Adjusting team strategies for realism

I just registered to say how AWESOME these settings are! Thanks Sabatasso and Blazer89 for figuring out all this. Pes now offers attractive open and creative football, while still having the good parts of 'old' Pes.

I used it in combination with the PESedit 1.6.5 patch

I changed the settings recommended by Sabatasso with PESEditor 1.9.1 And i've put them in a short list for convenience:

  • Give all players S02 "passer" card
  • Give all CF, WF, SS, AMF, SMF and CMF the S01 "Reaction Card"
  • Tune the team sliders for "Professional"
    • +10 pressure
    • +20 player support
    • +10 defensive line
    • -30 Attacking style
    • -35 Compactness
    • +10 position switch
  • Give all top teams a compactness of 43
  • Set all goalkeepers to "Defensive",
  • Put minimum keeper aggression to 75.
  • Set minimum agression for all outfield players at 75, maximum at 90 for all outfield players.
  • Set agility +5 for all players
  • Set minimum 75 agility for all players

I haven't done these settings yet, as they require manually editing every team ingame:

Imo this thread deserves a sticky! :w00t

Worth noticing that the Assisted Settings doesen't affect the AI according to some people, I'm not sure myself to be honest. But the Lineup setting does for a fact change the priority of the AI, meaning that by setting this setting to 2, it will ensure that the AI employ their better players on the field when they are in form and available.

I posted my two files in the completed file section:

http://www.pesgaming.com/showthread.php?p=1589213

The Top Player settings I came up with are:

1. Player Support - Add 30 to each team.
3. Position Switch - Raise by 20 for each team, not going over 80.
4. Offensive Style - Subtract 30 from each team, not going under 20.
5. Pressing - Subtract 30 from each team, not going under 20.
6. Defensive Line - Add 20 to each team.
7. Compactness - Lower by 30 for each team, not going under 20.

The game still seems easy. I just don't think much can be done about that, on the PS3 at least... Unless someone wanted to dive in and spend some serious time going through player by player...

And that ain't gonna be me.

I'm going to start a new ML and hope that, 1. It works out, and 2. There is a new patch that fixes the fouls and penalties, and adds a new Superstar difficulty.

I am happy to report that these Top Player settings are working out in my new ML. Early on I thought it was going to be too easy, but then lost a barn burner to Man. City 5-4... A great game too, back and forth. Tevez, Robinho, and Wright-Phillips were just about running circles around me. I had forgot that Top Player really gives individual skill players a boost.

I am playing these settings however, their doesnt appear to be any way of stopping the centre backs backing off when your running at them!

With Top Player it becomes less of a problem it seems, but it's still there. More often than not a midfielder will come back to apply pressure if the CBs keep retreating.

I don't mind so much that they retreat, just not all the way back into their own penalty box. Really, they should stop and engage the attack about 10 yards sooner.

I completely agree its natural to retreat to a point, but the point at which they decide to come out and engage the opposition is far to late.

To be honest I am enjoying the game much more with the settings, my only gripe really is the back four! But this game is far far from perfect and at least we are trying to make the best we can with it!

This aspect of the game is making Top Player a real challenge. Sometimes it seems unrealistic, and even seems to fluctuate. I suppose that's just players and teams being on form. I lost one of my last games to a lesser team, and was even out shot by them.

I think so too. Because at this point with all these changes the game is very good, with a ton of depth and variety. It's still got some problems, but the good far outweigh them. The light just about gets rid of the dark.

And if a moderator does sticky this thread, please change the title if possible to "Adjusting team styles for realism".

Because it's actually team styles, and not strategies. My mistake from the get go.

:erm:

And maybe this thread belongs in the main editing forum:

???

I think that also the support range option must be taken into consideration. If we lower it the players will be more spreaded in the field. I tried to lower it by 30 and i feel it's even better.

Good call LUCA.

I've grown tired of the Top Player settings I was using, and have gone back to trying to get Pro to play as well as possible. So far I've raised Player Support even more, and yeah, Support Range lowered gives you better spacing. It also seems to help get rid of the ping pong passing, because defenders have more time and space to intercept passes.

It's so nice to be back on Pro. Top Player was a good challenge, but unrealistic and cheap feeling.

I'm currently working on another edit file (North American PS3), for Pro difficulty, using MrGameTight's base file. It has better emblems and better kits than the one I did. I may even add some international kits to it for the World Cup.

The file is now ready:

So far it seems to play pretty well. I just won with Lyon @ Marseille, 3-2 on a 2nd half free kick (think I've finally got the hang of them :)). Marseille pretty much controlled the game and should have won. It was the first game of a new ML. I've played a few exhibition games that seemed on the easy side too though, so who knows...

The changes I made are raising Player Support by 40, so pretty much every team is at 100 or close to it. And then also lowering Support Range by 20. The high Player Support seems to have made the biggest difference, as teams are just a bit more aggressive. Another small difference when lowering Support Range is that it makes passing just a bit tougher, as your teammates will often go off screen. I like the challenge.

For veterans I suggest picking a lesser club to play as, or else it'll probably be too easy. And if you do decide on Top Player instead, lower Pressing by 60 (50 off the default). This will bring teams down close to zero, and is necessary for any sense of realism on that difficulty level.

The best way that I've found to counter the pressing on Top Player is to lower my own player support to 0-30. Anything higher than that, and the CPU squeezes all the space. By lowering, it not only spreads your guys out, but makes the CPU have to stretch a bit to cover everyone, giving you a bit more time on the ball. It also opens up the play, as with guys being more spread out, it is easier to get some flowing movement going, and through balls are a lot easier to pull off with the extra width. Just my .02 ...

Is it, by any chance, possible to make a file will all those changes so that we do not have to waste time doing it? :)

Great idea. I would, but I am using an already modified (PesEdit) option file, so by doing that I would also rip off his work.

However, the list of modifications I've done, as described in this post:
http://www.pesgaming.com/showpost.php?p=1580815&postcount=53
took me about 15 minutes to do. (5 minutes to figure out peseditor, 10 minutes to do the changes)

Working with PesEditor is quite easy; it allows you to change all teams and players at once, in the "Global Adjust" tab.
The latest PesEditor download can be found here:
