Analogue gamepads and PES4

I'm a recent FIFA convert with a Logitech Dual Action gamepad and PES4 on the PC. I know there have been a number of threads on this sort of subject, but can someone just clear this up for me: does PES4 (or PES3 for that matter) recognise the analogue function of this and similar gamepads? I've been using the left stick for movement and the right obviously for manual passing, but both seem to behave just like the D-pad, i.e. only in eight discrete directions. This is a real bummer when trying to make the defence-splitting pass or send Wayne Rooney charging through a gap in the back four. Is it the game which doesn't support analogue controls, or is it my gamepad? If it's the pad, what should I replace it with?
Thanks for your help.

I should just add that when I open 'Game Controllers' in (Windows XP Pro) Control Panel, I can calibrate the analogue stick and the 360-degree function works properly.

I would also like to know the true answer to this because I've found threads which say you can set up full 360 degrees analogue control on PC and threads which say you can't. I've followed the instructions on the ones that say you can but players still only move in 8 directions

is this possible to fix with some patch?

regards bff)

if i get an answer i will tell you to

the analog sticks work fine, and are quite usable...your best bet is to grab the demo and see what we are all talking about.

you mean only with the ps2 controller and converter?

ok, but i just bought a logitech dual action, so i can't really say i want to spend more money.
it should work allready, or there should be a patch, aught to be simple?

but probably it will end with me buying one of those and a new ps2 controller(don't have one).

how much will that cost me alltogether?

You can get a usb converter for £6 with free P&P at the moment at www.play.com. PS2 controllers? wouldn't really like to guess the price but they can't be that dear. I've had mine for about 5 years and its still going strong.

i think the converter cost me $15-20 (i got the four port one, there are one and two port ones for cheaper) and then whatever you can find a PS2 controller for, im sure some site has them on sale or something.

i've never used your controller with pes/we so i cant tell you that i have got it all working or know how to either.

it really should be easy for konami to patch this. it's my opinion this would make pes4 win easily over fifa, but now only fifa works perfektly with my pad.

f*ck! i now got an adapter like the one you ppl mentioned, only it isn't the play.com one because i don't have a credit card. i use it with a hipgear ps2 controller, ok not orginal but the controller works perfectely in it's setup program, but do you think it works in pes4? or even fifa 2005, NO.
and someone just said the game works fine, this is not fine, do you have to have a credit card or live in uk to play the game?

hi everybody.
First of all PES3 or PES4 does not support analog control. I mean U can play with analog stick, but there still will be only 8 directions, it's not a pad fault. I use Logitech dual action for about 1,5 year with PES3 and now with PES 4 and it works great for me. I play with analog stick and have no problem with controlig the player, I used to play PES2 on PS2 and I dont see much difference with controls, but still SONY's dualshock is the best pad ever.

It does support analogue control. Players analogue expectations are greater than what konami can produce for us.

im not so quick to let konami off the hook on this one

play any ea sports game, and you will see how movement 'should' work with the sticks. why there are only 8 way in the PES games is beyond me...its like direction control from 10 years ago with a cutting edge game.

its one of my biggest gripes

I agree totally with you CtrlAltDel but realize that the great part of PRO EVOLUTION players don't use the manual pass.

I play only using manual pass, even when crossing or shooting near the goal, and although it's more difficult to master the game then, it's gives the game the deep than fifa can't offer.

I play PES 4 in pc with a Logitech Dual action, and in my opinion, it works almost as the dualshock controller.

No, its true, there is no reason for still using only 8 directions. Having said that though, we dont know if adding 360 degree rotation restricts other factors in game if added. I mean it shouldnt do, but perhaps in konami's case with the pes games perhaps it does. So i guess they have their reasons, either that, or they just havent bothered to make the most of it.

well t1000v2.0 i think its due to the fact that they have only converted their console game to the PC twice and still need to strengthen that part of their development team.

Hopeing to add to this discussion, although maybe a bit dead now... :)

PES (including the new PES5) for PC is indeed not analog. It has been stated in the thread already, but there are only 8 directions available, whether using the d-pad or an analog stick. Thus, there are only 8 directions to strike manual passes in, and only 8 directions to strike crosses in.

I recently played the FIFA '06 PC Demo, and was pleasantly surprised to find analog support there. You see, I always thought that the reason PES didn't have analog support was that the dribbling system might be a big harder since you, right now, make certain dribbles (like 180 turn and sidesteping) by moving the stick 180 degrees, and pressing L2 and moving the stick/pad 90 degrees in relation to the way you are moving, respectively. Making things analog might make the dribbling less intuitive and more prone to errors and misjudgments.

However, FIFA '06 had a great solution. Basically, when you are in possession of the ball, the dribbling system is 8-way like in PES, making dribbling very easy. Crosses are still very analog and respond exactly to the way the stick is tilted. Off the ball, however, the movements are completely analog. You can run in every which way you want. Very nice.

In PES, however, off the ball you often have to fall back to wobbling the stick to run analog-ly. In other words, rapidly switching from running straight up and running to the up-right direction will result in the player ending up somehwere in the middle of up and up-right (making the player look slightly drunk if done correctly(or incorrectly)).

In my opinion, the only thing really missing from PES (everything can be improved ofcourse, even something so close to perfection as PES) is analog support. There are just to many occassions (in the PES5 PC Demo, but also on PES4 Xbox) where I have had the opportunity to make a player free with thew goalie with a simple cross, only to have it go too close to the keeper or to far away from the player "thanks" to the 8-way nature.

So, Analog support to me is a must to make those precise passes possible. I would use analog passing more (at all) if it was analog, since it would then work as a complement to ordinary passing and through-balls. These days almost all controllers are analog, so I don't see the reason why not to include it. I mean, even ISS '98 for N64 was analog in every sense of the word. And I never had any problems with dribbling either. :)

Well, those are my thoughts. Leave yours if you want. Meanwhile, I am off playing the PES5 Demo. :)

Totally agree with you. I use a lot manual passing, both for passing, crossing and even shooting in one to ones against the keeper, so until this is resolved in PC versions I will continues playing PES in PS2.
