Any word on AI?

Any enhancements? Has the AI been made more aggressive in attacking?
How about the difficulty?

I am impressed with what we been shown thus far but what of core updates?

this is a concern for me. ive made the switch to FIFA since 09. I never really gave this PES a chance after demo but i picked it up cheap on PC and im not impressed. Its so slow to respond, passing and crossing is dodgy and worse of all the AI sucks. they just aimlessly pass it about in midefield and defense and i just have to close them down constantly. the only way to get them to progress up field is if i purposely dont defend properly so they have a bit of extra space to go forward and its omething i have to do alot. Not close down so that they move forward and into an attacking position where i can close down and hopefully win the ball. its risky but beats sitting there watching their defenders pass it about for 20mins of the game

You read my mind John. We a couple of videos and we're all aboard the hype train!

The majority probably prefer online these days but I am strictly an offline player and I need some competition. PES 5/6 still kicks my a*s on the hardest difficulties, for the last 3 years (and last year especially) I've had to deal with an AI that just ping pongs the ball around.

I have yet to hear anything official on whether or not this year's iteration will have revamped AI all I hear is some dribbling and passing gizmo.

if the ref didnt blow his whitsle every 5 seconds PES5 would be the game i still played! As for the new AI i dont think anybody other than the developers and playtesters know because the beta is purely online and the folks playing at gamescom always seem to be on versus. Still they should be able to give us some insight into how your own teams AI works. Like do they make intelligent runs, do they cover the defense properly ect.

I too prefer offline. I play football games to get immersed in a proper season and to play and score the best goals possible. this doesnt happen online, it tends to ping pong around then somebody gets lucky or does an awesome cut back tap in :/ I can safely say on both PES and FIFA an online opponent has never scored a good goal against me.

Precisely John. I have heard some positive AI feedback on FIFA but that's another story. I guess the demo will only tell as no one seems to know specific enhancements in this department.

I´v heard from the people who got the preview code in july that the AI is much harder to play against. If you take a look around at Pesfan.com you should find info on the preview code as well on winningelevenblog.com though I wouldn´t trust their views on the game as they told everyone that Pes2010 was Awesome, outstanding and superb :)

If the AI isn´t as good as in Pes 5 and 6 it would be a complete gamebreaker for me.

I'm glad we still have people who still care about offline (think we are a rare bunch).

I really hope they increased aggressiveness, I barely played PES 2010 because all the AI did was pass, pass, pass!

What ever happened to old school attacking? And don't even start on the difficulty levels. Will we have Top Player or whatever setting that's in W11 2010 and not PES 2010?

After googling my ass off! the only thing I found on the AI is this.
http://kitanamedia.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3190
It´s about 60 pages of questions and feedback from a guy who got the preview code to his home from a private jet from Japan. He also got a real size photo of Seabass.

Please have fun reading it but keep in mind that this guy is a Pes fanboy. Don´t take him too seriously ;)

I remember a bunch of previews mentioning that the AI definitely attacks properly now and they are generally smarter and more difficult. I also prefer offline for the same reasons you guys mentioned so hope this is true.

And LOL@HH nice one meng.

it might be nice for a football game to take the same route as EAs fight night 4. On that the settings are fully customisable. You can set the AIs defense rate, punch rate, energy conservation, guard awareness ect. Means if you want your game to be like a rocky movie where nobody blocks and they just take multiple shots to the head then you can. If you want it to be a tactical fight where your leading behind a jab looking for openings or counters you can. You set the cutting level too so if you want loadsa blood you can.

thinking a football game could have a slider for how much the AI attacks or defenders, or time wastes ect. Although im sure most people would put it so there was a nice balance and if the programers could get it right it wouldnt be neccessary. I would defo like one for time wasting tho, they seem to have implemented this into both PES and fifa. Pes just pass it between the back 4 and FIFA will dribble it to your byline and run in circles to waste time. Sure its realistic but its boring and annoying!

