barging / close control

Hi,

2 simple questions.

First question: How do i avoid players barging me off the ball like i am playing some kind of rugby match.
The referee never blows for a foul against it ... so i think it is legal then :x

Second question: I still haven't found a way to keep close control of the ball ... is that really R2 button? (PS3 player). If i want to keep the ball when a defender is shoulder to shoulder with me they always just take the ball from my players like he is made of straw :(

Anyone would be of great help :D

my biggest online complaint (see any post of mine over the last 72hrs) . I don't think there is an answer but will be checking back to see. I end up tick-tack passing like I am playing pong so a defender never has the chance. Looks ridiculous and ends up with a turnover when the passes become random when I am just rushing to get it out before it gets stolen. Whats worse is that damn Konami animation when a player is stunned for 2 seconds after the ball gets taken away so you can't even respond in kind. Must be some kind of wizard spell. Closing speed of defenders too fast and can run a circle around you if you turn your back for ball protection.

I would love to watch a match between the top 2 players in the rankings to just see how bloody it is or if it is civilized, realistic football.

You have to press R2 and move the left stick away from the defender..sometimes just moving the left stick away from the defender will do the trick ..careful though I found very difficult to keep the ball when players are tired or on purple and blue arrows conceded some cheap goals trying to do that.

does the steering away only work with the Analog stick and not with the cross ?
as i am old skool and still play with the cross to move around.

I am not sure but I dont thinks it makes any difference whether you play with the cross or analog stick ;)

Another thing you should pay attention is the player stats..I have seen in different threads people saying that if your player have a good body balance is more likely that he will be able to protect the ball but I remember this post where the dude was claiming that he had Gerrard on red arrow and Valeny would just come and knock him out of the ball lol

I had a side midfielder call Barreto and he could keep possesion against almost any defender but when I checked his stats his body balance was only 68 lol his agility was 85 or something and his dribble speed and precision were also around 80..so I think that somehow compensate his lack of body balance..had to sell him to buy Berbatov but saving money to get him back lol

Usually I prefer to buy players with good body balance, but it doesnt work always in Konami world lol
Sorry for repeating of previous post, but in most of the cases player with body balance 67( and defensive level 65) has no problems to stop the player with body balance 90 and attacking level 88 lol
So,trying to find the the solution between good dribbling and body balance, couse good dribbling gives possibility for a some tricks/fints,etc.Also using a lot quick short passing between the players,it works well too.
But basically, this is a one of the most annoying moments for me in PES.Mean, the best player is only player with running speed 99 lol, this is why all of them costs so much in MLO.No tricks,no passing combination,no team play, only runs, runs, runs.
When I playing friendlies with m8s,usually we're choosing very small teams without any "running" players. So,only tactic, formation, realistic display and pass, pass, pass lol.Real pleasure, even if I'm losing the game)

Body Balance is good for two things. Challenging for headers and when you are tied up with a defender running for a through ball.

I couldn't tell you how many times I've had a 90+ body balance striker knock over opposition defenders on their way to picking up a pass, it's marvelous. However when the ball is at your feet body balance doesn't do crap.

Well, actually, the only time body balance is useful with ball at your feet is if you are standing still with the ball at your feet, and a defender comes up behind you. There are certain tricks to jink around or knock down the defender but I could never get it to work because most times you aren't given the time to pull it off.

My suggestion for keeping possession is to single tap R1/RB at just the right moment. I've had many opposing players slide right by me. Also sudden cuts work well. NEVER EVER under any circumstance try to outrun the opposition. It's always better to evade or pass. Btw lob through balls can rip some online players to shreds, especially if they press like crazy. I once did 3 lob throughs in a row while the opponent scrambled all over trying to catch up. Needless to say I scored and made him look stupid.

yea evading and passing (including the lob through balls) is the best strategy. also if u havent used the right analog stick, i would give it a try. especially if the opponent is isolated 1on1 and he is just pressing x to pressure, a simple flick of the right stick will do the trick, then u press r1 and r2 together to completely loose him.
