"All new season, all new game" according to Konami

i aint holding my breath. i dunno why theyre telling us this now. the first trailer probably won't even be till 6 months down the line

its good to see konami are consistent every year in talking shite. The time for talking is over, its time the loyal pes fans are rewarded with something special instead of more empty promises.

Thinking back to pes 08 makes me laugh, imagine a company releasing a game knowing it was bugged, then following year just releasing the same game but a polished version with a mode that was released in japan for 08

good to see they talked about the keepers being jazzed up abit

Well I'm being optimistic, how many years did EA release shite on the 360 before they got it right? Konami hasn't been developing for next gen as long as them so give it a chance. If they have implemented a new game engine then it should be big changes, hopefully using the GTA4 Euphoria physics engine for animations, that would be top class.

I already made the mistake of wasting $100 between PES08 and PES09. I'm definitely not giving any more charity to Konami, I want my money's worth.

So with that in mind, I'm not that worried about this latest news.. we will always get to play the demo, and there's always FIFA 2010.

As for the news itself.. it sounds different from the last couple of years:

"thus returning PES 2010 to its simulation roots"

- Is this confirmation that they will dump the whole arcade-like approach of the last couple of years, and instead will chose a more serious-simulation oriented direction?

"PES 2010 focuses on being a real football simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life"

- Further confirmation?

"Animations now dovetail into each other seamlessly, with dribbling and shots on goals worked into dribbling animations"

- No more skating through the pitch?? No more jerky animations?

"Each player enjoys unique AI tied into their best abilities, and is reflected in the actions of their team mates"

- This sounds like an awesome addition, now if I have Riquelme with the ball.. I can expect the rest of my team-mates to run into space, because they know Riquelme can place a pass even through seemingly impossible spaces.

"In terms of attacking, players can also now move several players once, sending them into different areas, opening up more goal-scoring possibilities than ever before"

- This sounds promising, I wonder how it will work.. hopefully the Stats will play a key role in how an individual moves off-the-ball. I don't want an average Striker positioning himself with the same effectiveness as Van Nistelrooy.

"As such, PES 2010 necessitates a new level of control from the player. Strategic thinking is as important as quick passing, but the new system greatly opens the way the player oversees control of the team"

- Again more confirmation that PES 2010 haves a more "strategic" approach.. sounds promising, hopefully the STATS will determine the actual Tactical Ability of each individual within the game.

"follows months of analysis and feedback monitoring to enhance the game in every area. PES Productions, Konami’s Tokyo-based development team, has collated feedback on the series’ strengths and weaknesses via fan forums, both ardent and casual PES players and press comment, and has incorporated a wide range of requests in the new game"

“We have been monitoring feedback and comments on the progression of the PES series for some time now, and PES 2010 will see us implementing a great deal of the ideas players have been requesting,”

- I don't recall Konami ever saying such a thing, this is a 1st for me. Though it isn't necessarily a good thing for me because many "fan forums" are full of rubbish ideas/suggestions.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

My take on this news..

I think it's different from the last couple of years, it is more precise and serious and ambitious, indicates a proper overhaul. Expectations will be high after this news.. further indication of confidence from Konami.

The Demo will tell us all we need to know, and hopefully it meets expectations.

Many of you know, i was a massive critic of the last two pes games, sadly, Konami have taken me in once again with the promise of a decent game, I will be monitoring the gameplay carefully though to see if they really implement those changes, im interested in the Master leagues ones in particular. If its geniunley better than FIFA 2010 I will buy it, its still got a mountain to climb though.

Can I just say this, this is the last chance saloon for konami, I truly hope they are listening to what you guys want, on the EA website one of the developers of FIFA 10 (thats what it will be called) has already started informing posters like yourself of the changes that willl be made and is asking them questions on what they want. PES is really up against it this year.

It sounds like good news after a 1st read.. but now I've noticed that there is no mention of a "New Engine".

