BASIC PATCHING GUIDE FOR WE9

First of all you need to use your original WE9 DVD to make an image onto your PC and then patch it. And you need a DVD-burner with blank DVDRs.

1. Downloads.
You will need to use these programs

a)DVD Dycrypter,
http://fileforum.betanews.com/download/1011845169/1
http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_decrypter.cfm

(zip version: http://rapidshare.de/files/3902028/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.zip.html )

b)ppf-o-matic3 (also known as pdx-pom3)
http://www.paradogs.com/download/pdx-pom3.zip

c) CD/DVD burning software such as Nero or Alcohol120%.

d) Plus the WE9 patch you want to use - (Fernando V4 translation patch is here).

Most patches come compressed as rar files so you need to check this thread to find out how to unrar (uncompress) these to give you the actual patch files which are .ppf files.

2.
Create an ISO from your original WE9 dvd game using dvd decrypter or other ripping program.

a) Put your Original WE9 dvd in your PC dvd drive
b) Open DVD Decrypter, go to MODE /ISO / Read
c) Choose your destination folder eg origWE9
d) Press the go button (dvd->Harddrive symbol)

(pic thanks to jag87)

This gives you your original ISO.

3.
Open ppf-o-matic3.

Select your ISO file from above (by clicking on the small disk pic and locating the file in its folder).
Select your .ppf patch file (again by clicking on the disk image)

Click Apply. Wait for the ISO to be patched.
If you also have patch update files, you can now apply them to your ISO as well using the same method. Select the same ISO and the next patch and click Apply.

Read the instructions that come with each patch to see if there are any other methods or techniques you need to use when patching. This is the most common and basic method usually used.

4.
Now you are ready to burn your patched ISO image.

I tend to defragment my hard disk at this point. Then you should shut down all other programs (or better yet, reset your PC).

You can burn the image using DVD-dycrypter, Nero or Alcohol120%.
Open your burning program and select the Burn As Image or Burn Image option. Select your patched ISO file. Insert a blank DVD-R and set the speed to be as slow as possible as this is better for the life of your PS2 laser. If you use cheap DVDR types and/or fast burning speed, this is not good for the life of your PS2 laser. Set it to burn and leave it for a while. It will take time so be patient and don't mess with your PC otherwise there is a chance that the patched disk won't run.

Once it has burned you can now play your patched version of WE9 on your modified PS2 (using either a chip or a fliptop lid or a slide card - more details on this over here.

Remember that your image can usually only be patched once. The only time this is not true is when a patchmaker releases an update or a fix for his patch, and in these cases you can simply apply the update/fix after the main patch. But if you want to use a completely different patch then you will need to delete your game image and rip a new one from your original disk - basically you have to start the patching process again. If you have any problems with patching, make sure you start the process from the start as it is common for people to patch their image with several different patches and then wonder why it doesn't work.

This is a basic and simple guide to patch WE9. If you have a dvd-burner and a modded PS2 then you should have very few problems.

You can rip the patched dvd image to cd using the we9 cd ripkit method which is posted in this thread.

Another guide to patching is shown here:

I need a guide for option file patching !

There is no such thing.

You can download an option file and insert it onto your memory card via a Max Drive. Option files will have corrected player names, kits, transfers etc but no detailed ones have been created yet as the game was only released yesterday.

there is no 90% translation patch...why hide it from us?
Some of you people need to be spoon-fed dontcha?

It's in the PS2 section of File Downloads. Using the SEARCH button is always a good way to help find stuff.

ps, as i understand it, me having only a ps2, a joystick, and a yucky '94 smallest model pal/ntsc tv set =) have to use this CD2mem method - http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/cd2mem to get the option file thingie on my memory card, right ?

Can I patch with a normal PS2? instead of a chipped PS2?

You patch your games on the PC. No you have to have a modded PS2, or use the swap-magic thingy. Do not ask what the swap magic thing is, look for yourself.

i think to use the cd2mem you ought to have a chiped ps2,
hmm,
please check me one more final time -
step1 the menus
first i patch my dvd image with the Fernando_WE9_English_v1.ppf using the ppf-o-matic ( this here part makes my game menus bloody English)

step 1 the names
then i burn this here thingie foss-WE9-optionfile-0[1].50-BINCUE.zip (the bin cues contained of course) on a cd, and follow step number 7 from this here - http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/cd2mem
(this step makes player and team names bloody English, and now i have a bloody English game with jap commentary =)
as i understand the BINCUE version is a redy to burn on the cd and you don't need to do any steps from the cd2mem stepz, right ?

to do all these i need
software:
imagemakinf to get a dvdrip of my dvd,
ppf o matic to apply the patch to the image
some burning prog to burn the new image on dvd, and to butn the bin/cue of the option file on a CDR
hardware:
pc with dvd and cd writing roms, dvd blank and original, cdr
and a chipped ps2

am i right ?

What is the WE9 ISO file size supposed to be? I got my copy today and I'm not sure if I did the decryption right. I patched it, re-burned it, and it only loads up to just after the addidas logo then goes blank :\

Errr nevermind, it was the disk. Thanks for the info Zyg.
