a bit of gameplay help please

I've bin playing since release date, on the 360, and yet i still find it extremely hard to win, let alone score! im used to winning 10-0 in pes 08 but now none of the tactics seem to work.
ive adjusted, to a more passing game, slow dribbling instead of sprint/slaloming between players to score, but i just find it darned impossible.
the crossing hardly ever reaches anyone, unless i use "early cross", corners are pants, and every time i take a shot i either hit it into row z, have the shot blocked or the keeper saves it (honestly, the keepers are far too overpowered!!!)

has anyone adjusted, or knows how to play this game? as nothing works for me, possession football is impossible as passing leads no-where.

i started on top player, got beaten every game nearly, moved down to pro, and now all i do is draw as i cant score, but they dont pose any threat!
(oh before i forget, is it me or do the players not remain in position?, always have ferdinand in midfield, or berbatov in CB)

Play on regular, then when you get better move to pro. pes 08 was really easy unlike this one. I also used to play pes 08 top player, but I'm playing regular in pes 09 but soon I'll go for PRO.

Yeah it's going to be frustrating in top player if you got real comfortable with 08. You need patience in the passing game because the body balance godlyness is pretty much gone.

Quick response / dribbling seems to be unique now. Combine that with good speed and solid body balance (yes it still helps ) and you got yourself a deadly player. You can't just bulldoze your way thru defenses anymore. You have to make quick moves and get bye defenders. Add in quick passes (1-2s and the such) and your in business.

All this and you sometimes need to mix in with appropiate formations depending on the oponent. If noticed that sometimes i struggle and get nowhere with 4-4-2 so i set a 4-3-3 attack formation to my square button (PS3) in strategies, setting backline to A. I might even change it to a different 4-2-2-2 type or a full out 3-4-3 attack. It's all about freeing up players so you have time to develope plays . You can even setup defensive formations and tag them to a strategy button.

In the end you have to realize that top player means the comp has a stat boost advantage. So Mr. Billy Bob 70 speed defender will most likely catch your faster 80 speed striker. It's part of playing in the highest difficulty. Adapt and it will fair up (Although i still feel the comp gets a few cheap ones from time to time ).

I was the same as you. I started off on top player, and I struggled to score let alone win a game in my 1st season. But half way through it just all came together and managed to win Div 2 by 1 pt. Season 2 finished with me comfortably winning top div and now just stated season 3. I still find it difficult to score, even 1 on 1's. 90% of my goals are coming from rebounds off the GK. Keep practicing, it will soon click.

As for your players changing positions, the only time I've come across this is when I've won a corner or just afterwards, but thats because I choose to have Vidic and Ferdinand in the box so someone has to stay back. Usually thats my MF players not my attackers though.

I play Top player in PES 08 but I am playing regular in PES 09 since I cant play in Top Player. I will be moving up to pro soon enough.

Because defenders have got better and its harder to dribble through the back line I found that most of my goals so far have come from long(ish) shots just outside the area. Playing as Milan Ive already scored tons of goals in this manner with Kaka and Ronaldinho but also with Flamini and Gatuso. Ive also done the same with other teams so its not just about the superstars. The trick is to wait for some space to open up, be patient until you can lay it off, then be composed with the shot.

Defensively, its really important to have a quality Defensive Midfielder screening this area as much as possible, which is a nice return to the gameplay of PES 5 & 6 methinks.

just try out different formations, there are loads on there enit

try the 4-4-2 diamond... that always works for me

ok thanks guys, im tryin the different formations and strategy plans now. was used to just bulldozin with the same strategy, i suppose that shows how wrong pes 08 was!

also, is it just me, but when your searching for new players, or looking at "my team" the development arrows are no longer displayed (up level down), yet it still lists them in the instruction manual....

Also on a slightly more advanced level (lol),

try adjusting formations based on what the computer is playing against you....as some formations work better against others
