prefer pure simulations so fifa is the game for anyone who feels like i do.
Well, that's your opinion.
I think opposite. Both games are good, but pro is better in gameplay.
Anyway everyone deserves to have his own opinion:)

What is the reason we all played pro religiously 10 years ago up until the debacle that is next gen pro, because pro on the ps1 and ps2 was a simulation. It is a simple fact that pro is not a pure simulation anymore. If you prefer games with a more arcade feel then that's there enough, but i would honestly be astounded if you argued that pes is a better simulation than fifa. I know i sound like a bit of a cunt but people who argue that pes is the better game makes me believe they started playing pro only a few years ago when the series was in decline.

Modern football is not like older football. Modern football has taken a step towards being more arcade. (Now I'm not saying this to cover up pes 09). But look at the players. They are faster, score more goals, and the movements all favour attack rather than defend.
Pes 09 is a little towards the arcade but for me, it's a good sign. It represents real football (still it can be better).
Fifa has it's good side, but overall, pes 09 is simply better in gameplay. Though the gap between them is not by many.
I like this actually becaus now, we football fans have 2 great football games.

good point.

it all depends what kind of GAMEyouPLAY...

im now not even thinking about playing pes, me and my mate would play 2vcom a couple of weeks ago but now even that has stopped too..

i think i might have some bal mode games online again, they are fun..!!
if by some miracle konami manage 10v10 i think i would like it, they would need to take the magnets out the ball and players pockets though..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

people ignore this argument about the style of gameplay and will swear blind that pes is better even though they know it isn't.

^Sorry to say but STFU about how bad pes is.
EVERYONE DESERVE TO HAVE HIS OPINION SO PLEASE RESPECT IT.
I for one isn't a fanboy. I always owned both games (even some fifas on ps1). I started playing ISS PRO EVOLUTION 2 and had fifa 1999 as first games. Then I started getting both games.
So by far I'm not a fanboy.
It's my opinion. BOTH GAMES ARE GREAT AND HAVE THEIR GOOD AND BAD SIDE aswell. I'm happy with both games.

this is the second fifa game i have owned i just feel that fifa feels more like pes on the ps1 and 2 than pes 09 does. I respect opinions but i dont understand what youre basing it on unless you prefer a slightly more arcade style of football. I have been more of a fanboy than most regarding the pes fifa debate i just cant ignore how much better fifa is, i dont think its down to opinion unless you don't like accurate football sims. I am only trying to have a discussion i would just like to know what you think pes has over fifa with regards to being a football sim.

A good game should allow all styles of play. But what gets me confused now, is what do you mean by arcade and simulation? How I understand it, is that in simulation the situations in the field resemble real football. Arcade in turn doesn't care that much about how football plays, but how you can take control of the game itself.

The problem with simulation is that it's often implemented by not letting the player decide its own style of play. I think everyone has noticed how through passes seem ridiculously computer controlled in PES 09 for example. The first thing, in fact, that bothered me in the new PES is that it didn't let me play like I had used to. Not because my style of play would've been bad, but because it just didn't fit with the game's idea of football.(I like counter attacks, for instance, and I bet you've noticed how lazy your players are to start one)

This is why I actually prefer arcadish games. We all know Konami will never make a real football simulation where the AI would play wisely and consequently force you to play the game like real football. Arcade at least lets you play your own style, and if you want to play it like real football, you can if you will.

At the moment I use PES 09 mainly for toying around, because I like the edit mode and the graphics. I actually bought PES5 few days ago, and I'm surprised how much better it is. PES 09 isn't shit, but it has got features which too often spoil the fun, just like Amateur said.

the manual passing on fifa allows you to choose youre style of play as you would in football and for me this was the case with pes 1-5. The manual passing on pes 09 allows you to do this but not to the same depth so for me every game is the same to some extent. The default passing on pes with the triangle and x button are ridiculously simple.

