Hi, as I haven't seen this problem before, I don't have a solution for this yet.
But I suspect the original cv_0.img file may be corrupted or damaged in one way or another, have you tried using fresh .img files straight from your DVD/ISO copied into the PES2008 Directory?

And there may be solutions already online, try typing the actual error messge (with appropriate quotes when needed) into google, and there's a chance that a solution can be found.
eg. try typing something like (inlcude quote marks):
"Descriptor table missing!" "Try rebuilding the AFS to fix it" "AFS EXplorer"
Type all or some of that in google (you can add or remove words to narrow down your search", and there may be solutions around.
That is how I troubleshoot my own problems with other softwares without even the need for asking forums.

I would have a little search for you, but I got my own stuff to do.

Also, you can post in my original patch thread next time you encounter a problem as there may be other people who has the same problems and it would be easier for them to find the solutions.

AFS is powerful but very unwieldy, would work better for n00bs if it started up with some sort of wizard
