Yeah that's true ;) Same thing with Bert Trautmann (wanted to play for the NT but Herberger didn't want him) who also never played for the German NT. These two were way better than Illgner (most overrated German keeper of all time, directly followed by Jens Lehmann) but simply never got a chance...

Because he just played for the DDR team. Maier was maybe not good as Croy in his prime time but he was a world class keeper too (for a longer time than Croy) and was the number one in the greatest german team ever (1972). This might be the reason why so many websites prefer Maier instead of Croy ;)
