Bad Internet Connection Signal From Hardwired Ps3

I've got an N class wireless router showing me a constant green in online mode. I'm trying to play against my mate who's got his PS3 hardwired to his modem via ethernet cable yet he's coming across to him and me in orange and reds. I get a warning that I'm connecting to someone with a poor signal first too. Tonight we had massive lag and after persisting had 3 games auto cancelled. He did say as well that I came across to him as yellows and oranges at times.
Could it be port settings related? I recently allocated one on my router to the PS3 which seemed to solve a lot of problems? Or is it likely the dodgy servers? do they really get this bad?
Cheers
Jon :)

My cousin, plays with a wired connection. It's stronger than a wireless one. When the internet slows down a bit, the wireless goes down with a bad connection.
The ps3 signal isn't as strong when in wireless, so a small internet speed change and it'll effect.

Ah cheers,
we tried yesterday with them both hardwired. Even though I was seeing myself as green and my m8 as yellow, he was seeing me yellow and him green. Does that mean you never meet anyone online with a green signal or were we just unlucky with servers?
Cheers

TBH it is a bit random any way, I have played both green and got lag and also played against red and found there to be very little lag if any at all so it is hard to advise really.

Intermittant internet signal from hardwired PS3

Right I'm really fed up now. The last 6 times I've tried to play against my m8 online the game's been stopped as "the connection has worsened" Each night we try a few times on different lobbys and servers but with no difference.
We are both hard wired. I now know that when I see my own signal as green, he sees it as something else (red, amber or yellow). It is the same for him too.
I usually find the other player's signal guide a reasonable indication and when the game does stop it's always when my m8's on red.
Is it this bad for everyone else?
HELP please

Port settings on the router if you're hardwired. I had major problems with FIFA and had to forward ports 443, 9989, 12400, 30400-30499, 3658-3659, 6000, 9570, 9808-9811 and 9858-9861 to get that to work so expect to have to forward some ports for PES.

The quick way to test it is to (and I mean quick) put your router into DMZ mode (ALL ports forwarded) and see how it behaves. If its better, then you know it is definitley a port issue and take DMZ off (its a security risk). Take into account I was playing FIFA which is said to have better online servers too.

Thanks m8. I've allocated port settings on mine but I know my m8 hasn't. I'll get him to give it a go - cheers.
