I'm a big fan of the PES series and have bought every version since PS1 apart from xbox - so I'm not trying to be awkward!

Graphics / slowdown? My machine could play PES3 with full detail at a fairly high resolution, but has slowdown with PES4 - even on low detail / lowest resolution. Anything other than high detail seems to make the pitch flickery and the game still suffers from slowdown. Graphics do look great though. My best option seems to be windowed 800x600 full detail.

Control still seems limited in comparison to PS2 version eg only 8 directions (as in PES3 PC).

Can't specify left analog stick and dpad to same functions, so have to navigate game with stick...

Online play - haven't sussed it yet - any comments from anyone who is playing online? How well does it work?

Also, it seems to have introduced a strange bug to my machine whereby I click an icon in Windows and every other icon around it also gets selected.

Sounds like someone has a virus. And because you can't run the game on very good settings, there might be a bunch of spyware/viruses running in the background. I suggest you format your Hard Drive.

Online play is OK. It's only fun if there's barely any lag. You pretty much have to play someone who lives in the same state (if you live in the U.S.), in order to have a decent match. I live in Colorado, and played someone from Maryland, and the lag was horrible. It doesn't look like Konami put a lot of work into the net coding.

I plan on getting PES4 (PC) for the online play (means I don't have to buy an Xbox just to play one game). Is the online play direct IP connect only? Is or will there be lobbies for this game or will I be able to find hosts via software like All Seeing Eye?

Thanks

Norton reports no viruses, only spyware found by adaware are cookies...

I don't think formating your hard drive because you might have a virus or some spyware is really a good idea anyhow?

My CPU never runs at over 20% when playing. I think the issue is with my graphics card 9800SE which I know is not great, but as I said PES3 that gave a lot of people problems runs perfect. I wouldn't mind if the lower detail settings helped or made it more playable... Other system spec: P4 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM XPpro SP2. Graphics card drivers updated today - no change.

hoolak - online play is only by direct IP host/client. I've not managed to get it working despite opening specific firewall port and enabling port forwarding for it on my router. Hopefully as more people get round to trying someone will spot what I'm doing wrong.

I'd after agree about the slow down*. It's not that bad but it is noticeable. As for the graphics, Yes For me Pes 3 looked a lot better. Having seen all three versions running (xbox, ps2 etc) i would say that it's not a bad as the Xbox version.

*I'm running pes 4 in 1152x864 at high detail using a pentium 4 with 1gig of ram and a Ati 9800 pro

At first I found the game a bit weird, like shooting my shots either flew over or trickled along the flloor. But it very quickly grew on me and now I find the phsyics near perfect. Sort out your PC then play it more - you will like it soon guaranteed.

maybe slowdown is the wrong term - what I mean is a small 'stutter' in the graphics when receiving a pass or during a long ball.

I disagree, I'm in the Uk and been playing peeps all ve europe with NO LAG. It is dependant on what connection speed they have, most of the games I've played so far you would not know it was online....This game just plain rocks!!!!!

You can.

I'm using a PS2 converter and PS2 pad... all you need to do is go to configure your controls, enable analogue and then set the buttons up from scratch. You'll notice the D-Pad actually has different names once you've done this, and it'll work exactly like the PS2 controllers do on the PS2 :)