You played the NBA 2K series John? They have those exact same "sliders" you're talking about. You can customize the entire game according to your preference, sim, arcade or somewhere in between.

They did introduce those "Attack Cards" or whatnot last year in PES, but damn if I'd know what they bloody did!

I hope Knoami is aware of this problem as I didn't see it being mentioned in any of the previews/pods/blogs etc..

I am now thinking we're asking too much, you guys happy with just Bayern, the new kicking meeter and a touch up on the menus? Good then I think that's all we're getting!

i played the demo of the NBA 2k 09 i think it was, my brother walked in and had to look twice thinking i was watching basketball the graphics are that good.

i think the attack cards were just a gimmick. I set them at the start of my ML then never changed them. I mean if your losing you should probably put defenders with attacking cards on attack but whats the point when the AI just pings the ball around the back 4. Plus its constantly going into the start menu and interuppting the game.

teams and licenses are the least of our worries, PES has an overly dedicated fan base that will make kits and emblems within a week of release, which is nice of them, but if the game sucks then whats the point!

I am hoping PES has a return to form, i played fifa 10 and world cup for the duration of this year and have only recently given PES 2010 a second chance and its playing no better. I would like two football games to play this year so hopefully i will be able to. But if not i aint swearing a dieing allegiance to PES just coz its PES, i shall go to the best game again. 2K could probably make a great football sim!the more competition the better!

I am on the same boat as well. I am thinking FIFA this year is going to be more of FIFA10.5 whereas PES seemed to really make better progress, then I remembered all the small issues.

Help me out here, I am new to this whole community feedback thing but as consumers, are our opinions actually read? Every single forum I know has complained about the AI in last year's game, shouldn't Konami be addressing that first?

Sure, MLO is neat but why not assure the consumers that their previous problems have been rectified before adding new ones? Its like saying "Oh yah I know yesterday, your eggs were slightly overdone but guess what today I got you eggs and a new fork".

Damn, getting frustrated over a videogame..

I would like alot of intelligance in the new game. How good would it be when your driving a shot with ronaldo into the top left corner but then the keeper knows most of the shots have gone into the top corner, so he starts edging over to give himself a better chance, then whack straight into the other corner. I dont like the intelligance where they dive where you wanted it to go, but i do like if they dive based on where you are on the pitch and what footed you are. It would also be great to see defenders work like they do in real life (the good 1s) where they put you onto your weaker foot.

Also with last ditch tackles, where your about to shoot. Defender has 3 options, foul, push the ball out of play or block the shot. To pick the wrong 1 9 times out of 10 results in a penalty. You pick by moving the stick away from the player after you have pressed to slide tackle, this reults in a block. Then you move the stick nearer to the player, this results in a push, then the third option is to foul the player, with the defenders speed, strength, defence ability (positining, timing ect) height, stamina all come into play

This is why i didn't like playing 5 star. Because i would win, but its like, i signal to shoot in the top left corner, the keeper dives before he sees the direction of the shot and catches it. Thats not real in most cases. I believe increased star ratings should mostly be about how intelligant the opposition is and not about the computers ability to go into god mode more often.

In master league i would like it so that i don't turn into chelsea straight away. But that i have to work my way up. I want to get hammered alot and really have to earn promotion. Then if i get into the top division i want to feel lucky that i survived religation. Whilst slightly improving my 10- 20 000 stadium and buying has beens and bringing youngsters through. Then i want to work towards the middle of the table and go on a few cup runs. At this stage i dont want any amazing players available for me. I want to still use my team. Then i want to battle for a europha cup spot, mabie just falling short. Then i increase my stadium, 35 000. Then i want to get into the europha cup and do well. Then qualify for champions league. Get in some decent players, with the top teams still hogging the good players. Then i want to challenge for the title and increase my stadium to twice as much. Get a world class player or too. That would make me happy
