My God these 'best consoles' debates will never end. Commodore Vic20/Spectrum...Master System/NES...Megadrive/SNES etc etc. And now the debate is with Xbox360 and PS3! I agree with greenegg on his belief that games make a console. I've read from many technical sources that the Xbox360 actually creams the PS3 in most areas, but I will probably wait and buy the PS3 given Sony's huge popularity in the market. But maybe this dominance will be short lived because I think after a decade of Sony pissing all over its competitors it seems to have finally found a serious competitor in the Xbox360, and sooner or later the 360 might actually overtake them.

Not from what I've been hearing. The Wii is pissing all over the PS3 and the 360 at the moment.

People in the gaming industry are claiming that a new market is growing into the Wii. People who previously weren't into gaming are now making time for playing computer games. It could spell trouble for both Sony and Microsoft if you ask me.

But a price drop by Sony could change things dramatically.

That's right I've even seen them going for £335. I seriously think come Christmas it won't be too much more expensive the the Xbox360. I can't see how it can compete otherwise. I think they're both too pricey because in my mind anything over £200 for a games machine is rediculas.

Having owned a Playstation 2 and a PSP, I can safely say I will only get it if it's priced reasonably. The PS2 was mainly because of GTA 3 and Vice City ( and subsequently San Andreas, at the time there were no rumours of it coming out on the Xbox), and I bought God of War too which was great if not too easy.

Anyway I'm in greenegg's rubberboat, it's all about the games.

I also will only get one if it's a reasonable price. I suppose by Christmas if the price still isn't what I had in mind there'll be plenty of machines going round on ebay for even smaller prices. I reckon you'd be able to pick them up pretty cheapish second hand by then.

many people buy ps3 in bulk so they sell them cheaper on ebay. i seen alot of people do this, but i might buy one on play.com because of the console pack. i also agree with greenegg, the reason people buy expensive consoles is because of the games.

if you must know my student loan bought it... the only thing I have bought with it... Obviously pes was the main reason but also for fun and other games and to have a piece of awesome entertainment system for my family!

i have an xbox 360 and a ps3, an will probably get pes 2008 for both consoles, i used to be playstation fanyboy, but too be honest, the xbox 360 is very good

I think anyone who has a 360 and goes to a PS3 is a mug. Why go through that expense just to play the same games that will eventually be available on the 360 at some point anyway? To give the controller as a reason is laughable!
