Are the linesmen too strict on PES?

PES ADDICT 117

While playing the PES5 demo last night I wondered, are the linesmen too strict on the offside decisions. I found this on PES4 if u were just about level with the last defender it would call u offside, this really annoyed me and it is the the same in the PES5 demo. This can't be realistic as most linsemen couldn't see an offside if it hit them smack bang in the middle of the face. Does this annoy u aswell?

I know what you mean, you rarely get decisions when you are just about as level to the defensive line as you can possibly get. It's great when you time the run to perfection to be in the clear, but the effort's are hardly ever rewarded as you're judged offside 95% of the time. It's frustrating and something that could be improved upon by Konami to improve the realism.

Once in WE9 my borhter scored a goal that was given as offside, and usually we don't watch the replay because we assume the player is always offside, but on this occassion the player was at least 2-3 yards onside!!

The linesmen are still very bad in the full version of PES5 too.

It's making me wonder how offside works......
The furthest back defender has a line drawn across the pitch and if any part of the forward is past this point, he is offside. Even if only the tip of his foot is past the line and the whole of the rest of his body is onside of it. Weird. And with through balls not working as clinically as in previous games, we may have to change the way we play or be more aware of the positions of all players on that line.

hmmmmmm.

I've had the opposite happen and scored with Ronaldo for Real Madrid when he was clearly at least 5 yards offside. I struck it quickly with his left foot thinking he would be flagged back for offside, but the goal was awarded :eek:hmy:

I was playing the demo once and I skipped an offside decision but when I looked at it briefly I thought I saw two lines across the pitch, as if the offside decision had been wrong. Is this a new feature or was I just seeing things? I'm not trying to make stupid claims here but I swear that's what I saw .. :crymore:

Anyway I think the rule is there's supposed to be daylight between the attacker and last defender for him to be offside, in other words level is onside. Sort it out Konami. Not to mention the active/inactive players business... edit: ah yes, Zyg may be right I didn't realise they'd changed it now

Not to mention the active/inactive players business, sometimes I put someone clean through on goal only for someone walking back onside to be flagged, when he's not involved in the slightest - I guess that's harder to implement though ... next time eh

they have that on fifa now though, if your offside and say the ball doesnt get to you the ref plays on etc and i'm sure its has the active/inactive rule laid down pretty well 'n all.

the linesmen are made like dat so dat u use the manger in u, dat means go 2 formations and play around with the "indavisual" options it wrks my strikers are never offside, n by doin this u can also make it so dat ur defenders play the offside trap

Bit more detail or you just going to leave it vague like that. What settings do you recommend?

mutu- strange one there, usually the player has to touch the ball to be given offside. You can play a long ball over the top and the player could run from just over halfway line right to the touchline and it's fine until you touch the ball. I think one way around this is to super-cancel your way to wait for a defender to touch it first and then try to cheekily grab it off him straight away.

Yeah, sometimes they can be a bit strict, but usually and tragically, it's always right so I don't really complain.

However, a bit of 'randomness' in those hairline decisions would be cool, a bit of debate! I loved it in Pes 4 where you had the whole 'goal disallowed' stuff, but it was always blatent why, more debate, more arguments and more rematches, that'd be the next step for me!

offside is too damn complicated.. but thats part of soccer.. i really am in favour of a goal line technology where referees watch the replay close up and decide whether it was a goal or not.. its only fair

Same thing happened to me with Argentina on pes4 i think it was crespo who was about 8 yards offside and saviola was also offside about 3 yards and it hit saviola on the way to crespo, so they are both offside. Almost missed the chance to score it, first shot straight at the keeper then a lucky second shot to score, either its a glitch or its programmed so that argentina can cheat just like real life.

yeah i was going to say that zyg about the super cancel.if im off side and i no im offside then i super cancel it,the cpu then thinks your not active and the cpu gets the ball you then become active again.

i'm hoping in future PES games they'll be able to program it so that sometimes u can score an offside goal. like they do in real footie when we all complain it should have been called. would make it highly frustrating on times, yet realistic. same with the fouls, be nice if you could get away with one or two :D

Hey, I can see that there's over 200 replies to this question and i really don't have the time at the mo to read them all but i was just wandering if anybody has had the problem where one of their injured players sitting off the pitch keeps an attacker onside! This cost me a goal in a very big game (EVERY GAME IS A BIG GAME IN PES) Has this happened to anybody else?

PS. this game is so immense, i got it the day it came out and can still play it hours on end up until the next game comes out. I bet fifa players don't feel that way!

 They'll bring out cheat rankings for each team soon to go alongside the attack, defence, teamwork and speed ratings, so they can have Chelsea on 99, Arsenal 1 etc to make it even more realistic.
