We've received some news about what PES2011 is going to be like. There was the huge announcement of having the Copa Libertadores competition licensed. Then, of course, from the press release:

* Total Control: PES Productions has enhanced the 360-degree passing ratio, offering unprecedented levels of control over every pass, shot, throw-in, through ball and lofted through balls. This allows users to pass the ball into space, and move their play with total freedom. Players must precisely weight their passes and second-guess the runs of their team-mates and exploit their movement. Players even can apply pressure on opponents to force them off the ball.
* Shot & Stamina Gauge: In addition to the generic power gauge, the Shot & Stamina meter details the player's exact level of fitness. Constantly sprinting will affect the player's movements and will have an adverse affect on his stats, with passes going awry and a loss of pace.
* New Defender AI: Defenders now hold their positions naturally, no longer chasing any ball that enters their area; preferring to close down the attacker and force them into a mistake.
* Animation and Player Physics: PES Productions has totally reworked every element of in-game animation. These additions will become clear before even kick-off, with the players enjoying fluid, natural movements, with more realistic acceleration and inertia than ever before. The physicality between players is also improved, which was a priority requested in PES forums. Jostling and blocking now looks stunning, while there is a larger variety of convincing tackling styles. Ambient animation also adds immensely to the in-game atmosphere, as players behave realistically when off the ball, and walk and run with a variety of individual styles.
* Speed of Play: The new level of control means that PES 2011 enjoys a more considered pace of play, which varies dependent on situations. The game will burst into life as counter-attacks come into play, but players can dictate the pace via slow build up or exploiting available space to surge forward. It is harder to make long runs from midfield, and successful play will depend on making quick passes to make room.
* Aesthetics: PES 2010 showcased the best likenesses in a football game, and PES 2011 ups the ante further. Facial animation has been enhanced, but the key advances are over 1000 all-new animations which have been recreated from the ground up using over 100 hours of motion captured footage. Every aspect of player movement has been reworked, with more organic runs, turns, throw-ins, tackles, and interaction. The way players speed up and slow down is also more natural, while replays display elements of motion blur that bring your saved goals to vivid life.
* Tactical and Strategy: The sheer number of options available in the PES series has established it as a remarkably flexible simulation, allowing players to stamp their playing style on each match. The PES Productions team has implemented an all new 'Drag and Drop' mechanism that can be used in every aspect of team management, not just substitutions or formation changes. These settings are also animated to promote better understanding of the plays that have been altered.
* Feint settings: PES has always offered a wide range of subtle skills, feints and turns, but PES 2011 allows users to map their favourite move sequences to the right stick, making them more accessible than ever before.
* Master League Online: Master League will offer an all-new challenge, as users are invited to try their hand against other managers online. PES 2011 will mark the online debut for its much-loved Master League element, with players bidding against each other for the world?s best players, and attempting to build a squad that can compete with the best against online peers all over the globe.

So, assuming that what they say they are going to change or implement is completely true, at what point does PES2011 become a sure buy?

Here's my answer: For me personally, its if there is either the licensed or fake version of the Bundesliga, if they bring back the Konami Cup and International League, and if they add more editable team slots.

Obviously the icing on the cake would be to recreate the way PES6 played, making more editable options, more stadiums, more national teams, even more leagues, etc. For me, though, I will definitely buy PES2011 if they add the three items I am looking for.

So what will make PES2011 a sure buy for you?

PES, every year is a sure buy for me. Its just the way its always been, and I don't see that changing.

Outside of PES2007, I've bought every one since PES5. I share the same view as many others have here, PES6 was tops and I continued to play it on my Xbox360.

While I enjoyed PES2010's style more than PES2009, I've returned to PES2009 because of the Konami Cup and International League. I like the edit my own teams into the game and play them in leagues outside of master league.

So if the KC and IL don't return, I will probably stick with PES2009.

It all sounds good as always. But I think MAYBE this year, they're onto something.
By adding the stamina meter and power gauges shows you that there were several complaints and they worked that out. I can't see it turning to the worst. It will improve nonetheless. But I am still not sure if it will improve as much as they're saying because to be fair, pes in recent year didn't improve as much as they said in previews. However this year, it all seems different. Press releases and very early talks are just non expected at this stage. So maybe with these early talks and previews + the fact that they're working on decreasing superhuman runs (with stamina meter and a more suitable pace), maybe it will change this year. I hope it will finally evolve. I think I will get it.:)

Too early for any level-headed individual to make a concrete decision either way.

Excitement is nice, so is hype, but they just aren't for me where certain games are concerned. I continue to wait for real news around August/September when late builds are doing the rounds.

I'm actually thinking about not buying PES/FIFA this year.

I will wait for like a week until the game is out to get feedback off you guys and my friends and then decide.

Ever since PES2008 and FIFA08 I have brought both EA and Konami game, PES2009 and FIFA09, PES2010 and FIFA10.

But this year I just want one football game. So i'll wait for suggestions and feedback before I make my decision. I'll probably buy FIFA11, but who knows, PES2011 may just be awesome...

The reason i'm doing this is because I will be buying Call of Duty: Black Ops and probably something like Skate 3 or some other game like that, just to mix things up a little.

So yeah, not sure whether i'll be buying PES this year. Hope things turn out well for Konami this year and I do end up buying the game because I have been a loyal fan since PES4 :)

Obviously, and with the information that has come out, I'd say a good many of us aren't sure to buy this game yet.

All I am asking is, under the assumption that the information so far is true, what will Konami have to do to ensure that you buy this title. The greatest, and I'd argue most important, aspect of PES is that you can create to be your game, unique from anyone else's. Either through the patching community or through editing your own, PES has offered a lot in being able to create a unique game for their clients. However, even though PES2010 was an improvement from 2008 or 2009, they took away a couple of options that I felt were huge.

So, for PES2011, I want them to include these options. If they bring back Konami Cup and International League, I'm certain I will buy this game. If not, then I may skip it.

I'll do what I always do, and that is wait for the demo. Even though it's not a finnished product, it's never far off. Normally it is a sure thing, but I was so disappointed with 2010...

Only a mug of the highest order would pre-order PES2011 now with so little REAL information about it in the public domain.

So rainey you don't get free copies like Adam and Suff then? Shame. People that will buy Konami products NO MATTER HOW POOR THE QUALITY OF THEM will kill PES. If Konami does ever recover it will thanks to the many fans that did not buy the game, forcing Konami to up their so far pathetic attempts in the "next-gen" era

Cause dummy if Konami could get excellent sales and big profits with crap like PES2008 they would simply produce shitty games year on year...but if they do put some fucking effort into a decent game IT IS ONLY BECUASE OF THE MASSIVE DROP IN SALES THEY HAVE HAD!

IF EVERYONE STILL PURCHASED KONAMI'S SHIT THEY WOULD HAVE NO REASON TO IMPROVE WHAT THEY OFFER TO THEIR CUSTOMERS
