I'm a big PES fan.... but I have to say that next gen PES (PES6 on 360 onwards) took a wrong move somewhere.

PES2009 feels and plays like a modified PES6 on 360 because thats what it is, unfortunatly this base was flawed to begin with.

I'd honestly rather play the PS2 versions of PES, as there far more fluid and enjoyable with better more varied gameplay.

PES2009 feels stiff and robotic almost mechanical, with bad player collision detection and physics...also dribbling in 90 degree angles to beat players is too easy and very unrealistic.

I still own PES 2009 and do play it and I don't own FIFA, but I know when a games gone downhill and PES has.

I have FIFA09 on my games rental list, when I do get to play it, it will be interesting to see how it measures up this time.

I'm not going to even mention online play as it's never been properly playable since it went online due to lag affecting gameplay so badly.

If you want to play PES how it should be played dig out the a PS2 or even PS1 and play the older versions.

Man knowledge is power so i would say go for it get as much fifa playing time as you can, i personally think fifa sucks but i have played it enough to know that, there is no use contesting something that you do not have a good insight into, i have no fear, i think if you play fifa i will just make you love pes more:)

I know that is why I wanted to rent it but it hasn't been at the places I have tried. I will keep trying to rent it if I can.

I've been playing PES/ Winning Eleven series since 2000 and have always enjoyed playing it. However, I think that since this series has made its move to the PS3 and 360 era, I don't think it has improve at all. I'm judging this from playing the demo.

Yes, I know that it isn't fair to do so, however from the games I've played in the demo, I wasn't impressed, gameplay wise. For me, I was feeling that I was playing PES on a PS2, but with a better graphics. So, after playing it for many years, I get bored technically playing the same PES, but with some bugs removed/ transfer updates. Some might say that 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' but that just me. I feel that they should have a new gameplay engine (if that's the right term) instead of using an updated gameplay engine for the PS3 and 360.

Then, the main reason why I switched to FIFA. The online game. I have a poor connection by today's standard, which is a maximum of 512 KBps. Before you say ' get a better connection ', it isn't simple. Fast connections aren't cheap. I even have to pay B$68 per month for it. My ISP only provide a maximum connection of 1 MBps, which is charged for B$200+ per month.

Even people that has a lot faster connections than me are experiencing lag in PES. I usually experience minimal lag on FIFA, and sometimes, when I play someone with a very good connection, none at all.

Also, in my opinion, FIFA has improved a lot this year. Granted that it has flaws such as the advantage rule, which wasn't really fixed even after the patch. I feel that FIFA doesn't use their license to their advantage. Some teams doesn't even have a proper GK kit, and some of the kits looks off, such as Chelsea's.

Despite all of this, I still enjoy playing it. For all I know, FIFA may have been using the same gameplay engine, but it offers me something different. I really like their control scheme, such as manual passing: where you have to point out your analogue stick, and control the power before making a pass.

Conclusion, it's FIFA for me.

FIFA has improved a lot, especially in it's latest incarnation. My main boggles with it are:
1) The pointlessly short be a pro (offline), 4 years is a pathetic attempt.
2) The shooting reminds me of Sensi Soccer. Far too much bend is possible even from the most inept player.
3) Too much bumph in between games.
4) Poor transfer system. Not being able to part ex a player is laughable.

In all, despite PES's flaws, it still keeps me engrossed. I tired of FIFA quite quickly.
