4-4-2 flat help

Hello PES'ers!

I'm not experienced player, but i really like the 4-4-2 flat formation (2cmfs and 2 smfs). trouble is i don't create many chances and struggle with getting the ball from my midfielders to forwards. I usually try to get the ball to either wing and then my smfs try to put a long ball in the box, or try the through pass from one of my cmfs to the forwards. I recently switched to 5* and i find that my scoring pathes do not work well.
Anyone else plays a similar formation and have any tips on attacking plays? I really like how this 4-4-2 works in defence, the trouble is attacking play. Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe you should move the SMFs or CMFs slightly forwards to an AMF position. You don't need 4 people across midfield

What works for me is, moving your 2 cmfs a little deeper, maybe even making one a dmf, have the dmf high defense and the cmf just normal, with no attacking arrows, youll find your cmf will join the attack, and your dmf will be there to collect any clearances from your opponents half.
Then shifting your 2 smfs forward more. Have one of em with no attacking arrows, and the other with an arrow attacking the penalty area. One will then be more inclined to join your midfield and the other to join your attack.

Also, shift one of your strikers a little deeper and change him to a SS with an attacking arrow forward. This especially helps if ya opponents play man marking, as part of their defense gets pulled up field trying to mark ya SS.

This works for me, i to like the defense that a 4-4-2 gives ya.

It's very easy to attack against a flat 4-4-2. Just through pass it through the midfield and defence, and who ever plays you is sorted. It's best to have at least one DM with individual tactic: Covering. Let the other 3 midfielders attack, and the defence would be fine because the DM will make an extra defender, when defending.

Thank guys. I'll try the tips.

g33k: i really can't play with the AMF. If i play 442 diamond or so, all my plays seems to get through the AMF, and if he is not in form all my attacks quickly break. I prefer 2 cmfs - i got two players in the middle which makes my attack more unpredictable.

watty: to be true i made one of my CF an SS yesterday and it works a treat! I'll try your suggestion concerning the smfs.

dragonfly: i know the weaknesses of the flat 442 :) however i'll try puting on of my cmfs on covering. I never tried that.

The first succesess so far - 1st in the 2nd div. after half of season!
I also found that playing a high ball instead of ground pass works well with the 442 flat

Thanks again for the tips

Hello again

Made the promotion to the first league, and it is a different story now.

My passes are intercepted, i concede a lot of goals (dragonfly:you were right, most of them coming from a through pass in the middle).

Due to heavy pressing, i have to stick getting the ball from the wing in the box, or trying some shots from the middle.

Also i cannot keep the ball on the wing. If it goes to one of my smfs, i ALWAYS loose it when i try dribbling opposition, and the crosses are not the best option (hardly ever winning it in the box). Trying to pass it back to SB or CMF and it is intercepted, counter and goal.
Seems like i need to practice more. But i once again need more tips - this time with the emphasis on ways to build the attack when the SMF got the ball.

Thanks in advance

heres the 4 4 2 system i use.
--------------------------kim u don---------------------------------------
------o shea------gunther--------ferdinand------heinze--------------------

------------------xavi-----------scholes---------------------------------------ronaldo------------------------------------giggs----------------------------------------rooney---------smith-------------------------------------

have no problem scoring and play similar to manshester united in real life, using my sidebacks and wingers to build the play up on the wings.central midfielders control the ball in the middle getting it to the wingers or feeding it through the middle to smith or rooney. On route to do the treble in master leauge level 4star.quick passing and desicive dribbling approach is the key

Does it ever. I hate when people use that on me. :p

I feel that my luck changed for the better when I learned the art of the "Super Cancel". Use that and you can win in the air, on the ground... even in the sea.

training skills. I get some good results.

murc: i still struggle not to overdo the "supercancel" but at least i don't miss obvious passes now.

Any tips as to the stategies?

I currently play line defence, withe the "B" settings. But i'm not sure if the "C" isn't the better option with both defence and midfield flat.

dragonfly: i put both cmf on covering. Seems like they respond better now.

Thanks guys for all the help.

I love using it as often as I can. If the ball is airborne, and the opp. is set right under it, you can use SC to barge in smash the ball away with the head (SC, running toward ball tap x). You can also throw a long airborne pass into space and run onto it. Ground play is pretty self explanitory, you can use it to go and get bad passes, intercept passes, and cut a run to get a pass early if the defence is shutting your run down. I found a new use though, impeding the progress of opposition players. Just SC and try to run them over, if your player is stronger he'll shove him out of the way and take posession. Its also great to use to keep the opp. from saving the ball from OB, just get in his way with SC, slow down, and keep him from going around (great for online :)). As for a definition of overdoing it... its all instinct really. And it really depends on how hungry you are at the particular time that you are playing :p. I also find that runing onto a ball with SC and shooting yields a furiously hard shot. THAT THOUGH, takes some perfect timing and tons of practice... that I've yet to do...

Hope this helps

Thanks murc. I never really knew how win those airbone balls. Will try the tips for sure.

Anyway i found the great formation that works for me. I was browsing through the advanced formations thread and found this beauty:

Thanks to Jmz, I seem to score more now and keep posession well. It's strange because it not differs much from the falt 4-4-2 i was using. Seems like little tweaks can do wonders in PES :)

Well back to practice then...
