ok so I was very happy when I went through the mail today and found me a nice little package containing the 'essential' rgb scart cable (with nifty little dvd/game switch thingy) anyways I hooked it up but to no real avail cuz its still black and white WE7 :(

so I'm guessing the cable doesnt work on all tv sets then?

or am I doing something wrong (please let it be that :D )

OK, where did you order the RGB cable from? Have you tried to configure your TV to a NTSC signal? Is the RGB cable faulty? I play my WE7 through the normal PS2 cable and it works in full colour. Try those and tell me what happens.

I dont think my tv has the option to change that and since I got only one working machine at the moment (my other tv is broken and will be returned on monday) I cant test it on another set either...but I thought there was a ntsc 2 pal option within WE7 (cuz thats what a lot of sites mention as a feature) or maybe there will be a patch released for that?

Im not sure about a patch. Try a NTSC - PAL image convertor if you want.

thnkz for your quick replies but ehm just how do I do that?

You're gonna have to change the display seetings using the setup screen when you boot up the playstation 2 without a disc in it. i think its in deisplay seetings. switch it to rgb and see if that works m8

thanks but I tried that so it probably has something to do with my tv

or the cable...I got me this one

but connection wise you cant go wrong can you? I mean I just plug the scart in my tv set and the ps2 connector in the ps2 (...) and simply ignore the av plug thing (see pic if you dont know what I mean)

then theres the features thing...what does this mean (taken from the pesinsight.com frontpage )

Winning Eleven 7 Features
...
50/60Hz option for the eventual PAL conversion

thanks for all your help so far!

I think if the TV is 60Hz compatible, you get to see a bigger picture on UK TVs.

I do know that the Scart cable from: http://www.thebarras.co.uk/shop.htm
definitely does work to make it colour (second item down). Cheap too.

(living in Holland) I bought a cable just like that...along with the dvd switch and its not working...I'll test it on another tv this weekend to see if the cable is faulty or not

i have exactly the same cable that u have.
wot have u got the switch set to?
does the scart cable go directly into the back of ur TV cos mine is in black n white if i try to have it goin through my video first and then into my TV, only way mine is in colour is if i have it goin straight into my TV with the switch on game and playstation options on RGB.

I got it all exactly the same as you (straight to the tv, settings on game & RGB) I'll try it through my vcr later (maybe that works for me)

I got me a no brand tv (you know the ones...big ass screens for absurd prices with unique names like Provision) but anyways weird thing is that I can play svcds that are ntsc without problems (this is getting stranger by the minute)

Well, I suppose technically it's a bigger pic. But it's just cos all bloody developers seems to put big black bands on the screen @ 50hz to compensate for the refresh rate.

I would man if it wasnt for two things:

-the other cable I bought would become useless (which is pretty much what it is now so no biggie this)

-since I live in Holland the shipping abroad (if available) would probably exceed the cost of the cable itself :(

Bumping this thread up due to people new to playing import games having B&W probs.

Getting the better scart cable should solve the problem in most cases.

Yeah, I went and got an RGB scart cable with a game/dvd switch on it and it's coming out fine now. Thanks for everyone's help, I'm so relieved :D