I'm playing with PC(keyboard), so I've no experience from manual passing. I think it doesn't work in Pes 09 because the players are too dumb to react to anything unprogrammed. PES5 is the right choice for me. I tried PES6 but it was maybe even worse than 09. Dribbling seemed hard so I took a fast player, ran easlily through the field, scored and uninstalled :p

It's still an opinion. You think like that and others might not agree. Now I'm sort of in the middle but if I really had to choose then pes is better for me.
I think that this is not the appropriate thread to compare pes to fifa.
This is something that pes never fails in:
THE AMOUNT OF DIFFERENT GOALS YOU CAN SCORE.
This has always made pes the king. But Fifa is really closing in the gap. And this year we have 2 great football games. I'm happy for this year.
But both games can improve much more and both can feel more next gen in the next game.

have you tried manual shooting on fifa, the variety of ways you can score is infinite and this is backed up by every positive review fifa has recieved . i find scoring on pro to easy at times but there are still a variety of goals as unrewarding as they are most of the time. And of course this is an appropriate thread to compare pes to fifa its a bit pathetic to say that just because you obviously don't want to discuss it. I love talking about both games i have a huge passion for football sims and this directly relates to pes and fifa.

Manual shooting? You mean aiming your shot manually with the stick? I wouldn't really call that simulating a shot, because a pro football player for sure acts on instinct without having to search with his eyes a spot to shoot at. An arcade shooting system simulates this well, in my opinion ;)

it allows you to shape your shot with the foot rather than just press one button, yes footballers act on instinct but shooting requires depth and skill. This was much the case with the earlier incarnations of the game where it took actual skill to score, as in real life. Fifa excels for me in this department

In my opinion creating the shooting opportunity should be the thing to concentrate on, and leave the shooting depend on the shooter's numeric skill values.

The thing that PES still has over FIFA is the responsiveness, but the movements are too robotic-like. PES still provides better thrills in the Penalty Area, when scoring goals -but- FIFA is better in everything else.

I really never imagined like this, it seems as though now PES is the arcade-like Football Sim, whereas FIFA is now the "Realistic Representation" of Football.

I would disagree with that if I could, but there's just no denying it. The 8-Directional Movements and Passes spell "arcade".

PES09 is a game that is significantly hindered by the arcade-like movements and directions. The lack of movements and directions is the main reason for the game's lack of feeling and intensity -- The Trademark of the Old PES titles.

you get to do both therefore you are controlling the player rather than solely relying on his stats(which isn't always the case in pes to be fair). Scoring is a skill and that should be replicated, this isnt done in pes and is one of the reasons you can crack the game's difficulty after a couple of days. In fifa obviously the stats effect the shooting but i don't understand why you wouldn't want full control over a shot. In my opinion everything you do on the football field should be you're control, it takes more skill and this is what defines a simulation.

what the hell is arcade and simulation? it's all a simulation (a program emulating reality). both do it differently. I think fifa's graphics and 360 motion is giving it that "simulation" feel that you mention and pes 8-directional style the "arcade" type. THAT IS IT. the rest is AI and ball/body physics.

They are both trying to simulate real football but doing it differently and as a result some gamers like it, some don't. Heck I even read somewhere on the forums that some people prefer the D-pad gaming! so it's a choice.

And this whole shit about manual shooting and footballers instinct that requires depth and skill with a fuckin controller is just ridicules. you want depth try kicking a ball on a field. No matter how much fifa or pes improve or try to get to reality, it is still a game and we are still sitting on a coach with our "strikers' instinct".

it's just a game not a mission to explore Mars....arguments are retarded regrading the arcade/simulation crap.

AI, graphics, gameply etc are all valid points for improvement. and whoever is better in your opinion go ahead and buy it. it's always like that and it always will be like that.

If you're so worried about Konami's future in football games: they have acknowledged that they received feedback from this site + their sales figure should do the trick. if they still produce games you don't like. simply don't buy it and move on.

In fifa obviously the stats effect the shooting but i don't understand why you wouldn't want full control over a shot.

It's because I don't want to concentrate on all the processes you go through when passing or shooting etc. Pro footballers, as I said, act on instinct and they wouldn't have time to go through the processes in the middle of action, so in a video game you shouldn't be either. Now the AI is so bad that you have time to think through the processes, but in real football you wouldn't.

You have your point and I can't say you're wrong. At this point the question is about preferences.

If you're so worried about Konami's future in football games: they have acknowledged that they received feedback from this site + their sales figure should do the trick. if they still produce games you don't like. simply don't buy it and move on.

WTF dude? This is first of all a gaming forum, so we talk about playing games. Secondly this is a football game forum so we talk about how we think football should be implemented on video games. If it pisses you off, just get out of here.

If you want to know what I mean by arcade and simulation, read my post at the last page. Then you can apologize me.
