I've just worked it out and there are in theory 9 different areas that you can cross the ball into just by using the O and directions

you can do a number of different type of crosses, short and long, also to the edge of the box etc, kinda hard to explain but I'll do my best, as we all know, pressing O once does a long far post cross, twice does near post and 3 times does a grass cutter pass. then you have the directional...

I think it's because your team popularity is still not high enough, it depends on how hard you have set the master league difficulty, I'm not talking about the gameplay difficulty but the actual master league difficulty, if you have it set to very hard, players like ronaldo, terry, rooney etc...
