

Neither do I. But to beat a cunt, you must become a cunt. Otherwise you just become a John Cena type of guy and in the end, he's still a cunt. So either way you are going to be a cunt. Be a cunt that wins, rather than a cunt that loses.

Actually really enjoyed this game tonight rather than the mild amusement it was giving from playing coop. Really rusty at first but unbelievably started being deadly in front of goal. PES is so much more enjoyable though and I've only played the demo.

I was getting very frustrated playing offline on World Class so I switched to Professional (1 level easier)

Its too easy at this level but here is my gripe. All the bullshit CPU cheating disappears, so its not a matter of the game being easier per se, its a matter of the AI not making you MESS UP on purpose

-No more silly touches in the box, players can actually control the ball
-you can pass the ball into empty space without a CPU defender reacting to it with omnipotence
-gone is the situation where my CB always left the line via AI and challenged for the ball only to allow a big gap for the through ball. This means instead of the CPU attackers just being dumber on Professional level, it is actually that at World Class level my own AI defenders act more stupid to allow the CPU attackers free run into the area. This really bothers me. The difficulty levels should not be set so my players play worse per level up it should be that the CPU plays better on more difficult levels.

Pro level is just too easy to win the ball; but World Class level is like playing poker against a stacked deck with my own AI getting easier for the CPU to beat it.

Finally, the ball doesn't automatically find the CPU after a deflection via travelling 30yrds on Professional level like it does World Class.

EA have it so wrong

I've started a career on legendary with Bolton, and the opposition AI is ridiculous at times. I don't think I've ever seen them shoot from outside the box, they just try to walk it in. Plus at times it seems like there's some sort of forcefield around the players which prevents you from tackling them.

Yeah I've had to mess around with the sliders quite a bit to try and get it at a good, fair level. The point Iron made is so true. I'll be defending well, getting bodies back and forcing the CPU to play mostly sideways passes, then all of a sudden a simple ball into my box, where my defender is suddenly no where near close enough to the attacker and they score. It is so annoying how every team pretty much plays the same way. I played Mansfield in the cup and they're trying to pass through me like Barcelona.

I'm at least picking up realistic results though.

I've seen some horrendous goalkeeping too. Yesterday the keeper made a save, it rebounded to the attacker, the keeper could've scooped the ball up but he just stood there gawping at it as the attacker hit it into the goal. I mean, I know Bogdan makes the odd howler here and there, but he isn't THAT bad!

I've had these messages a couple of times. Also, I've been called a noob for not playing a counter-attacking, pace-abusing style of football. I'm not going to play like a dickhead to win matches. I won't enjoy the game playing that way. I'm going to be as stubborn as Wenger and stick to my principles.

I'm enjoying offline FUT more than online, at the moment. Although beating pace abusers (and making them rage quit many times) is fun, it's ultimately boring. I earned successive promotions to D6 without much of a struggle, and this is without using any players with more than 81/82 pace. In fact, playing offline on Legendary and Ultimate level has helped me become better online, especially when it comes to defending. That doesn't prevent me being suicidal in defence while in possession, though (Clubs teammates know!).

Iron is spot on about the game making your players worse, the higher the difficulty, rather than just making the CPU better. It's been the case for a while. That's probably the most frustrating thing about playing at high difficulty, but the CPU players being mind readers is up there. I'm sure you guys have come across this - the CPU moving or reacting instantly when you move your player (in and out of possession). It's as if you pressing a button controls the CPU, as well as your own player. I sometimes wish you could change the control port like in Metal Gear Solid!

Yeah, the Legenday A.I. is laughable. Sometimes I just leave a little space to let them progress rather than just their passing around nonsense.

It's well known that the CPU "cheats" in FIFA. On legendary the CPU is always the first to loose balls and I'm sure it sabotages your pass accuracy/power too as well as making your players control the ball like a pack of retards quite regularly with their first touch which doubled up with the CPU ability to win loose balls makes the game a right chore.

Yep. It makes your players turn like they're playing in mud, and there's often a bit of lag when you press buttons (usually shooting and passing). It's the been the case for ages.

I remember making the point in the past that, we seem to treat football video games differently to other video games, regarding difficulty settings. Then again, I don't think other game genres make your characters worse, as well as making the CPU tougher.

I've played about 6 games at home. Lost 5 drawn 1. I can only seem to win away. When I'm playing at home, I seem to suffer from bullshit refereeing, bullshit finishing, bullshit deflections, bullshit everything! The opposition AI just seems to play way more aggressively when I play at home.

great pieces above

Jonno describing how our AI is "sabotaged" frames it perfectly.
Dragon hits it as well that other games don't do it this way. Madden and NHL players can likely agree that it is the CPU that gets better not the AI of our own teammates that get worse. In Madden, my offensive line might get blown off the ball by a blitzing linebacker but my wide receiver doesn't suddenly start dropping easy passes and my quarterback doesn't suddenly forget how to throw on highest difficulty levels.