After PES08 and PES09 one would think that the first press release regarding PES 2010 would read something like: "All new season, all new engine".

It didn't, and one haves to wonder if Konami are seriously thinking about using the same out of date engine for a 3rd year running.

If they do I'm definitively not buying it.. I've had enough of 8-directional Movement and Passing.. it's not Next Gen.

Hopefully, in a month or so they will confirm that they will use an all-new engine for PES 2010. Otherwise people will remain skeptical, and if the demo shows any hint of twitchy animations and movements.. it will be a severe blow to the PES franchise.

So yeah, a better 1st press release than in past years.. but the key words "all-new engine" are missing.

I'm not gonna get excited. It sounds promising yes, however look at how long it is till the game is released. There is plenty of time for things to change, whether thats in a good way or not we will have to wait but don't get too excited.

I'm with Ameuter, Until KONAMI announce themselves that PES2010 will have an "Alll New Engine", I'm still going to be convinced that the gameplay will be like PES08 and PES09.

Konami -- "PES 2010 focuses on being a real football simulation, as it requires both strategic play and quick reactions, as in real life".

Considering the quote above, I do find it odd that they did not mentioned anything about "all-new Stats have been implemented into PES 2010 to better define player attributes and individualism".

I just find it very logical, if you want a "REAL football simulation" -you- need New and more accurate STATS. The better your Stats Concept -the- more Realistic the "Simulation".

Perhaps Konami will implement New Stats into PES 2010, perhaps they are saving that info for later.. or maybe they just haven't really considered implementing New Stats just yet.. after years and years of using the same Old Stats.

Anyways..

Am I the only one who finds it strange? That Konami wants a more realistic simulation, but somehow failed to mention anything about all-new Stats to achieve greater realism ?

I just think its the case that Konami are not going to mention much in detail at this point. With months to go, perhaps they will mention more specifics as to how this will come about in the up and coming months. Even though their statement was quite detailed they probably do not want to get into the "knitty gritty" parts of some of the changes they are making.

They are still developing the game now and so this is probably just a general outline. Its simple, the 1st in game footage followed by demo will tell the story.

Im actually quite excited about this you know, Im not sure im gonna have time to buy both fifa and pes on release date and give them equal attention, so im gonna stick to one for the time being. I really think this game is going to be the improvement you guys want or come close to it actually.

HOWEVER

Konami only had to do one thing, one simple thing. One of them needs to come on here, and ask for improvement, and let us know they are all being noted down. Simple as that, and from what i've seen, they arent doing it. Its basic market research. EA are doing it with posters like you, so why aren't Konami?

They are still not listening enough, which is why I dont bother listing tons of improvements, waste of time, one of the should drag their ass on here and just let us know he will read what the fuck is going on.

I think PES 2010 is going to be a good game actually, I grew up as a teen with PES so a little part of me wants to see it do well, but im pretty sure while it will be an improvement, the days of it being number 1 are over for now. If im wrong, ill be happy, ill buy PES 2010 and praise it to the hilt. Even with all the licenses (how ironic seeing as fifa was the game with the licenses) I still think FIFA10 is gonna be number one again. I look at the EA Developer talking to posters like you on the website and assuring them that the bugs from FIFA 09 are going to be removed and this year they are working on improving game atmosphere, Ball physics and things like that. I don't see any other outcome, this is what Konami should be doing, but its still not happening.

Maybe its just an early first press release from Konami to get people hooked and later feed us with more detailed info and show us what they got for us up their sleeves.

Maybe I'm just hopeful..

I wouldn't hold ya breath. This sort of sh*t comes out every year & the game always turns out to be an embarassment. Well the last couple of years anyway.... About time they expanded the work force tho. Maybe if they had done that when they first implemented next-gen, they'd be in alot more of a stronger position. Just p*sses me off that FIFA is gettin all the plaudits. FIFA09 is the first & only good (yes good, not great) edition of FIFA EVER made & that is being generous.
