What i do is when the opponent plays the ball over your defence, hold in R1 & R2 and direct your player to where the ball is heading then clear it, works well for me.

I like to put some curl on my passes over the top of defences by running in a direction 45 degrees from my target before releasing the ball. There's an element of disguise in this kinda pass and it's difficult to intercept coz there's a curl to it.

Try a lobbed thru ball

:triangle: and :R2: or :R1: - i can't remember at the mo, that puts a ball over the defence for a fast or strong striker to run onto end of it :)

He was asking how to defend a ball over the top not how to do one.

Play your defense deep and use tall defenders. They have more chance of heading it away. Playing deep means if they do get over the top you can charge your keeper out and take the ball before they can control it. Crowd the midfield out with a CM and a DM so they never have enough room to chip it over the top in the first place as well ;)

Good advice special and chiliwil, however he was asking for advice defending those plays.

All you have to do is make sure your cbt's stay back and in the zone of 18, then they will be able to defend easily.

I found I was susceptible to the ball over the top as well, Try putting a tall defender with good heading ability and make sure you have a defensive midfield player. I am now debating also making one of my CDT a sweeper as now I have gone to three at the back the extra players going forward leave my team more vunerable at the back.
